Opis:
Studies linking the use of lean practices to company performance have been increasing as markets are becoming more competitive and companies are eager for reducing waste and therefore implementing the Lean Management (LM) philosophy to improve performance. However, results from these studies have found various and different impacts and some light is needed. Extant literature was reviewed and, to achieve the research objective, a metaanalysis of correlations was carried out. The obtained results suggest a positive relationship between some lean practices and performance measures. Furthermore, the presence of moderators influencing the relationship between lean practices and performance outcomes is highlighted in our results. To our best knowledge, this is the first research that proposes a comparison of results from primary studies on Lean implementation, by analysing the linear relationship between lean practices and enterprise performance. It fills this gap and therefore represents an important contribution.

For over ten years the authors of this article have had a growing conviction, resulting from their observations, that regardless of the approach adopted, the role of the company's boss always turns out to be of paramount importance during the implementation of both technical and sociological aspects of Lean philosophy. Having analyzed their experience gained from cooperation with different enterprises, conversations with company bosses, the studies of subject matter literature and internet sources, the authors have put together their thoughts on this role in ten points, even daring to call them commandments. The methodology of affinity diagram has been used to aggregate gathered data.

Within classic German manufacturing structures, costs of resources exceed all other cost factors by 46% [1]. Solitary focus on energy or labor costs as sources to raise companies profit no longer seems adequate. Nowadays material costs of the manufacturing industry are about 500 billion euro per year, connected with a saving potential of 100 billion euro per year. Also the belonging for sustainably produced products is raising and becoming a factor for guaranteed purchases [2]. A small and medium-sized enterprise fitted approach, which ensures to increase the transparency of internal process structures and allows a resource driven, ecological and economical assessment, is the main subject of this article.

The article discussed is the concept of Lean Manufacturing in the organization, improving pro-ducts and processes used by the concept of Lean Manufacturing. Striving for excellence is a key factor to remain competitive in the market. Only organizations that are able to more quickly than others to adapt to changing environmental conditions reach advantage. Management in line with the philosophy of Lean Manufacturing is a classic example of change management.

Due to an increase in energy price and pollution plus environmental regulations, companies start to adopt green policies. In fact, companies are encouraged by governments to develop strategies to achieve more sustainable operations. Based on this literature review the contribution of Lean Manufacturing on environmental performances will be discussed, a survey of 50 different automotive companies based in Morocco, shows how they are carrying out manufacturing and environmental practices. The result of this study shows a positive impact of advanced Lean Manufacturing’s tools on the environmental performance and contribute to the present literature on environmentally friendly Manufacturing. The findings and proposals of this paper can be a beginning step for Moroccan companies to completely use their capability of environmental practices and improve their manufacturing productivity performance while identifying trends in organizational development.

Lean is a culture of real and continuous optimization. As a concept of continuous optimization in the midst of limited resources, it must be practiced continuously as a long-term organizational norm. This paper revels why changeover time reduction is important in manufacturing industries and from the various tools and techniques available within Lean manufacturing describes mainly SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) for changeover time reduction and its application in Shaft manufacturing industry. This paper also describes principles, benefits, procedures and practical application of SMED. Theoretical bases are verified in a practical part that describes the analysis and design optimization of non-productive time at changeover honing machine in a selected shaft manufacturing company. The output is the structural design of universal palettes and an evaluation of productivity due to optimization of operations of time honing gear shafts. The results achieved show considerable reduction in delay arising out of machine setting time, batch-setting time and demonstration delay.

Manufacturing companies are now placing great emphasis on competitiveness and looking for ways to utilise their resources more efficiently. This paper presents optimum efficiency improvement of the automotive transmission assembly production line by using line balancing. 3 assembly stations were selected to optimize where waste management requirements are not met for achieving the production capacity. Several measures were proposed on the assembly lines concerned to reduce operations by using eliminating unnecessary activities of the assembly processes, reducing the cycle time, and balancing manpower workload using line balancing through Yamazumi chart and Takt time. The results of the proposed measures were compared with the current situation in terms of increasing the efficiency of the production line.

The authors of this paper present the stages of SMED method implementation and standardization of jobs on the example of a company in the metal industry. Particular emphasis is placed on the analysis of the lathe socket, focusing on its standardization and the manner and times of changeover. The work described here is an example of introducing new solutions and improving the changeover process. The summary describes the key results of the improvements, resulting in improved availability of equipment, which in turn translates into increased productivity.

This paper presents the findings of research of a short-pulse low pressure carburizing technology developed for a new large-chamber furnace for high-performance and precision thermal treatment of parts of mechanical gear. Sections of the article discuss the novel constructions of the device in which parts being carburized flow in a stream, as well as the low-pressure carburizing experiment. The method has been found to yield uniform, even and repeatable carburized layers on typical gear used in automotive industry.

The paper deals with the use of Lean Manufacturing tools in improving the production process of car arm rests in a car manufacturing company in Poland. The article describes the original condition of a single production process of assembling ready pieces to produce car arm rests. The original condition was assessed and described with the use of some basic Lean indicators and value stream mapping. The aforementioned tools allowed to assess the process condition and to identify the organizational issues and their sources. It also enabled to reorganize the process and increase its efficiency. The further part of the article describes the results of improvement actions. The process assessment was held and improvements introduced in the first quarter of 2018.

Elastyczność systemów produkcyjnych jest warunkiem zaspokajania różnorodnych i szybko zmieniających się potrzeb klientów. Jednym z narzędzi pozwalających na zwiększanie elastyczności jest metodyka SMED (ang. Single Minute Exchange of Die). Metodyka ta jest zbiorem wytycznych, pozwalających uzyskać cel, jakim jest przezbrojenie maszyny w czasie liczonym w pojedynczych minutach. W artykule przedstawiono zasady związane z doskonaleniem organizacji procesu przezbrojeń oraz przedstawiono przykład zastosowania metodyki SMED. Stanowi on jednocześnie ilustrację wykorzystania wybranych narzędzi organizatorskich w rozwiązywaniu problemów produkcyjnych.
The flexibility of nowadays production systems is the core factor as concerns the fulfilment of different and changing requirements of the customers. The SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) method is one of the tools which allow to increase the flexibility. It is a methodology which consists of hints and rules allowing for reach the goal – the set up times reduction. The article presents the rules for the improvement of the process organisation of setting up the machine and the example of SMED method usage in selected company. The contents of the article shows usefulness of the selected organisational techniques while solving the production processes.

This paper presents a concept of using selected lean manufacturing methods. The lean manufacturing methods and techniques allow a systematic identification and elimination of waste by the continuous improvement of logistics processes in manufacturing enterprises. The reduction of costs and improvement in product quality, and also customizing a product with a customer’s requirements in mind, have a key importance in gaining competitive advantage. This is often connected with the maintenance of machines, particularly to increasing their reliability and obtaining better production flexibility. Lean has established itself as the primordial approach to obtain operational excellence. Its simple and intuitive techniques focus on reducing lead time through continuous improvement, involving all levels of employees in the organization. However, the rate of successful implementations has remained low. This paper contributes to the understanding of continuous improvement in a Lean context, by analyzing a database of almost 10.000 improvement actions, from 85 companies, covering the time frame 2010–2018. It discusses categories of actions, their impact and cost, as well as key characteristics of the companies. It proposes an objective criterion to identify “success” and “failure” in Lean implementation and tries to link these to operational results. It is probably the first time an analysis of this magnitude on the subject has been performed.

The first part of this paper presents the most popular on-the-job training methods and comments on their effectiveness. Then Training Within Industry (TWI) program, that originated in US in 1940s, is described. TWI program includes the Job Instruction method focused on improving on-the-job training efficiency. Problems with the knowledge transfer associated with the application of Job Instruction method are described in the next part of the paper. Finally, the newly designed Method Instruction focused on knowledge transfer is introduced. The Method Instruction is based on the philosophy of TWI program. Presentation of the structure of the Method Instruction is presented on the 5S System example. The last part of this paper presents where should be applied the Method Instruction in training process in industry companies and how the Method Instruction is a supplement to the Job Instruction method.

The research problem raised at work was to examine the role of lean management in shaping sales and implementation of the strategy. The work consists of three parts. The first part discussed decision making in relation to the implementation of the company's strategy. The second part presented the essence and principles of lean manufacturing in business management. In the last part, a case study was carried out, in which the sales profitability analysis in the context of the implementation of lean manufacturing carried out in three companies of the chemical industry was analyzed. The research methods used in the work were literature studies and index analysis. The case study shown that decisions in the area of sales profitability should include instruments optimizing the costs of operations.
Problemem badawczym podniesionym w pracy było zbadanie roli szczupłego zarządzania w kształtowaniu się sprzedaży oraz realizacji strategii. Praca składa się trzech części. W pierwszej części omówiono podejmowanie decyzji w odniesieniu do realizacji strategii przedsiębiorstwa. W drugiej części zaprezentowano istotę i zasady szczupłego wytwarzania w zarządzaniu przedsiębiorstwem. W ostatniej części przeprowadzono studium przypadku, w którym analizie poddano badanie rentowności sprzedaży w kontekście implementacji szczupłego wytwarzania zrealizowane w trzech przedsiębiorstwach branży chemicznej. Metodami badawczymi zastosowanymi w pracy były studia literaturowe oraz analiza wskaźnikowa. Z przeprowadzonego studium przypadku wynika, że decyzje w obszarze rentowności sprzedaży powinny uwzględniać instrumenty optymalizujące koszty prowadzonej działalności.
