Opis:
Autor przedstawia perspektywę społeczno-kulturową uczenia się agresji i przemocy z głównym odniesieniem do kultury sportowej. Problemy agresji i destrukcyjności analizowane są w świetle koncepcji Aronsona, Fromma i innych teoretyków. Ukazano też historyczną perspektywę brutalizacji sportu i instytucjonalnej tego akceptacji. Podjęto dyskusję dotyczącą trafności eksplikacji zjawiska agresji. Od teorii ludzkiej destrukcyjności Ericha Fromma autor przechodzi do jej aplikacji – propozycji przeciwdziałania agresywności z wykorzystaniem środków kultury fizycznej. Otóż „Humanistyczna Teoria Sztuk Walki”, komplementarna wobec koncepcji Fromma, i same umiejętnie nauczane sztuki walki w ich tradycyjnej postaci są drogami przeciwdziałania agresywności i dobrym sposobem profilaktyki przemocy.
The author presents the socio-cultural perspective of learning aggression and violence with a main reference to sports culture. The problems of aggression and destructiveness are analyzed in the light of the concepts of Aronson, Fromm and other theorists. The historical perspective of sport brutalization and institutional acceptance was also shown. A discussion was initiated regarding the accuracy of the aggression phenomenon. From the theory of human destructiveness of Erich Fromm, the author proceeds to its application – a proposal to counteract aggressiveness using the means of physical culture. Well, the “Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts”, complementary to the concept of Fromm, and the same skillfully taught martial arts in their traditional form are ways to counteract aggressiveness and a good way to prevent violence.

Opis:
Authors have presented and discussed the content of the Budo Charter, positioning it in social phenomenon forming a system of security culture. This is modernized ethics canon and a kind of credo showing today’s social mission, which is implemented by the transmission of Japanese martial arts of budo. Triangulated problem analysis was carried out from three perspectives – humanist theory of martial arts, security sciences and anthropology of martial arts. It was concluded that the content contained in the Budo Charter are elements of security culture, which show continuous up-to-date ideals carried since ancient times by the honorable Samurai code bushido and its manual application, which is a collection of martial arts of budo from the Japanese Islands.

Opis:
Background. The broad humanistic and socio-cultural theoretical perspectives applied to this research effort provides a foundation for the Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts and the anthropological focus on martial arts used in this paper. Hence, conceptual language has been adopted for this investigation. The aim is to assess and identify the ethical values and pro-social perspectives accentuated by highranking masters in the martial art of jujutsu. Specifically, this paper seeks to answer the question of which values are most often prioritized or stressed? Method. The discussion involves the analysis of a broad survey of scientific and expert literature. Quoted and compared are the opinions and perspectives of 11 Grand Masters of jujutsu, holders of the highest titles and master's degrees (i.e, 9-10 dan), are analyzed and presented as evidence. Results. Classical schools and their representatives uniformly accentuate the value of tradition. On the other hand, there is a trend toward modernization both in the content of teaching and in technical ideas. This modernization began with Jigoro Kano, whose followers are today seen as reformers. All present Grand Masters pay attention to the ethical values and educational aspects of martial arts, particularly with regard to jujutsu. Conclusions. Ethics in jujutsu extends, as a kind of continuum between the traditionalist Butoku (i.e, knightly virtues resulting from Bushido) and the axiology of Christian Europe. A general consensus exists as to its educational and pro-social values. Aspects may also include self-control, self-discipline, perseverance, and responsibility, which are shaped by long-term educational processes.

Opis:
Cel badań. Głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie możliwości rozwoju turystyki sztuk i sportów walki na przykładzie wyjazdów studyjnych do krajów europejskich i dalekowschodnich. Materiał i metody. W celu rozwiązania problemu badawczego zastosowano metodę porównawczą. Dodatkowo przeprowadzono kwerendę i analizę źródeł, wykorzystano także obserwację uczestniczącą. Wyniki. Dodatkowo poddano analizie logistyczne i organizacyjne elementy wyjazdów związanych z turystyką sztuk i sportów walki. Wnioski. Turystyka sztuk i sportów walki ma możliwość dalszego rozwoju i ewolucji dzięki masowej reklamie tych form aktywności w telewizji i innych mediach.
Background. The article mainly focuses on the possible development of martial arts and combat sports tourism on the basis of examples of study visits to European and Far Eastern countries. Material and methods. Comparative method was applied to examine the research problem. Furthermore, review and analysis of relevant resources was performed and participant observation was used. Results. The article discusses various aspects of martial arts and combat sports tourism, i.e. those related to education, culture, sports, training, and presents the main destinations for martial arts tourism – the Shaolin Monastery in Dengfeng and the Taekwondo Park in Muju. Additionally, logistic and organisational aspects of journeys related to martial arts and combat sports are analysed. Conclusions. Martial arts and combat sports tourism may continue to develop and evolve owing to massive advertising of this activity on television and in other media. The development may be multifaceted, relating to both educational tourism and sports tourism, the latter focusing on technical aspects directly connected with the practice of martial arts and combat sports and efforts to expand one’s qualifications in specialised facilities.

Problem and Aim: The current article is an attempt to summarize the experiences gained from two foreign conferences, the 50th Japanese Academy of Budo Conference and the 2nd International Budo Conference at the Centenary Memorial Hall on Kansai University, which were recognized simultaneously as the VI International IMACSSS Conference, and the accompanying events, as well as 8th International Scientific Congress “Sport, People and Health”, organized by, among others, P.F. Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health and the International Sambo Federation. The third of these scientific events was the 6th International Taekwondo Symposium for Taekwondo Studies, which was held in Muju, South Korea. Materials and Method: Due to the multidisciplinary approach nature of the conferences, content analysis of literature and extensive discourse analysis as well as the participant observation were used. Three case studies are also provided. Results and Conclusions: The indicated trips and scientific events offal within martial arts tourism, which is at the same time a journey for scientific study and exchange of knowledge related to martial arts research. It is therefore connected with scientific tourism as well as with congress and educational tourism. The described scientific events are relevant for research on martial arts tourism and for describing the process of institutionalizing the scientific research of martial arts and the recent history of the institutions in this area.

Opis:
A scientific framework for this study is the Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts, and the psychology of sport using the concepts of goal, task and success. The problem and aim of this study was an explanation of “perception of success” in groups of adults practising martial arts. Is perception of success influenced by the respondents’ social background or the type of martial art practised? Would there be any differences in results depending on their country of origin and residence, and if so, what results? The research was done within the framework of the IMACSSS.1A/2011: “Social determinants of participation in martial arts schools and clubs”. The tool was Perception of Success Questionnaire, which was used to survey a number of respondents from the United States, the Czech Republic and Poland, who were selected randomly and participated voluntarily. The statements and calculations have been ranked by more or less contact forms of martial arts. The results obtained in this study indicate a poor relationship between perception of success and the type of fighting style practised and a measurable relationship between the perception of success and social origin. There is a weak relationship in perception of success by respondents from American or European cultures.

Opis:
In the theoretical frames of anthropology of martial arts and the humanistic theory of martial arts, I analysed, as a scientific problem, the impact of Chinese elements – ideological and technical – in the curriculum of Idokan Yoshin-ryu in the Idokan Poland Association (IPA). Two qualitative methods were used: the content analysis of the literature and a broad discourse, and the method of long-term participant observation. Three levels of influence of Chinese martial arts in the Idokan Yoshin-ryu Budo programme were distinguished: 1) in terms of symbolism and values; 2) strategies and tactics; 3) used techniques and training methods. This influence is direct or indirect. Indirect, when a martial art (like karate or in part also jujutsu) has its roots in China. Direct, when the masters deliberately introduce Chinese elements into the curriculum of individual disciplines. Evolution of martial arts leads to mixing techniques, in particular, the adoption of more effective solutions. An example is the system Idokan Yoshin-ryu. Elements of Chinese origin are found here in techniques, as well as in concepts and principles.

Opis:
The author presents the mythical and archetypical roots common for martial arts and theatre. He also describes Far-Eastern rituals and theatre, the film of martial arts, the relations of martial arts with dance, as well as aesthetical and meta-aesthetical relations. He writes about knowledge encoded in movement, in the forms of martial arts. These forms are close to theatrical performance. The record of the technical fighting movement (Jap. kata), passed on in unchanged form through centuries, makes the one who exercises the martial arts almost an actor. It is known otherwise, that everyone executes, a given form differently adding elements of his own personality to it. The article contains the reflection based on the humanistic theory of Far-Eastern martial arts and many years author’s experience in training practice. The Chinese, Japanese or Korean martial arts transfer in form of the “kata” the technical and tactical knowledge of the former masters, experience from performed fights, but also a large load of cultural and symbolic knowledge which hides in names the gestures and spiritual dimension of its practice. Similarly to the theatre, Far-Eastern martial arts originate from (or they reflect strong connection with) magic and religious rituals, what can be observed on the example of sumō wrestling. It is possible to formulate here the chain of connections: magic – ritual – dance – theatre, and, further – the cinema and film.
