Opis:
The studies were carried out during the period April 1982 - July 1984. The statistical analysis of the dependence between the temperature and the intensity of occurrence of 4 species of the genus Dactylogyrus in bream (Abramis brama L.) was made in two variants (tab. 1, 2). In both cascs correlation coefficients between the variables, as well as regression coefficients, estimating the linear dependence according to the equation: y = a±bx (cf. fig. 1a-d). The correlation coefficient was verified using the t Student test. The statistical analysis has not revealed any statistically significant dependence between mean month temperatures during the whole investigation period, and the intensity of occurrence of particular of the genus Dactylogyrus species. However, a highly significant (+ +) and significant (+) correlation has been found between the temperature differences in consecutive months of investigations, and the intensity of occurrence of particular species. This confirms the previous suggestion that the studied species of the genus Dactylogyrus react to the temperature changes in the environment. In agreement with calculated coefficients, the higher the temperature difference within a short period, the greater the changes of the density in the population. The density of all the species was the highest in March when the temperature increased by ca. 4°C within a month, and the lowest in October or November at the temperature decrease by ca. 4.5°C. It can be assumed that a rapid temperature increase enhances the reproductive activity of the parasites and their expansion to the hosts, white a rapid decrease inhibits their reproduction and possibly increases also the mortality of adult individuals.

Opis:
Using the method of parasitological section and staining method H-E for histopathological sections, the author examined 281 indivuals of stickleback G. aculeatus (L.) during the years 1982-1985. In 65 individuals (lenght 2.5-6.0 cm) the presence of unsporulated oocysts of Eimeria aculeati Jastrzębski, 1984 in the intestine was found, in 27 fish of similar lenght - the presence of unsporulated oocysts of Eimeria żarnowskii Jastrzębski, 1982. Species was determined after sporulation of the oocysts in aquarium water, at 20°c. In the liver of two sticklebacks, 8.5 and 9.0 cm in lenght, numerous focuses with the oocysts of Eimeria gasterostei (Thélohan, 1890) Doflein, 1909 were found. In drying fresh smears of the liver a longitudinal, circumferential suture on the sporocyst wall was visible (fig. 1, 2) which made the authors revise the species and determine it as Goussia (Goussia) gasterostei (Thélohan, 1890) - s. Eimeria gasterostei (Thélohan, 1890) Doflein, 1909. G. gasterostei is a parasite new for Poland. Histopathological studies revealed the existence of intraplasmic meronts in the life cycle of E. aculeati, and these were classified by the authors in the following groups: 6-merozoit, 12-merozoit and 22-merozoit and are supposed to represent at least three generations of merogony. It was found that in the development of Eimeria żarnowskii the trophozoites and gamonts parasitise on the surface of the intestine epithelium (fig. 5, 6). In 19 of 265 fish two coccidia were found in the intestine: E. aculeati and E. żarnowskii. The extensity of the infection during the years 1982-85 is presented in table 1. The development forms of the parasites are presented in figs. 1-8.

Opis:
Elaphostrongylus cervi is a parasite of skeletal muscles and central nervous system of wild and farm red deer in Europe and Asia. Numerous species of terrestrial snails can be its intermediate hosts. Considering the fact that invasive larvae of E. cervi are released by deer to the external environment in huge numbers, fishes and birds can be accidentally infect by them. In this study the development of larvae E. cervi in those nonspecific hosts was discussed. It was determined that invasive larvae of E. cervi in the digestive tract of fish do not penetrate the intestinal wall, do not develop any further, and are probably digested. Similarly, those larvae given to chicken are also incapable of breaking the gut barrier and are digested. In all infected animals, the phenomenon of parathenia has not been observed and the meat of the animals studied poses not threat to humans.

Opis:
The author presents the results of the morphologkal studies on the lens of fish infected experimentally and in a natural way (in the river Vistula near Warsaw) with the metacercariae of both flukes. Basing on this and on the literature data a detailed picture of the pathological changes in the eye lens of infected fish has been constructed, the three development stages being accepted as described by other authors. The mechanisms of the influence of the metacercariae on the eye lens are presented. A particular attention has been paid to the significance of the ontogenetic development and the structure of the eye lens, not considered before, and especially to the fissure in the lens (Fig.). The latter, as a result of the metacercariae feeding on the lens material and distend it mechanically as they grow, is transformed into a chamber filled with a loosened lens material and the parasites. This leads to a deglutination of the lens capsule (sometimes on its entire perimeter) from the internal material. A symptom characteristic of the diplostomiasis in Missgurnus fossilis, observed by the author, consisted in fine folding of the capsule. Other symptoms were: besides the damage of the lens surface, changes in its size, deformations, loosening and sometimes breaking, always on the side of the enlarged fissure. Besides, the author confirms the results of observations of other authors and expresses an opinion that the picture of the pathological changes and the degree of vision impairment is influenced by such factors as the density and distribution (signly or in aggregations) of the metacercariae in the lens, and the place of their penetration and the host species.

As the anisakiasis is considered a food-borne disease, the necessity of a proper diagnosis of human anisakiasis is accompanied by the proper diagnosis of fish anisakiasis, because the invaded fish meat may represent a potential source of Anisakis invasion for human. The authoress presents some problems of the diagnosis of human anisakiasis and the attempts of the development of efficient diagnostic methods for detecting fish anisakiasis. In view of the difficulties in parasitological diagnosis of human anisakiasis and the diagnosis based on the clinical findings, serodiagnosis would be potentially of a great value. From the available literature it appears, however that serological tests have not yielded a practical and totally reliable method for routine application. Just recently Desowitz et al., 1985 reported that radioallergosorbent test could serve as a useful techuiqne for the serodiagnosis of human anisakiasis. Their investigations needed however further confirmation on a greater group of the individuals with chronic anisakiasis. Current methods of identification of the Anisakis larvae based on the morphological features are difficult and time consuming. Biochemical analysis to identify unique parasite constituents (like ascaroides in Ascaris) are not successful. Enzyme linked immuno assay procedure have been developed, but the interference by the other substances in fish flesh could not be eliminated. Therefore the goal of the investigations presented recently (Boczoń and Bier, 1986) was to develop biochemical techniques for detecing Anisakis in seafood looking for a metabolic changes that occur in invaded fish host. Like in trichinellosis or fasciolosis the uncoupling of the invaded by Anisakis fish muscle mitochondria was observed. Dependent on the intensity of invasion there is a significant increase of mitochondrial Mg++ - stimulated ATP-ase activity in fish muscle mitochondria isolated from different species invaded by Anisakinae nematodes. This activity can be used to estimate the number of nematodes per market fish. Anisakis simplex excretory-secretory products, which in Boczoń and Bier in vitro experiments also caused the mitochondrial ATP-ase activity in coupled rat mitochondria to increase, were found to be a potent inhibitors of rodent lymphocyte blast transformation (Raybourne et al., 1983) and may contain components which are active in in vitro tests for potential tumor promoters (Raybourne, personal communication).

A brief description of the fish condition indices is provided together with proper formulae, and examples of their application in parasitological studies. Author argues that, since some indices react comparatively slowly upon parasite-induced stress, and some respond quite rapidly, a whole set of indices should be used in order to provide researchers with complete picture of fish-parasite interactions.

Opis:
Muscles of the bream Abramis brama (L.) infected and not infected with plerocercoids of L. intestinalis, as well as the plerocercoids constituted the material. In the studied material the content of water, proteins (biuret method), hydrocarbons (antron method) and lipids (Folch's method), as well as the qualitative lipid composition (thin layer chromatography on silicagel) were determined. The muscles of infected fish showed a slightly higher (by 1.6% fresh weight) water content and a slightly lower content of proteins, hydrocarbons and lipids (by 0.6%, 0.03% and 0.6°/o respectively). In the body of the plerocercoids the content of water and proteins was lower than in the host muscles (by 11% and 8% respectively), as well as that of lipids (by 2.6% and 2.7%), while the hydrocarbon content was much higher (16.7% for the plerocercoids, 0.06% for the host). It is interesting to note the high phospholipid content (31.2°/o) in the lipid pool of the plerocercoids, along with the simultaneous decrease of this fraction in the respective pool of infected bream. Besides, in the group of neutral lipids of the muscular tissue of the bream triglycerides form a significant part. The slight changes in the chemical composition of the muscles of infected fish, as compared with the relatively high level of their energy reserves (as triglycerides), suggest that the negative effect of the parasite on the physiological condition of its host is rather limited.
