Opis:: The waste management system in health care is a tool that allows to conduct reasonable steps to reduce their amount, collection, storage and transport, and provide a high level of utilization or disposal. Logistics solutions in waste management are intended to make full use of the infrastructure and technical resources, optimize costs, ensure the safety and health at work and meet legal requirements. The article discusses the elements of the logistics system of waste management in hospital, necessary to ensure the smooth flow of waste from its origin to landfilling. The following criteria were characterized: technical and technological, ecological and economic that can be used in the analysis and evaluation of solutions in waste management in the hospital. Finally, solutions to improve waste management system in the hospital on the example of the real object have been presented.

Opis:: Modern healthcare facilities generate more and more waste, and their management isa significant constitutes a significant cost of their functioning. The undertakings aimed at lowering the costs of expenses in waste management may have a positive influence on budgetary accounts in the institutions rendering health care services. On the example of a hospital in Lublin the costs of waste management and the possibilities to lower these costs by intensifying segregation procedures were presented. Opis:: Artykuł jest kolejnym z serii artykułów poświęconych gospodarce odpadami autorstwa A. Wieczorek i M. Siekierskiego. Przyczynkiem do jego napisania stała się pandemia COVID-19. Autorzy zwracają uwagę na jedną z jej licznych negatywnych konsekwencji, o której jak do tej pory się nie mówi - zwiększenie ilość odpadów, w tym odpadów medycznych, w stosunku do stanu z 2019 r. Celem artykułu jest: - przekazanie podstawowych informacji o odpadach medycznych; - zasugerowanie zmian prawa, które usprawniłyby gospodarowanie tymi odpadami, w szczególności zwiększyły możliwości odzysku energii; - apel, aby produkty lecznicze i wyroby medyczne generowały jak najmniejszą ilość odpadów. Im mniej odpadów tym lepiej dla środowiska, a tym samym zdrowia ludzi. Zmniejszanie ilości odpadów medycznych to wyzwanie dla szeroko rozumianego świata medycznego, przede wszystkim dla twórców i producentów produktów leczniczych. W pracach nad tymi produktami z oczywistych względów liczy się przede wszystkim to, czy są skuteczne w leczeniu danej choroby lub jej zapobieganiu. Autorzy niniejszego artykułu nie mają zamiaru tego negować. Uważają jednak, że wskazane byłoby branie pod uwagę również ilości i rodzaju odpadów, które dany produkt leczniczy generuje. Nie jest zamiarem autorów lobbowanie za jakąkolwiek metodą przetwarzania odpadów. Słowa kluczowe: odpady medyczne, produkty lecznicze, odpady, gospodarka odpadami, termiczne przekształcanie odpadów, pandemia COVID-19
This paper by A. Wieczorek and M. Siekierski is another in a series of articles on waste management. The COVID-19 pandemic became the reason for writing it. The authors point out one of its numerous negative consequences that has so far gone unmentioned – an increase in the amount of waste, including medical waste, relative to the status quo in 2019. The aim of the article is: to provide basic information on medical waste; suggesting changes to the law to improve the management of this waste, in particular, to increase the possibilities of energy recovery; to call for medicinal products and medical devices to generate as little waste as possible. The less waste the better for the environment, and thus for human health. Reducing medical waste is a challenge for the broadly understood medical world, mainly for developers and manufacturers of medicinal products. The work on these products is, for obvious reasons, primarily concerned with whether they are effective in treating or preventing a disease. The authors of this article have no intention of denying this. However, they believe that it would be advisable to also take into account the amount and type of waste generated by a given medicinal product. It is not the authors' intention to lobby for any waste treatment method.

Opis:: Omówiono dwa warianty działań, spełniające obowiązujące wymagania prawne, możliwe do zastosowania w gospodarce odpadami medycznymi. Na przykładzie szpitali z Lublina, zobrazowano problem wydatków ponoszonych przez wytwórców odpadów medycznych na prowadzenie działalności w zakresie gospodarki odpadami. Przedstawiono analizę kosztów unieszkodliwiania odpadów medycznych przy zastosowaniu metody autoklawowania. Odpady, które otrzymano po ich unieszkodliwianiu metodami alternatywnymi nie spełniają kryterium dopuszczenia ich do składowania na składowiskach odpadów. Fakt ten ogranicza stosowanie w praktyce metod alternatywnych.
Discussed two options for action that meet the applicable legal requirements, available for use in medical waste management. For example hospitals in Lublin, illustrated the problem of expenses incurred by the medical waste generators to operate in the field of waste management. Presents an analysis of the cost of disposing of medical waste, using the method of autoclaving. Wastes that were received after their disposal alternatives do not meet the criterion for admitting them into storage in landfills. This limits the practical application of alternative methods.
