    Opis:
    “How Come We Don’t Deliver?” asks Elana Shohamy in the title of her paper on imagined multilingual schools and tackles the striking issue in education: the need for a paradigm shift towards a multilingual approach. This paper focuses on the role of immigrant teachers in this process. Based on the sociolinguistic framework of linguistic markets and the pedagogical framework of professionalization, it presents a qualitative study on teachers’ language beliefs. Using linguistic biographies, this study reconstructs how beliefs towards multilingualism emerge and develop under different educational settings. The findings indicate significant deviations in the perception of multilingualism and showcase deep insights into the development of these perceptions over time. The results reveal the importance of socio-political setting and contribute to a reflected understanding of linguistic diversity management in multilingual education and the need for teacher professionalization.

    Opis:
    This study discusses the use of a digital portfolio as a means of incorporating literary texts as didactic resources in the EFL classroom. It is structured as follows: (i) introduction, (ii) advantages of using literary texts in the EFL classrooms; (iii) an analysis of portfolios in general, and digital portfolios in particular; (iv) a description of the current proposal for teaching and learning, involving an e-portfolio which focuses on the book Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, by Mary Shelley; and (v) conclusion. In using such a digital resource, students not only read the book itself, but need to complete the three components of the portfolio – a language diary, a language biography, and a section about literary landscapes – all at the different stages in the learning process. The benefits to students were expected to include a positive effect on their overall acquisition of the foreign language, along with the development of other skills and competences, particularly self-assessment and digital competence, while also gaining knowledge about the literary text in question.
    W niniejszym opracowaniu omówiono wykorzystanie cyfrowego portfolio jako sposobu na włączenie tekstów literackich jako zasobów dydaktycznych na zajęciach z języka angielskiego jako obcego. Jego struktura jest następująca: (i) wprowadzenie; (ii) zalety korzystania z tekstów literackich w klasach EFL; (iii) analiza portfolio ogólnie i portfolio cyfrowego w szczególności; (iv) opis propozycji dydaktycznej obejmującej e-portfolio, które koncentruje się na książce Frankenstein autorstwa Mary Shelley; (v) wnioski końcowe. Korzystając z takich zasobów cyfrowych, uczniowie nie tylko przeczytają daną książkę, ale będą także wypełniać trzy składowe portfolio – dziennik językowy, biografię językową i sekcję dotyczącą krajobrazów literackich na różnych etapach procesu uczenia się. Korzyści dla uczniów obejmują pozytywny wpływ na ich ogólne opanowanie języka obcego wraz z rozwojem innych umiejętności i kompetencji, w szczególności samooceny i kompetencji cyfrowych, przy jednoczesnym zdobywaniu wiedzy na temat danego tekstu literackiego.

    Artykuł przedstawia techniki nagrań audio-wideo, które stają się współcześnie jednym z podstawowych narzędzi w badaniu rozwoju systemu językowego dziecka w środowisku monolingwalnym i bilingwalnym. Autorka opisuje biografię językową, jako metodę badania nabywania kompetencji językowych. Jak twierdzi W. Miodunka (2016) – w trakcie procesu badawczego należy stosować zasady otwartości, dobrej komunikacji i naturalności. Cechy te, zdaniem autorki artykułu, można osiągnąć poprzez użycie kamery w procesie obserwacji dziecka. Omówiono również zasady, których należy przestrzegać podczas korzystania z nagrań wideo, co może być niezwykle cenną informacją dla kolejnych badaczy tego zagadnienia. Następnie autorka skupiła się na technice zapisu powstałego materiału badawczego na przy kładzie analizy rozwoju języka dwojga dzieci dwujęzycznych i dwojga dzieci jednojęzycznych.
    The article presents the audio – video techniques that nowadays are the basic tools for the study of the child’s language development. These techniques could be used for mono and bilingual children. The author describes a “language biography” as one of the methods for the acquisition of language competence. According to W. Miodunka (2016), the “language biography” as a research method should include the following characteristics: openness, natural, and excellent communication. These features could be accomplished by using a camera during everyday activities. Additionally, the article presents the principles of recording videos for research purposes that could be valuable information for other studies. Thereafter, the author shows the technique to transcribe recordings based on the language development study of two bilingual and two monolingual children.

    The article examines the language biographies of two generations of a family of German origin in the Czech Republic from the end of World War II to the present day. The content analysis of the biographies is based on the application of the narrative interview method developed in qualitative sociology. The analysis of the data obtained by this method follows the stages in the language use of the two informants in coping with the challenge of the language policies of the state.
    Artykuł analizuje biografie językowe dwóch pokoleń rodziny niemieckiego pochodzenia w Czechach od końca II wojny światowej do dnia dzisiejszego. Analiza treści biografii oparta jest na zastosowaniu metody wywiadu narracyjnego opracowanej w socjologii jakościowej. Analiza danych uzyskanych tą metodą przebiega zgodnie z etapami używania języka przez dwóch informatorów w radzeniu sobie z wyzwaniem polityki językowej państwa.

    Im Zentrum der explorativen Studie steht ein polnischer Sprachwissenschaftler, dessen wissenschaftlicher Auslandsaufenthalt an der Universität Wien durch die Solidarność-Bewegung in seinem Heimatland einen tiefen Einschnitt erfuhr. Sein Engagement für ein Auslandskomitee der Solidarność in Österreich führte zum Entzug der polnischen Staatsbürgerschaft und daraus resultierender Staatenlosigkeit. Die dadurch erzwungene Neuorientierung erforderte die Beherrschung des Deutschen als Arbeitssprache an der Universität (zusätzlich zum Englischen), die er in den Ausbildungsphasen von Schule und Universität in Polen nicht erlernt hatte. Die Daten wurden mithilfe der Methode des narrativen Interviews elizitiert. In der Analyse der transkribierten Interviewausschnitte werden die Stationen des Lebenslaufs und der selbst konstruierten Erwerbsstrategien der Zweitsprache Deutsch innerhalb der Tätigkeit für das politische Komitee für Solidarność verfolgt.
    Artykuł przedstawia sylwetkę polskiego językoznawcy, którego pobyt naukowy za granicą na Uniwersytecie Wiedeńskim został głęboko naznaczony przez ruch Solidarności w jego ojczyźnie. Jego zaangażowanie w działalność Komitetu Zagranicznego Solidarności w Austrii doprowadziło do odebrania mu polskiego obywatelstwa, a w konsekwencji do bezpaństwowości. Wymuszona w ten sposób reorientacja wymagała opanowania języka niemieckiego (i dodatkowo angielskiego) jako języka niezbędnego do pracy na uniwersytecie, gdyż nie uczył się go w ramach edukacji w Polsce. Omawiane w artykule dane zostały pozyskane poprzez introspekcję rozmówcy za pomocą wywiadu narracyjnego. W analizie transkrybowanych fragmentów wywiadu prześledzone zostały etapy drogi życiowej i skonstruowanej na własne potrzeby strategii przyswajania języka niemieckiego jako drugiego języka w ramach działalności na rzecz komitetu politycznego Solidarności.
    The explorative study focuses on a Polish linguist whose academic stay abroad at the University of Vienna was deeply affected by the Solidarność movement in his home country. His involvement with a Solidarność foreign committee in Austria led to the revocation of his Polish citizenship and resulting statelessness. The hereby forced reorientation required mastery of German as a working language at the university (in addition to English), which he had not learned during his educational phases in Poland. The data were elicited through the introspection of the interviewee using the narrative interview. In the analysis of the transcribed interview excerpts, the stages of the life course and self-constructed acquisition strategies of German as a second language within the political committee for Solidarność are traced.
