Opis:
The effects of different types of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi on the root inoculation and plant elemental content of lupin (Lupinus albus L.) were investigated in the present study. The growth and development of lupin were examined to determine the species of AM fungi that can help to grow lupin with a high protein content and economic value. In this study, which was carried out as a pot experiment under controlled greenhouse conditions, first the pots were inoculated with Glomus geosporum, Glomus mosseae, Glomus caledonium, Glomus etunicatium mycorrhizal spores and then lupin (Lupinus albus) seeds were sown. The plants were watered with pure water during the experiment. The trial was terminated after a 60-day plant gowing period. In the study, inoculation occurred at lupin roots at rates varying between 13.3 and 30.0%. However, there was no statistically significant difference among the types of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi applied to the plant in the inoculation rate. The examination of the effect of the application of different AM (Glomus geosporum, Glomus mosseae, Glomus caledonium, Glomus etunicatium) spore on the plant development showed that AM inoculation did not have an effect on the lupin development. The effect of AM inoculation on the plant’s nutrient content revealed no significant difference in the content of crude protein, P and K, while demonstrating a significant increase in the sulphur and magnesium content versus the control. The plant content of crude protein varied between 185.6 and 226.5 (g kg-1), phosphorus – 0.61-0.74 (g kg-1) and potassium – 9.6-11.1 (g kg-1). The concentrations of Zn, Cu, B and Mo in lupin did not show statistically significant modifications caused by the inoculation of different types of AM. However, the plant Mn content showed a decrease due to AM inoculation, whereas a significant increase was observed in the Na content after AM inoculation. AM fungi were observed in plant roots after the inoculation with any of the four different types of mycorrhiza. But no positive effects of mycorrhizal inoculation were not observed on crude protein and the uptake of plant nutrients.

Opis:
Embryo development of Lupinus albus L. and L. mutabilis Sweet. after pollination with L. angustifolius L. was studied. Observations of ovules revealed non-typical embryo development. From the 5th day after pollination, high number of degenerated ovules was found; the highest number was observed on 15 and 20 days after pollination. The period between the 10th and 15th day after pollination was the most suitable for isolation of embryos in all the examined combinations, with exception L. albus x L. angustifolius where optimal isolation time was between 15th and 20 th day after pollination. Embryos were obtained in each cross-pollination. Some of them developed in vitro into plantlets and grew in an artificial medium for some time, but most of them died due to non-typical development of the root system, stem, or both. The hybrid character of the survived plants requires confirmation.

The influence of different nitrogen forms: (N2), [N2+(NH4++NO3-)], (NH4+), (NO3-), (NH4++NO3-) and (-NH2) on changes of albumin, globulin, prolamin-glutelin, non-fractioned nitrogen and non-protein nitrogen fractions of the protein seed of alkaloid-low content Lupinus albus L. cv. Butan has been studied. The experiments were performed in a greenhouse on perlite using in all cases the constant P, K, Mg and micronutrients (B, Zn, Mn, Cu, Mo, Fe) fertilization. The control was the treatment without any nitrogen support (Nd). It was clearly shown that nitrogen form has significant effect not only on the seed yield and seed protein content, but also on the composition of protein fractions and on the biological value of lupin protein. The main protein fraction of the seeds from all treatments were albumins (16.73-26.10 mgN/g). Among all the treatments, the highest level of globulin was observed for the seeds of plant growing with the symbiotic nitrogen form (15.26 mgN/g), while the lowest one for the control (Nd) (6.86 mgN/g). Symbiotic nitrogen (N2) treatment clearly increased the glutelin-prolamin fraction while the addition of mineral nitrogen (NH4++NO3-) decreased this fraction from 8.40 to 4.48 mgN/g. The lowest level of the glutelin-prolamin fraction was in the absence of any nitrogen (Nd). Non-protein fraction (Nnp) was highest in the case of plants treated with (-NH2) (9.92 mgN/g), and the lowest in the absence of nitrogen (Nd) (4.90 mgN/g). The level of non-fractioned nitrogen (Nr), with exception of [N2+(NH4++NO3-)] and -NH2 treatments, was closest to the start material. The protein fractions (albumins, globulins and glutelins and prolamins) were also electrophoretically characterized. These analysis confirmed the changes in protein composition of particular fractions under the effect of various nitrogen forms used as a fertilizer.

Opis:
Fusarium wilt is the most harmful soil-borne disease of lupins in Russia and in the Ukraine. The aim of the studies was to find broad resistance to disease in collection accessions and to breed lupin forms resistant to Fusarium wilt for the future breeding program. Lupin cultivars and lines (547 accessions) from the genebank of the N.I. Vavilov All Russian Scientific Research Institute of Plant Industry, St. Petersburg, Russia, were tested for Fusarium resistance under different environmental conditions of three regions in Russia and in the Ukraine on plots with artificially infested soil. So, differences in the disease susceptibility of the same accessions were found in contrasting environments. Resistant forms from one region were crossed with accessions showing their resistance in two other regions to accumulate resistance genes in new genotypes. As a result of hybridization two transgressive forms were obtained in F₄ of the crosses cv. Frost × cv. Apendrilon (L. angustifolius) and line G-413 × line 85 (L. luleus). Their resistance in all three regions appeared to be higher than that of their parental forms. These two lines were found suitable for the breeding programme of Fusarium resistant forms in Russia and in the Ukraine.
