Maturity models are a kind of compendium of knowledge from a given field and a guide for managers translating knowledge into concrete actions which aim is to change and improve an organization. They describe the evolutionary development path which enables an organization to move from the state of inconsistent, short-term business actions to the arranged, monitored and managed ones. The article presents and compares two procedures of maturity models designing and design principles, that is criteria which a maturity model should correspond to as a result of designing, helping potential users in comparing and assessing of existing models. The aim of the article is the assessment of EFQM excellence model as to meeting the criteria of usefulness and application included in design priniples. EFQM excellence model is an example of a well designed prescriptive model which sufficiently covers the most important usefulness criteria.

There is some ambivalence with regard to how to improve strategic management of organizations. On the one hand, the example of big companies emphasizes the need for formalization and good organization of strategic management process. On the other hand, the example of small companies draws attention to such qualities as entrepreneurship, flexibility and adaptability. The concept of strategic management maturity embraces both of these priorities. In this paper, a framework for strategic management maturity has been designed. Strategic management maturity was defined as a resultant of: strategic management process maturity and leadership maturity. Theoretical framework was tested on a sample of 150 Polish enterprises.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to present the relationship between the level of a manager’s maturity and their effectiveness in performing their role. Design/methodology/approach: This article is an overview that presents a new perspective in the perception and assessment of managers’ effectiveness, namely managers’ personality maturity. Findings: The conducted considerations show that the maturity of a manager’s personality determines the maturity level of their personal behaviour, which creates space for effective managerial activities. Research limitations/implications: It is recommended to continue empirical investigations using strong diagnostic tools, including personality diagnostics in a large research group of managers. Practical implications: The relationship presented in this article between the level of managers’ maturity and their ability to perform effective managerial behaviours at the organizational level creates a research area for determining the relationship between personality predispositions and their usefulness in the effective achievement of the tasks entrusted to managers. As a result, it is possible to shape the desired self-development conditions that are conducive to building and strengthening a mature personality. Social implications: If introduced as a permanent category in assessing managers’ effectiveness, personality maturity, understood as the ability to assume responsibility for one’s personal self-development, can significantly incentivise organizations to create space for managers’ psychological responsibility for the development of themselves and their employees. Originality/value: A close relationship has been identified between personality traits and their development and managers’ efficiency and effectiveness in achieving assumed goals. It is shown that a manager’s mature personality increases their chances of fulfilling expectations regarding the ever-increasing and more complex demands of their role.

W artykule podjęta została refl eksja nad charakterem działań edukacyjno-wychowawczych, wspierających osobę w osiąganiu dojrzałości. Za takie działania uważamy przede wszystkim wszystko to, co wyzwala i rozwija w osobie zdolność życia w harmonii z sobą, z otoczeniem oraz z Transcendencją. Zainspirowany myślą W. Brezinki, stoję na stanowisku, że w moralności człowieka, która ma wspierać i prowadzić go do dojrzałości, ważną rolę spełnia religia. Uzasadnieniem tego twierdzenia jest przede wszystkim to, że odwołujące się do niej ludzkie myślenie i wartościowanie zyskuje trwały i niezmienny punkt odniesienia dla podejmowanych działań. Takiemu nastawieniu człowieka służy sfera duchowa człowieka. Za jej pośrednictwem odsłania on swoje przekonania i postawy wania, promując określoną wizję życia, refl eksyjny stosunek do codzienności, wypełnione szacunkiem nastawienie do świata i nadzieję na życie w szczęściu (nieśmiertelność), które ofiaruje człowiekowi Bóg. Na podstawie prowadzonej refleksji uważam, że moralność stanowi wspólny mianownik wszystkich wymiarów ludzkiego życia. Z tych powodów jest niepodważalnym i istotnym elementem osiągania dojrzałości, łączonej z osiąganiem wewnętrznej harmonii, która ułatwia osobie życie w społeczności. Okazuje się, że proces ten jest wynikiem wielu działań, w których ważną funkcję może też spełniać religia. Spostrzeżenie to domaga się jeszcze wyjaśnień, w jakiej mierze można kształtować nabywane przez osobę życiowe kompetencje do osiągania dojrzałości. Jej nabywanie wpisane jest w proces gromadzenia doświadczeń oraz odkrywania i przyjmowania za własne określonych wartości. Wsparcia takiego udziela osobie także religia. Szczególnie ważną rolę ma do spełnienia poznanie religijne, które ukazuje rzeczywistość ludzkiego życia w nowym – transcendentnym aspekcie. Jego wartość polega na tym, że wspiera ono rozwój umiejętności dokonywania ocen moralnych. Ten styl działania możliwy jest jednak tylko wówczas, gdy człowiek odwołuje się do wiary religijnej. Wiara wspiera człowieka w przyjmowaniu wartości absolutnych. Rozumienie znaczenia religii w rozwoju osoby i osiągania przez nią dojrzałości domaga się konkretnych działań, podejmowanych na płaszczyźnie wychowawczo-duszpasterskiej.
The article has been taken to reflect on the nature of educational and education activities, which provide support to a person in achieving maturity. For such action, we believe, above all, everything that triggers and develops in a person’s ability to live in harmony with each other, with the environment and the Transcendence. Inspired by W. Brezinka we think we are of the opinion that human morality, which is to support and lead it to maturity, an important role is played by religion. The rationale for this claim is primarily that refer to the human thinking and valuation gains a permanent and unchanging point of reference for action. Such attitude of man is spiritual sphere of man. Through it he reveals his beliefs and attitudes and accepted values. Thus it draws to man the way his conduct promoting a specific vision of life, a reflective attitude to everyday life, filled with respectful attitude to the world and hope for a life of happiness (immortality), which offers to man by God. On the basis of its reflection, we believe that morality is the common denominator of all dimensions of human life. For these reasons it is an undeniable and important element for the achievement of maturity combined with achieving inner harmony, which helps a person living in the community. It turns out that this process is the result of many activities in which an important function can also meet the religion. This observation requires more explanation to what extent can shape purchased by a person living competencies to achieve maturity. Its acquisition is inscribed in the process of gathering experience and discovery and acceptance for their own specific values. Grants to support such a person is a religion. A particularly important role to fulfill religious knowledge, which reveals the reality of human life in a new – the transcendent aspect. Its value lies in the fact that it supports the development of the ability to make moral judgments. This style of action is possible but only if the person appeals to religious faith. Faith promotes man in the adoption of absolute values. Understanding the importance of religion in the development of persons and reaching its maturity demands concrete actions at the level of educational and pastoral.

Purpose: The fundamental objective of this article is to discern whether business model maturity is perceived through the prism of the ability to deal with unexpected challenges, overcome unprecedented threats, and use emerging business opportunities (agility) or – perhaps – more as a feature of the organization, which makes a business model less vulnerable to unpredictable external changes or sets it in a better position to make it respond effectively to these changes (flexibility). Methodology: The reconnaissance of opinions requires the creation of a catalog of desiderata that significantly identify agility and flexibility. Theoretical and design layers will use a method of reconstruction and interpretation of the subject literature supported by a discussion within a group of deliberately selected experts. This will be reflected in a set of parameters, on the one hand, characteristic of the categories of agility and flexibility and, on the other hand, reflecting business model maturity. Findings: The conducted research allows us to state that mature business models – as implemented by the surveyed companies – are perceived rather through the prism of the strategic ability of enterprises to quickly adapt to unforeseen and sudden changes on the market (agility category). Originality: The article includes not only academic postulates of agility or flexibility but also practical tips that enable constructing guidelines for decision-makers and managers of the agricultural machinery sector. The study carries a charge of a theoretical and empirical study. It takes into account knowledge and expert experience.

Background: The issue of managing sustainability in supply chain seems to be more and more complex. There are many aspects that need to be taken into consideration when planning, implementing and monitoring environmental and social conditions of supply chains. Despite many works, already published, on the concept of sustainable development (SD) is seems that the issue of assessment and especially the issue of maturity in the light of the SD concept is still not developed enough. Methods: The general aim of the paper is the analysis of the maturity issue in the context of sustainability. The main objective is to conceptualize the idea of maturity in sustainable supply chain. Beside the literature research the own proposition of theoretical model was described. Results: The article describes the issue of maturity as an element of managing sustainable development in the supply chain. The author presented a theoretical model of the maturity. Moreover the author gave some recommendations how to manage the sustainability issues in supply chain in more mature approach and introduced some useful tools among which are: certification, code of conduct and code of ethics, audits, projects etc. Conclusions: The issue of maturity seems to be very useful for proper understanding the idea of sustainable development in supply chain. The developed model can be used as self-assessment method to check at which level of implementation the idea of SD is analyzed in supply chain. Furthermore, the next phase of the planned research in form of practical verification of the model was advised as well as a research of identification of new factors and tools in analyzed area.
Wstęp: Problematyka zarządzania zrównoważonym rozwojem w łańcuchu dostaw wydaje się być coraz bardziej złożona. Istnieje wiele aspektów, które muszą być brane pod uwagę przy planowaniu, realizacji i monitorowaniu warunków środowiskowych i społecznych w łańcuchach dostaw. Mimo dużego dorobku naukowego dotykającego problematyki zrównoważonego rozwoju (ZR) w łańcuchu dostaw kwestia oceny, a zwłaszcza poziomu dojrzałości nie jest jeszcze wystarczająco rozwinięta. Metody: Głównym celem artykułu jest analiza kwestii dojrzałości w kontekście zrównoważonego rozwoju. Obok przeglądu literatury autorka prezentuje własną propozycję modelu teoretycznego. Wyniki: W artykule nakreślono istotę dojrzałości w kontekście zarządzania zrównoważonym łańcuchem dostaw. Autorka przedstawiła teoretyczny model dojrzałości. Dodatkowym elementem są rekomendacje uzupełnione o narzędzia, które można wykorzystać w praktyce jak np.: system certyfikacji, kodeksy postępowania, kodeksy etyczne, audyty czy projekty. Wnioski: Włączenie kwestii dojrzałości do problematyki zarządzania zrównoważonym łańcuchem dostaw wydaje się bardzo potrzebne. Dzięki niej organizacjom łatwiej jest rozumieć istotę zrównoważonego rozwoju. Zaproponowany model użyty jako metoda samooceny dodatkowo pozwala sprawdzić, na jakim poziomie wdrożenia jest obecnie analizowany przez organizację łańcuchu dostaw. W kolejnej fazie planowanych badań zweryfikowany zostanie model teoretyczny. Dodatkowym kierunkiem badań opisywanej problematyki jest identyfikacja kluczowych czynników sukcesu i ich weryfikacja na podstawie badań empirycznych.

The maturity of people preparing for marriage is an essential condition for the validity of the sacrament. Described in the article maturity is understood to be multifaceted, ranging from legal maturity, social, emotional and mental, to religious maturity that interests us most. Taking into account statistical surveys concerning religious identity of people between 18 and 40, the text provides pastoral guidance on the necessary formation of those who begin immediate preparation to get married in the Catholic Church.

Zaistnienie harmonii we współżyciu ludzi uważamy za jedno z podstawowych zadań wychowania. Ciągle aktualne jest przy tym pytanie o to, co należy czynić, by ona istniała. Osiąganie takiej umiejętności nazywamy moralnością, która jest przedmiotem oddziaływań wychowawczych. Jej istotę upatrujemy w nabywaniu zdolności rozróżniania i wybierania wartości oraz respektowania ich w codziennym życiu. W takim przypadku mówimy o moralności przyrównywanej do wewnętrznego kompasu, który wskazuje człowiekowi drogę postępowania i nakłania do kroczenia nią. Na wybór określonego sposobu postępowania osoby znaczący wpływ wywierają przyjmowane koncepcje antropologiczne objaśniające naturę człowieka. W artykule przyjmujemy, że człowiek jako istota cielesno-duchowa potrzebuje wsparcia do swego rozwoju fizycznego i duchowego. W tym ostatnim wymiarze dużym wsparciem jest rozwijana przez procesy wychowania duchowość. To za jej pośrednictwem człowiek nadaje swemu życiu określony styl i formę. Innym istotnym wsparciem w rozwoju moralnym człowieka jest wiara religijna. Wspiera ona rozwój wyższych potrzeb człowieka, jakimi są potrzeby duchowe. Ich zaspokajanie kształtuje w osobie zapotrzebowanie na wartości niematerialne, a to z kolei sprzyja nabywaniu umiejętności krytycznego myślenia o sobie w świetle treści i zasad życia religijnego oraz podejmowania wysiłków do tworzenia warunków harmonijnego życia społecznego.
We consider introducing harmony among individuals to be one of the main tasks of education. How to attain it is still the question. Achieving such a skill, called morality, is the object of educational activities. Its essence is seen in acquiring the capability to discern and choose values and respect them in one’s daily life. In this sense morality can be compared to the internal compass which points to the man the way of conduct and urges to follow it. The choice of specific practices is influenced by accepted anthropological concepts explaining human nature. This paper argues that man as a corporeal-spiritual being needs support for his physical and spiritual development. In the latter dimension his development is greatly assisted by the education-enhanced spirituality. It is through spirituality that man gives his life a certain style and form. Another important support in the moral development of man is religious faith. It supports the development of higher human needs, such as spiritual needs. Satisfying these needs creates the person’s demand for immaterial values, and this in turn fosters her ability of critical self-reflection in the light of the contents and principles of religious life, and of striving to create conditions for a harmonious social life.

The article is focused on the relation between Stanisław Brzozowski and Cyprian Norwid, one that is important for comprehending Polish culture and literature. Brzozowski could not meet Norwid in person, and his fascination was exclusively the fascination of a reader, but the deliberations presented here are not limited to the perspective of reception or to research on the influence. I am trying to describe the connection between the two authors as an encounter, because many of their intuitions – concerning the social world, the role of an individual in history, the coexistence of life and literature – coincided. A dynamic model of encounter allows pointing to the personalistic-dialogical way Brzozowski treated Norwid's work. I have decided to make “maturity” the key word of this article, and this is for two reasons. Firstly, Brzozowski provided one of his most significant books, Idee (Ideas), designed to be an introduction to “philosophy of historical maturity”, with an epigraph taken from Norwid's Garstka piasku (A Handful of Sand). The epigraph does not have a decorative function, but it foretells and programs reflection. Secondly, both the authors ponder over what maturity should be in the historical, anthropological and philosophical planes. In the light of the issue of maturity the community of thought between Norwid and Brzozowski appears not only as a community of common answers, but – first of all – as a community of basic and fundamental questions.

Celem artykułu jest praktyczna aplikacja koncepcji oceny dojrzałości modeli biznesowych na podstawie postrzeganego przez przedsiębiorcę stopnia rozwoju poszczególnych elementów modelu wpływających na tworzenie wartości dla klienta i zapewniających czerpanie korzyści z tej wartości. Do zidentyfikowania determinant dojrzałości modelu biznesowego wykorzystano wyniki badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego za pośrednictwem DELab UW na grupie respondentów, obejmujących start-upy oraz starsze przedsiębiorstwa (scale-up). W artykule zdiagnozowano wpływ wieku (fazy cyklu życia) firmy, sposobu komercjalizacji, dostępności źródeł finansowania oraz elementów kapitału intelektualnego na dojrzałość modelu biznesowego badanych przedsiębiorstw. W strukturze grupy również udział przedsiębiorstw wykorzystujących w działalności wyniki prac badawczo-rozwojowych (zarówno spośród start-up, jak i scale-up) wynosi 50%, co pozwoliło zbadać wpływ sposobu komercjalizacji i elementów kapitału intelektualnego na dojrzałość modeli biznesowych badanych podmiotów.
The goal of this article is the practical application of the concept of assessment of the maturity of a business model on the basis of the degree of development of the individual model elements that have an impact on creating value for the customer and guaranteeing benefits from that value as perceived by the entrepreneur. The results of a questionnaire-based survey as conducted through DELab of the University of Warsaw1 on a group of respondents encompassing start-ups as well as older companies (scale-ups) are presented in order to identify the determinants of the maturity of the business model. The article diagnoses the influence of age (phase in the lifecycle) of the company, its method of commercialization, accessibility of sources of financing, and elements of intellectual capital on the maturity of the business model of the investigated companies. The group structure included companies utilizing the results of research and development efforts in their operations (both start-ups and scale-ups). They accounted for 50%, which made it possible to examine the impact of method of commercialization and intellectual capital elements on the maturity of the business models of the surveyed entities.

Opis:
Due to major fluctuations in the labour market, the issue of motivation is again becoming one of the fundamental subjects of modern management and quality sciences. It seems that the complexity of the problems – apart from limited scientific recognition so far – justify treatment of the mentioned matters as the subject matter of research. Thus, the main goal of this paper is to assess the level of maturity of manufacturing enterprises in the area of effective implementation of non-wage systems to motivate executive employees. With reference to the objective outlined in this way, it was recommended as a necessary action; on the theoretical level – to apply the method of reconstruction and interpretation of Polish and foreign literature related to this subject – to nominate questions assessing the level of maturity of non-wage incentive systems; on a project level – to compile a research tool in the form of an evaluation sheet constituting the resultant literature exploration and research among intentionally selected respondents (executive employees); on an empirical level – to conduct investigation among manufacturers of the agricultural machinery sector (expert assessment).

The theme of old age is presented only occasionally by Latin authors who wrote their works in Gallia in the 5th and 6th centuries after Christ. The term „old man” is first and foremost a man of advanced age. Nowhere, however, a limit of old age is defined. Usually one can find a reference to a man still vital, though bearing the hallmarks of loss of strength and fitness. Old age is sometimes linked up with infirmity. Nowhere, however, one talks about any special care that these old people or the old with symptoms of old age need. In a positive sense old age means a person who has experience and authority. People of the Church who enjoy respect are often described in this way. Reaching old age understood in this sense was seen as an expression of God`s blessing.

Since many researchers and managers think about the essence, creation mechanisms and limits of the manufacturing model maturity, at this point, the author raises the question related to this issue: what dimensions (descriptions and desiderata) should be considered when conceptualizing this idea? The formulated question became a starting point and a point of conducting a creative synthesis, based, on the one hand, on a detailed analysis of the problem theory, and on the other hand – on the author’s own research. The above question and belief related to the existence of economic demand for results of application nature were the main inspiration to undertake research whose main purpose is to recognize: how the maturity of the business model is understood by selected experts operating in the Polish agricultural machinery sector?
Jako że wielu badaczy i zarządzających zastanawia się nad istotą, mechanizmami kreowania i granicami dojrzałości modelu biznesu, w tym miejscu autor stawia – związane z tym zagadnieniem – pytanie: jakie wymiary (deskrypty i dezyderaty) należy uwzględnić dokonując konceptualizacji tego pojęcia? Sformułowane pytanie stało się punktem wyjścia i przeprowadzenia twórczej syntezy opartej z jednej strony na szczegółowej analizie teorii problemu, a z drugiej na badaniach własnych autora. Powyższe pytanie oraz przekonanie o występowaniu gospodarczego zapotrzebowania na wyniki o charakterze aplikacyjnym stanowiły główną inspirację do podjęcia badań, których zasadniczym celem jest rozpoznanie jak dojrzałość modelu biznesu rozumieją wybrani eksperci działający w polskim sektorze maszyn rolniczych?

Niniejszy artykuł zawiera się w nurcie psychologii egzystencjalnej, która każdego człowieka traktuje indywidualnie, jako kogoś wyjątkowego. Można wyróżnić wiele aspektów cierpienia. Ten artykuł odnosi się do badań osób (mężczyzn) konsekrowanych, co jest szczególnie istotne, gdyż w aspekcie psychologiczno-pedagogicznym starano się ukazać, że Bóg jest większy niż cierpienie i większy niż stereotypy, a do życia konsekrowanego, jako Księża diecezjalni czy zakonnicy, są predysponowani ludzie, którzy mają powołanie, bez względu na swoje pochodzenie i wychowanie. Z badań tych wynika, że cierpienie w połączeniu z odniesieniem do wartości religijnych i miłością przyjacielską oraz miłością do Boga wpływa pozytywnie na dojrzałość osoby. Cierpienie uszlachetnia przez miłość, a związek cierpienia z dojrzałością zależy od przyjętego rozumienia dojrzałości, ponieważ cierpienie prowadzi do dojrzałości charakteru lub/i dojrzałości emocjonalnej lub/i dojrzałości osobowości. Poprzez badania empiryczne ukazano doskonalący wpływ cierpienia psychicznego. Ukazano empirycznie, że osoby konsekrowane, które przeżyły wiele cierpień, potrafią być bardzo dojrzałymi ludźmi, rozumieją siebie i innych, są wrażliwe, wybierają wartości zgodne z nauką Kościoła, mają dojrzałą perspektywę wpływu cierpienia na własne życie i głębszą samoświadomość. W wyniku analizy przeprowadzonych badań okazało się, że to, co sprawia, że osoby, które wiele cierpiały, są bardziej dojrzałe od niecierpiących, to skupienie się na Bogu oraz spotkanie w życiu wzoru w przyjacielu. Ten empiryczny fakt doskonale potwierdza związek, że cierpienie, w połączeniu z pozytywną postawą wobec Boga oraz z posiadaniem przyjaciela, uszlachetnia i prowadzi do dojrzałości. Badanie osoby, które cierpiały, pokazały, że cierpienie (połączone z wiarą) powoduje dojrzałość charakteru. Tylko badani cierpiący mają wysoko dojrzały charakter, a o dojrzałości każdej osoby ostatecznie decyduje wiara, zdolność do przebaczania i przyjaźni. Dojrzałość charakteru występuje u tych najbardziej cierpiących, ale równocześnie nie zawsze występuje u nich dojrzałość osobowości i emocjonalna. Artykuł kończy dyskusja, zawierająca pedagogiczne przesłanie, poszerzające wnioski z przeprowadzonych badań o aspekty wychowawcze.
This article is written consistent with a stream of existential psychology that every person treats individually, each as someone special. You can highlight many aspects of suffering. This article refers to the study of people (men) consecrated, which is particularly important, because in terms of psycho-pedagogical approach it is attempted to show that God is greater than the suffering, and bigger than stereotypes, and that to the consecrated life as diocesan priests or monks are predisposed people who have a vocation, regardless of their background and upbringing. The research shows that suffering in combination with a reference to religious values and the friendly love and love of God has a positive effect on the maturity of the person. Suffering ennobles through love and relationship of the suffering to the maturity depends on the accepted understanding of maturity, because suffering leads to maturity of character and/or emotional maturity and/or maturity of personality. Through empirical studies it was revealed the perfecting impact of psychological distress. It was shown empirically that the consecrated persons who have survived much suffering can be very mature people, understanding themselves and others, are very sensitive, select the value in accordance with the teachings of the Church, have a mature perspective of the impact of suffering on their own lives and deeper self- awareness. As a result of the analysis of the research, it turned out, what makes people who were suffering a lot that they are more mature than urgent, is to focus on God, and the meeting in the life pattern friend. This empirical fact confirms the excellent relationship that suffering, combined with a positive attitude towards God, and in combination with the possession of a Friend, refines and leads to maturity. The subjects – people who have suffered showed that the suffering (in conjunction with faith) will cause mature character, at least moderately. Not suffering respondents always have immature character. Maturity character occurs in those who were the most suffering but not always at the same time they have a personality and emotional maturity. The article concludes with a discussion that contains educational message, broadening the conclusions of the study on the educational aspects.
