Opis:
A formulation is presented for optimal design in the setting of linear elastostatics for continuum structures, where the modulus tensor field is expressed as a decomposition into a set of independent tensors. For the linear case at hand, net material properties simply equal the sum of the constituent tensor fields. The design variables are comprised of one or more of the these fields, while the remaining ones in the "mix" are taken to be specified and fixed. The optimal continuum structure is designated to be such combination of designed and specified constituent fields that minimizes structural compliance. A set of unit energies is introduced to serve as a basis for the general expression of both unit cost in the isoperimetric (cost) constraint, and unit strain energy. The design problem is characterized in the form of a max-min problem, where the max applies to design and the (inner) min is w.r.t. the state variables. Partitioning of energies among constituents in the optimal mixture is identified directly from the govering equations.

Opis:
Cyclic loading of a material entails modifications of its properties. In the paper, the proplem of the influence of determination of the elasticity modulus E on calculations of the fatigue life of structural elements was presented. Different values of the modulus of elasticity obtained by different methods were used for modelling of cyclic stress-strain curves and for analysis of local stresses and strains. In the calculations the strain-life and energy-life approach was applied.
W pracy przedstawiono analizę ilościowej zmienności modułu E w zależności od rodzaju obciążenia (monotonicznie i cyklicznie zmienne), a w przypadku obciążenia cyklicznie zmiennego także od wartości amplitudy obciążenia. Ponadto wyznaczono różnicę szacowanych trwałości wynikającą z przyjęcia różnych wartości modułu E. Badania przeprowadzono dla trzech różnych materiałów. Dodatkowo obserwowano zmianę wartości modułu E w różnych okresach trwałości zmęczeniowej.

The design process is mostly connected with a proper selection of construction materials. Newly designed UAVs must undergo assessment in terms of performed tasks, range or fuel consumption. A significant influence upon the selection of materials, which are long lasting and resistant to damage, is exerted by the conditions of work of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. They mainly execute their tasks at high altitudes with high speeds, where temperature and pressure differences may extensively damage not only the airframe skin, but also the equipment and the propulsion system itself. The aim of this study is to present the characteristics of materials currently used as well as their assessment in employed construction elements of UAVs. Polymer composites are superior to Al and Ti alloys, steel within the parameters of tensile strength and stiffness. As for the density gradient, polymer carbon fibre composites exceed glass fibre composites, also under cyclically variable loads. Glass fibre composites during tensile testing show higher values and a higher capability of absorbing energy under static and dynamic forces. Polymer matrix composites, reinforced with Kevlar, are less stiff than carbon-fibre composites, due to lower values of elasticity modulus, however they demonstrate higher impact load. Strength tests provide valuable data concerning the properties of a given material, such as tensile modulus E [MPa], tensile strength UTS [MPa], or resistance to high temperatures. It must be noted that these properties significantly affect the functioning of the airframe and its components.

In recent years, metal additive manufacturing developed intensively and became a relevant technology in industrial production of highly complex and function integrated parts. However, almost all additively manufactured parts must be post-processed in order to fulfil geometric tolerances, surface quality demands and the desired functional properties. Thus, additive manufacturing actually means the implementation of additive-subtractive process chains. Starting with the most relevant additive processes (powder-based PBF-LB, LMD-p and wire-based WAAM and LMD-w/WLAM), considering intermediate process steps (heat treatment and shot peening) and ending up with post-processing material removal processes (with defined and undefined cutting edges), this paper gives an overview of recent research findings with respect to a comprehensive scientific investigation of influences and interactions within the additive-subtractive process chain. This includes both the macroscopic geometric scale and the microscopic scale of the material structure. Finally, conclusions and future perspectives are derived and discussed.

In the paper the short theoretical backgrounds about elastic-plastic fracture mechanics were presented and the O’Dowd-Shih theory was discussed. Using ADINA System program, the values of the Q-stress determined for various elastic-plastic materials for SEN(T) specimen – single edge notched plates in tension – were presented. The influence of kind of the specimen, crack length and material properties (work-hardening exponent and yield stress) on the Q-parameter were tested. The numerical results were approximated by the closed form formulas. Presented in the paper results are complementary of the two papers published in 2007 (Graba, 2007) and in 2010 (Graba, 2010), which show and describe influence of the material properties and crack length for the Q-stress value for SEN(B) and CC(T) specimens respectively. Presented and mentioned papers show such catalogue of the Q-stress value, which may be used in engineering analysis for calculation of the real fracture toughness.

Opis:
It is expected that damping in amorphous metals change after its recrystallization. For this purpose study of this phenomena was investigated. An alloy Fe75 Z r4Ti3B17Cu1 was manufactured in a very specific conditions to obtain amorphous structure. To confirm structure of the manufactured material basic testing was conducted including XRD, AFM, LFM and SEM with EDS attachment. The study showed that the structure in fact is partially amorphous and partially nanocrystalline. To determine expected change of damping sample in form of rod was tested for bounce height in controlled conditions before and after heat treatment that changed materials structure. Obtained results indicate decrease of damping after heat treatment and therefore confirms initial assumption.

The article provides a discussion on the studies comprising active experiments conducted on selected structural components, the purpose of which was to analyse the impact of properties of the material used on the dynamic state form. The vibration excitation was achieved by applying a force impulse of a specific value. The studies were conducted on excitations acting perpendicularly to the surface of the component being examined in strictly established geometric arrangements. Consequently, signals were obtained to be subsequently applied for the sake of analysis of the impact of material properties on the manner of the vibration energy propagation in the machine components examined. The signal processing method used was based on application of a time and frequency transformation which enables obtaining the information the signals carry in two domains simultaneously, namely those of time and frequency. The results provided and discussed evidence the applicability of the method described in the analysis of the material impact on dynamic properties of the given structural component.
W ramach pracy wykonano czynne eksperymenty na wybranych elementach konstrukcyjnych, których celem była analiza wpływu cech zastosowanego materiału na postać stanu dynamicznego. Jako wymuszenia drgań zastosowano impuls siły o określonej wartości. Badania prowadzono przy wymuszeniach działających prostopadle do powierzchni badanego elementu w ściśle określonych geometrycznie położeniach. W odpowiedzi uzyskano sygnały, które wykorzystano do analizy wpływu cech materiałowych na sposób rozchodzenia sie energii drganiowej w badanych częściach maszyn. Zastosowana metoda przetwarzania sygnałów bazuje na wykorzystaniu przekształcenia czasowo-czestotliwościowego, które umożliwia uzyskanie informacji zawartej w sygnałach jednocześnie w dwóch dziedzinach - czasu i częstotliwości. Zaprezentowane wyniki potwierdzają przydatność opisanej metody w analizie wpływu rodzaju zastosowanego tworzywa na własności dynamiczne elementu konstrukcyjnego.

The present paper, provides a study of conducting experimental investigations (based on the ISO standards), in the context of determining material properties (mechanical and strength parame-ters) in the case of thin-walled composite structures - made of carbon-epoxy composite. Tests were carried out on 5 different types of test specimens (in accordance with the standards), with a minimum of 9 specimens per each type of test. The tests provided high repeatability of results, and the large number of test specimens per each test made it possible to precisely average the test results in terms of determining the necessary material properties. The tests were carried out using a Zwick Z100 universal testing machine (UTM), under room temperature conditions, using two types of test heads that allow static experimental tests. The results presented in this paper con-stitute a prelude to research within the framework of the project from the National Science Centre (Poland) with the number 2021/41/B/ST8/00148. The paper presents the initial stage of the im-plementation of the aforementioned project - which was the determination of material parameters of the composite material from which the target thin-walled composite structures with closed sections were made.

Residual lifetimes and/or structural integrity assessments of critical components of mechanical plants and/or steel structures reąuire the knowledge of actual mechanical properties of the components' materials, because the material properties could be reduced throughout a service life by ageing. the use of standardised mechanical test techniques for determination of actual mechanical properties of the components under operation can cause its considerable damage due to size of necessary testing material and following repairs by welding. The need of a large amount of testing material can be eliminated by new advanced testing method based on „ non destructive " sampling of a small amount of testing material from the component surface. the mechanical characteristics are then determined by Small Punch) Tests (SPT). This paper describes the use of this advanced test technique for determination of tensile properties and fracture characteristics (FATT, J IC) of materials. The small punch test technique provides at present time a vehicle for determination of actual tensile and fracture properties necessary for optimisation of operating procedures and inspection intervals as well as for repairs strategies and residual lifetime assessment.

The paper focuses on the material mechanics properties of reinforced concrete and steel casing composite concrete under pseudo-static loads and their application in structure. Although elevated pile-group foundation is widely used in bridge, port and ocean engineering, the seismic performance of this type of foundation still need further study. Four scale-specimens of the elevated pile-group foundation were manufactured by these two kinds of concrete and seismic performance characteristic of each specimen were compared. Meanwhile, the special soil box was designed and built to consider soil-pile-superstructure interaction. According to the test result, the peak strength of strengthening specimens is about 1.77 times of the others and the ultimate displacement is 1.66 times of the RC specimens. Additionally, the dissipated hysteric energy capability of strengthening specimens is more than 2.15 times of the others as the equivalent viscous damping ratio is reduced by 50%. The pinching effect of first two specimens is more obvious than latter two specimens and the hysteretic loops of reinforced specimens are more plumpness. The pseudo-static tests also provided the data to quantitatively assessment the positive effect of steel casing composite concrete in aseismatic design of bridge.

Opis:
Nowadays a modern building must be energy efficient, i.e. distinguished by extremely low energy consumption. The building must be built according to the principles of sustainability, considering how it can be maximally friendly to the environment, and its life cycle should comply with the principles of the circular economy. Buildings with constructions made from natural origin materials are being built more and more in Lithuania. Such materials include fibrous hemp. The study presents the results of research on the properties of hemp shiv concrete made with binders of different compositions. The calcitic lime, composite portland cement, organic sapropel and mixtures of these materials were used as binding material for the research. Hemp shives are used for concrete fillers. The tests determined the compressive strength of hemp-shiv concrete, and the thermal conductivity of the concrete was tested under laboratory conditions. The research was performed based on standard methods and equipment.

The article discusses the materials currently used for transmission elements as an alternative to traditionally used bearing, alloy and special steels, for carburizing and for improvement. The material properties were presented, the possibilities of their implementation were discussed, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of their application. A comparative analysis of the proposed materials was made. The possible development directions have been indicated.
W artykule omówiono materiały współcześnie stosowane na elementy przekładni jako alternatywa dla tradycyjnie stosowanych stali łożyskowych, stopowych, specjalnych, do nawęglania oraz do ulepszania. Przedstawiono właściwości materiałów, omówiono możliwości ich implementacji, a także wskazano zalety i wady, wynikające z ich zastosowania. Dokonano analizy porównawczej zaproponowanych materiałów. Wskazano możliwe kierunki rozwoju.

The article addresses results of analyses of design solutions and materials commonly used in gas springs for hydropneumatic suspension systems. The authors have discussed main advantages resulting from application of such a design solution in passenger car suspension systems. Fundamental correlations defining the parameters characterising a gas spring with constant gas mass have been referred to. Also materials used in the manufacture of selected gas spring elements have been described.

Opis:
The paper described properties of electro-spark deposited coatings under influence of the laser treatment process. The properties were assessed by analyzing the coating microstructure, X-ray radiation, microhardness, bonding strength, corrosion resistance, porosity and wear tests. The tests were conducted for Mo and Cu coatings (the anode) which were electro-spark deposited over the C45 steel substrate (the cathode) and melted with a laser beam. The coatings were deposited by means of an ELFA-541. The laser processing was performed with an Nd:YAG laser. The coatings after laser processing are still distinguished by very good performance properties, which make them suitable for use in sliding friction pairs.
