Opis:
The level of knowledge and attitude to European bison from a local perspective a preliminary study in north-eastern Poland. Among main reasons of lower acceptance of European bison (Bison bonasus) by local communities is the fear of the extent of the possible damage. The fear may be related to myths about the ecology of European bison. The aim of this study was to analyse the level of knowledge of local communities regarding the European bison, and its relation with the level of acceptance for the species. The survey was conducted in the area with already existing population of European bison (Bielsk Forest District), and the area where its reintroduction just have started (Augustów Forest District). The study was based on questionnaires fi lled out personally by workshop participants. The questionnaires contained a test on the level of knowledge on the European bison, the attitude towards this species, and basic information about the respondent. We found that the attitude to European bison was not driven by the level of knowledge. Respondents from Bielsk Forest District presented signifi cantly lower level of acceptance than respondents from Augustów Forest District. The study confi rms, that the level of acceptance towards protected species that may cause human-wildlife confl icts is related to the management methods in the area.

Introduction: COVID-19 requires an all-inclusive task sharing/shifting approach by clinical professions in order to stem the tide of the pandemic. Physiotherapists have, therefore, potential for front line duties to COVID-19 patients as part of their traditional role in acute care for patients with respiratory complications. This study assessed the knowledge, attitude, and willingness of physiotherapists to care for patients with COVID-19 at the onset of the pandemic. Method: An electronic (WhatsApp) survey of 210 licenced physiotherapists was conducted from March 2020 to July 2020 using an adapted questionnaire from a previous validated tool. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The level of statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: The physiotherapists displayed a high level of awareness (99.0%) about COVID-19, and the social media (96.2%), especially WhatsApp (74.8%), was the main source of information on COVID-19. 28.6% of the respondents had a sufficient level of knowledge of COVID-19. The knowledge about COVID-19 was significantly influenced by educational qualifications (p = 0.00). Also, 77.1%, 74.8% and 87.1% of the respondents werewilling to provide care for patients with COVID-19, be part of front-line care team, and care for COVID-19 survivors, respectively. Conclusion: Nigerian physiotherapists displayed an appreciable level of knowledge of COVID-19 at the onset of the pandemic. The surveyed physiotherapists were also willing to provide care for COVID-19 patients and survivors, as well as to be part of the COVID-19 front-line care team for.

Introduction and aim. Vasectomy was introduced in India in 1992 and is the most effective, simple, and safe permanent method of contraception yet its use is very limited among the population. The study’s objectives were to assess the knowledge, attitude, and perception towards vasectomy and the barriers to adoption among married men in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Material and methods. A cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted on married male attendants of patients and data were collected on sociodemographic details, knowledge regarding vasectomy, their attitude and perceptions towards vasectomy, and their intention of using vasectomy in the future. Results. Out of 300 participants, 258 (86%) participants have heard of vasectomy as a contraceptive method, and only one participant has undergone vasectomy. The majority (285; 95%) of the participants agreed that family planning is also a responsibility of males while nearly two-third (185; 61.7%) of them were not willing to undergo vasectomy in the future. Procedure-related factors, post-procedure-related factors, social factors, availability of alternate contraceptive methods, and preference for tubectomy were the barriers to the adoption of vasectomy. Conclusion. There is a need to provide correct information and counseling about vasectomy and non-scalpel vasectomy to eligible couples to increase the acceptance of vasectomy as a safe, effective, and cheaper method of contraception.

Introduction and aim. Although increasing vaccination rates among healthcare workers (HCWs) is crucial for protecting their own health and preventing the spread of infections to patients, vaccination rates remain low. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of healthcare workers concerning seasonal influenza vaccination in a training and research hospital in Türkiye. Material and methods. This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 364 healthcare workers working in a training and research hospital in Ankara, Türkiye. A face-to-face questionnaire was completed by selected participants that included questions about their sociodemographic characteristics, receiving seasonal influenza vaccination, reasons for not receiving vaccination, attitudes and behavior towards seasonal influenza vaccination recommendations for their surroundings, knowledge of who should get the vaccine, and their immunization history. Results. Among the participants, 58.5% stated that they had never received an influenza vaccination, 35.7% mentioned not receiving the regular influenza vaccination, and only 5.8% reported receiving the influenza vaccination regularly every year. Reasons for not getting vaccinated included not trusting the influenza vaccine’s protection (60.1%), not believing they are in the risk group (38.9%), and not finding a suitable time to get vaccinated (36.1%). A total of 57.1% of the healthcare workers recommended the influenza vaccine for their surroundings. Conclusion. Influenza vaccination rates among healthcare workers are quite low. To maximize influenza vaccine uptake, awareness programs are needed to correct the misconceptions health care workers have about the vaccine, and diverse strategies should be implemented to encourage them to get vaccinated, thereby promoting influenza vaccination.

Background. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a product in the manufacture of Bis-GMA, which is commonly used in dentistry, and is known to have a number of adverse effects. Objectives. The aim of this study is to evaluate to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice based on exposure and handling of BPA containing materials among dental surgeons for better understanding about the level of care rendered to the patients. Material and methods. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 400 dental surgeons in Southern India. The questionnaire consisted of 20 objective type questions out of which ten questions assessed knowledge and five questions assessed the attitude and five questions to understand the practice related measures taken by the dentist. The data collected were analysed using SPSS version 23. Results. A total of 402 responses were collected for this online questionnaire survey over a period of 2 months. It was found that females showed higher knowledge and attitude towards exposure to BPA which was statistically significant when compared to males. It showed that dentists with more than 20 years of practice had a higher level of knowledge. Though most of the groups agreed fairly on safety practice to be undertaken related to BPA exposure in their clinics, the ones with experience more than 20 years displayed the least positive attitude and dentists with 6-10 years of practice had the least positive behaviour among all. Conclusions. In spite of having a good knowledge regarding the harmful effects of BPA, dental surgeons are not very cautious while using materials containing them on a regular basis. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the awareness with the help of Continuing Dental Education programs or proper instructions on the packaging.

Educational assessment can be a powerful mechanism in enhancing classroom instructions and student performance. Its effectiveness relies on the beliefs and knowledge of those teachers who apply it daily on a classroom. This study explored attitudes, competence, knowledge, and practices of teachers about educational assessment. In this study participants were 80 in-service teachers teaching various subject areas in secondary and higher secondary level selected from government and private secondary schools and higher secondary colleges in Chittagong city. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. Results revealed that although teachers held a favorable attitude towards and perceived themselves as being competent in educational assessment, they demonstrated a low level of knowledge in educational assessment. Teachers used a variety of assessments in the classroom, primarily for assigning grades and motivating students to learn, with some variations by gender, grade level, and subject area. Teaching load and teaching experience accounted for some of the variations in teachers’ educational assessment practices. Implications for professional developments of teachers in educational assessment as well as recommendations for future research were discussed in this study.

Objectives: To evaluate the level of knowledge of, to investigate the attitudes toward, and to determine the emphasis given to the national prevalence of HBV/HCV infections among healthcare professionals. Materials and Methods: A total of 206 healthcare professionals (mean (SD) age: 37.0 (6.3) years; 86.9% – females) including medical laboratory technicians (N = 54) and nurses (N = 152) employed in the Antalya Training and Research Hospital, Antalya, Turkey. Laboratory (N = 53), operating room (N = 41) and in-patient clinic (N = 112) staff were included in this descriptive study. A 33-questionnaire composed of questions related to their level of knowledge and attitudes toward HBV/HCV infections, the sources of their knowledge of HBV/HCV infections and the emphasis given to the national and global importance of the diseases was administered via a face–to-face interview method with each subject; participation was volunteer based. Results: The participants working in the in-patient clinic (18.0 (3.2)) had the highest mean (SD) knowledge level compared to the laboratory (16.4 (3.1), p < 0.05) and operating room (17.0 (2.8), p < 0.05) staff. The participants from the in-patient clinic (44.6%) had a more advanced level of knowledge compared to the participants working in the laboratory (27.8%, p < 0.05) and the operating room (30.0%, p < 0.05). Most of the subjects (60.7%) had education concerning HBV/HCV infections in the past. There was no signifi cant difference between the hospital units in terms of the attitudes of healthcare workers (HCWs) toward HBV/HCV infections and the level of education concerning them. Conclusions: Our fi ndings revealed a moderate level of knowledge in most HCWs, regardless of their exposure to risk. While the highest knowledge scores and vaccination rates were noted among the in-patient clinic staff, there was no signifi cant difference between the hospital units in terms of the attitudes of HCWs towards a patient or a colleague with an HBV/HCV infection.

Objective. This study examined associations between socio-demographic characteristics and knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to COVID-19 among healthcare workers in Bangkok, Thailand. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional online survey was distributed among healthcare workers in Bangkok, Thailand from July - August 2021. Results. A total of 637 responses were received. Most participants were clinical workers (68.4%), and nearly half (47.3%) had been at risk of infection with COVID-19 (ever screening test). Binary logistic regression analysis found associations between high knowledge scores and the 26–35-year age group (OR=1.776-1.562, 95%CI 1.021–2.853), having a bachelor’s degree or higher (OR=1.672, 95%CI 1.058–2.644), and clinical workers (OR=1.784, 95CI% 1.188–2.678). The 36 year and above age group was associated with higher attitude scores (OR=2.406, 95%CI 1.567–3.695). Higher practice scores were associated with females (OR=1.913, 95%CI 1.057–3.464), and clinical workers (OR=1.903, 95CI% 1.170–3.095). Correlation analysis found a positive correlation between practice scores and knowledge (r=0.322, p <0.001) and attitudes (r=0.263, p <0.001). Conclusion. Although healthcare workers demonstrated overall high knowledge, attitude, and practice scores, this study identified several factors that influence KAP. This study can guide public health strategies regarding healthcare workers during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand.

Objectives: Several occupations in developing countries lag behind in ensuring the safety of their workers in occupational settings. Lack of implementation of safety guidelines at workplaces can expose workers to health risks. In Pakistan, barbers are one of the un-regulated occupational groups. Low literacy, increased frequency of direct skin contact and blade/razors use can expose barbers to body fluids including blood of the customers. We conducted this study in order to determine hepatitis B virus (HBV) prevalence among barbers and their knowledge, attitude and practices in a peri-urban district of Sindh. Material and Methods: Three hundred eighty-five barbers from the Sukkur district were interviewed using a structured questionnaire. Blood samples were collected and tested for HBsAg. A scale was built to determine the proportions of responses to knowledge, attitude and practice items. Results: The prevalence of HBV among barbers was 2.1%. The barbers’ knowledge on HBV and its transmission routes was poor. The response to attitude items was good, except that only 35.1% of the participants agreed to have vaccination against HBV. The overall performance on the knowledge and practice scales was poor compared to the attitude scale on which 80% of the barbers performed well. Conclusion: The prevalence of HBV among barbers was lower compared to the available national figures for the prevalence among the general population.

This article investigates factors influencing knowledge of renewable energy types among 200 residents of 13 villages in Lubelskie province using survey data collected in 2013. Survey summary responses indicate that solar and wind energy were best known and biofuels the least known among five energy types considered in the questionnaire. Factors associated with varying degrees of renewable energy sources were identified using the multivariate ordered probit approach. The largest change in probability that a respondent’s self-assessed knowledge level fell into a specific category was associated with being a farmer, viewing the subject matter of the survey as important, having high income, being from a large household and, being married.
Opis:
Background: Studies suggest that young adulthood is a critical time for physical exercise interventions. This study assessed knowledge, attitude and participation in physical exercise by students of privately owned secondary schools in Ibadan North East Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Materials and methods: This study is a cross sectional survey. Informed consent was obtained from the schools and individual participants. Multi-stage sampling technique was used in selecting participants for the study. Each participant was guided in completing the questionnaire. Data on knowledge, attitude and participation in physical exercise was obtained from students. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentages and chi square. Results: Five hundred and sixty questionnaires were administered to respondents and 520 (92.9%) were completed and returned. Out of the 520 participants 258 (49.62%) were males and 262 (50.38%) were females. Out of 520 participants, 97.88% had good knowledge about physical exercise (49.23% males and 48.65% females). Out of 520 participants, 410 (78.85%) had good attitude towards physical exercise (40.96% males and 37.89% females). Male participants were better in knowledge and attitude than female participants. Participation in physical exercise was poor because participants were not putting in enough time in physical exercise. Conclusions: Boys had better knowledge about physical exercise and better attitude to physical exercise than girls. Girls actually participate more in physical exercise, though both boys and girls were not putting in enough time in participating in physical exercise. School curriculum that will encourage physical exercise should be adopted with more time allocated for physical exercises.
Wstęp: Badania sugerują, że młoda dorosłość jest krytycznym momentem dla interwencji fizycznych. W badaniu oceniano wiedzę, nastawienie i uczestnictwo w ćwiczeniach fizycznych uczniów prywatnych szkół średnich w Ibadan North East Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Dane analizowano stosując częstotliwość, procenty i test chi2. Wyniki: Respondentom rozdano pięćset sześćdziesiąt kwestionariuszy, a 520 (92,9%) wypełniono i zwrócono. Z 520 uczestników 258 (49,62%) to mężczyźni, a 262 (50,38%) to kobiety. Spośród 520 uczestników 97,88% miało dobrą wiedzę na temat ćwiczeń fizycznych (49,23% mężczyzn i 48,65% kobiet). Z 520 uczestników 410 (78,85%) miało dobre nastawienie do ćwiczeń fizycznych (40,96% mężczyzn i 37,89% kobiet). Uczestnicy płci męskiej mieli lepszą wiedzę i postawę niż uczestnicy płci żeńskiej.
