Opis:
The paper presents empirical equations for the determination of dbh form factors for larch. The developed equations enable the calculation of the under−bark and over−bark stem volume, merchantable tree volume and utility timber volume. The equation variants proposed in the paper enable the determination of the discussed form factors both for trees and stands.

Opis:
The forest development strategy is a hierarchical set of actions specifying the ways to achieve three mutually integrated objectives: principal (strategic), tactical and operational. The principal objectives are formulated in the forest development control process and relate to forests understood as a whole, are long−term and determined by the forest and ecological policy of the state. The tactical objectives are formulated in the forest management regulation process, are medium−term (10 years) and refer to forest estates or forest management units. The operational objectives are formulated in the forest management planning process, are short−term (annual) and relate to economic activities performed in individual stands.

Opis:
The paper presents the tables for indirect determination of the age of silver birch (Betula pendula Roth) trees basing on easy to measure dendrometric parameters. We elaborated empirical formulae that enable determination of tree age using total tree height, breast height diameter and stump diameter as the predictors. Data was collected in 40 pure silver birch stands growing on former farmlands in Mazowsze region (central Poland). Sample material consisted of data from the stem analyses of 200 trees and measurements of 600 stumps. Obtained equations explain 70−86% of the age variability. The best fit was achieved for joint use of total tree height and breast height diameter as the independent variables.

Opis:
A model for volume shares of 15 stem sections of the same relative length was developed on the basis of empirical material consisting of 615 larches. The volume share for each section is described by a general equation [2] taking into consideration the diameter at breast height and height of a tree. The parameters of the equation are presented in the table. With the empirical formula for the dbh form factor of the larch stem under bark [4], the volume of a tree can be determined using formula [3]. This enables building a taper model, thus determining the thickness in the middle of each of 15 sections and, by way of linear interpolation, the thickness in any place within the stem. The model allows to calculate the volume of any part of the larch stem.

In forest management planning the enhancement of forest biological diversity at the genetic, species, ecosystem and landscape levels occurs through making general and specific decisions. The major general decisions concern forest categorisation, division of a forest into management units, choice of a management system and setting silvicultural−management objectives. Specific decisions concern three processes of forests development affecting forest sustainability, i.e. regeneration, survival and disappearance of trees and stands.

Omówiono ponadto wykorzystanie obszaru Puszczy jako obiektu do zbierania materiałów do prac dyplomowych przez studentów z wielu uczelni oraz zaprezentowano zakres edukacji ekologicznej realizowanej przez Kozienicki Park Krajobrazowy i nadleśnictwa Kozienice, Radom i Zwoleń.
In the first part of the paper there are presented directions and range of botanic research made in the recent years and presently held in Koziencka Primeval Forest, and review of chosen published research works on nature of this area from the turn of the XX and XXI centuries. Widely elaborated is the use of the Forest area as the place to collect data for theses by students from many different universities. There is presented the range of ecological education realized by Kozienicki Landscape Park and Kozienice, Radom, and Zwoleń Forest Inspectorates.

Opis:
Improvement of the quality of habitats has increased the importance of forest stands in the regeneration phase. This period can be divided into two management sub−stages: sowing and cleaning phases. In the forest management practice, such stand category is characterized only by total area and growing stock. Double−feature (area, volume) table shows more complete characterization of age classes, which ranks the stands of this category with regard to their age and percentage of the area covered by the regeneration. The table can be used to determine the order of stand selection for felling. Too slow removal of old−growth stands is found to delay the exposure of the usually overgrown regenerations, often causing their damage in the process of forest utilisation or due to the lack of shelter from the wind−fallen trees. The existing management rules for the stands in this category should be changed.

The article provides assumptions for a small−scale statistical method for tree health assessment. A survey was used to detect the degree of defoliation by applying an simple random sampling design on P3 plots of the SINUS system. The proposed small−scale method can be a valuable supplementary method to the existing large−scale methods used for the assessment of tree health condition in Poland.

The paper presents empirical equations elaborated to determine dry biomass of Scots pine trees and their parts. Basing on the relationships between dry biomass of different tree parts and tree characteristics, various forms of commonly used non−linear biomass equations were examined. To assure additive character of biomass equations, seemingly unrelated regression was used for the final model fitting.
