Opis:
The author discusses the reception of Olga Tokarczuk’s works in Romania on the basis of translations, critical essays and radio and press interviews. Olga Tokarczuk is the best-known contemporary writer from Central Europe in Romania, thanks to numerous translations (almost all of her novels have been translated into Romanian, except The Books of Jacob, due to be published next year). An important role in the dissemination of her works has been played by the Polirom publishing house in Iași, which published a special series devoted to Tokarczuk. The quality of the translations of the Polish novelist’s texts is also high. Particular credit for this goes to Cristina Godun, a specialist in Polish Studies, who has managed to render the peculiarities of Tokarczuk’s narrative and style in Romanian. The paper also briefly discusses the difficulties encountered during the translation of Tokarczuk’s texts.

The purpose of this article is to examine the influence of surrealistic painting on contemporary advertising, taking into consideration the differences in use of surrealistic references on three levels of literalness: advertisement citing specific, surrealistic images, advertisement made of mosaic of various borrowings from surrealistic painting, finally advertisement created in a surrealistic manner, considered as a type of post-surrealistic masterpiece. To begin with theoretical issues connected with postmodern culture of image, the phenomena of contemporary advertisement and its intertextual relations with art, author tries to find answers on following questions: Why surrealism became so attractive material for advertisement? Is it possible, to acknowledge advertisement profiting from surrealistic painting, as an example of postmodern statement? Is it valid, basing on its example, to treat about the type of transgression in contemporary advertisement? The conclusions of this analysis include: purpose and function of use of surrealism in advertisement, the role of visual layer, disappearance of persuasive function to the benefit of strengthening the esthetic function and inscribing advertisement into postmodern paradigm of culture.

Contemporary Russian drama is situated in a dialogue with literary and more precisely dramatic tradition. For example, this thesis clearly confirms a comedy by Igor Shpric On the bottom. The text at the level of its title refers to Maxim Gorky's play  The Lower Depths.  Shpric’s comedy parodies this work by presentingGorky's characters in the social and cultural context of contemporary reality. The main purpose of the paper is the intertextual analysis and interpretation of ironic Shpric’s comedy as the transcontextualization of language, poetics, themes, plot and characters ofGorky's text.

From the moment of his literary debut in 1989, Michele Mari is considered to be the representative of classic tendencies in contemporary Italian literature. One of the most noticeable characteristics of his writing is the presence of autobiographic elements which appear in all his works with different intensity, but also the archaization of style and language, literary references and metaliterary reflexions. This article aims at showing how the 1992 novel La stiva e l’abisso connects two of those aspects of Mari’s writing: intertextuality and literary references to adventure novel genre, as well as it reflects on the role and value of the literature for the contemporary people. It analyses basic narrative instances, that is the narrator, narrative structure, place and time of events, in order to show how they result in metaliterary reflexion.

In his "Encyklopedia duszy rosyjskiej" Wiktor Jerofiejew performs a brutal vivisection of his nation’s cultural memory. The key concepts of history, power, nation, and fatherland gain a new erudite interpretation. Consistent in uncovering totalitarian discourse, Jerofiejew demythologizes opinions and prejudices, deconstructs ideas, concepts and attitudes. While bringing to life the portrait of Russian mentality and their national character, he proposes hierarchy but never accepts taboos. Consequently, "Encyklopedia" does not appeal to popular tastes. It is a multifaceted “miniature gallery”, a bitter diagnosis of the essence of Russianness and the condition of Russian culture.

Opis:
The paper is an attempt to investigate the possibilities and limitations connected with the unreflective adaptation of the concept of intertexuality, worked out by theoreticians of literature, to musicological research. The author is especially interested in assessing in that sense the concept of the relationships between literary styles proposed by Stanisław Balbus in the book Between Styles, which is currently the source of inspiration for many Polish musicologists. The starting point of the reflection is recalling the doubts addressed by Tibor Kneif already in the 1970s, as far as the reasonableness of using the achievements of semiotics by musicologists is concerned. Going further, the author enters into discussion with some Polish musicologists who use the proposals of intertextuality researchers, e.g. Balbus’, quite too hastily, and examines the examples of sub-mitting by them as intertextual musical works in which one can not find in fact any intertextual relations. The author describes as unreasonable the procedure of presenting the musical works based on borrowings as especially worthy in the sense of their connection with the tradition. The danger lies here in the fact of how easily objective analysis can be replaced with ideology. The author also reminds that most of extra-textual relationships in musical works can be describedusing the traditional tools of musicological analysis — aimed at searching the autonomous sense of music.

Since the beginning of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed not only many aspects of everyday life, but also the lexical systems of languages. Polish and Russian have been enriched with numerous derivatives, loan words, as well as new collocations pretending to become neophrasemes. The linguistic image of the pandemic consists of miscellaneous metaphorical expressions picturing the reality in terms of war, sports’ competitions or natural disasters. New Polish and Russian collocations present different problems of the pandemic crisis and the diverse attitude of individuals and social groups to its threat to public health and the measures taken by governments and international institutions. Furthermore, the analyzed pandemic discourse contains many examples of intertextuality sensu lato. These are allusions to literary texts, music, film, and history. The image of the pandemic in Polish and Russian has been complemented by means of idiomatic transformations, humorous expressions and jokes, which are natural and spontaneous answers to long-lasting fear, anxiety and frustration.

„My name is Nobody” — says Odysseus in Homer’s epic and these words deliver him from death. On the one hand, both the name and the very act of speech constitute a proof of existence of the speaker, on the other hand, however, its existence is undermined by the negation implied by the very notion of „nobody”. Unclear ontological/referential connotations of „nobody” evoke textual effects that are based on the notions of indeterminacy and self-reference — two basic constituents of every figure of thought referred to as paradox. Thus, it seems hardly surprising that Kafka explores the potentiality of this life-saving wordplay. The theme of nobody is deeply rooted in the binary logic, but, also, attempts to exceed its limits. Exceeding these limits is encouraged in every excursion to Kafka’s realm.

Opis:
Śpiew bowiem dominuje w drugiej zwrotce („Śpiewała do niego, mówiła do niego”), natomiast rybak pogrąża się w odmętach morza dopiero w czwartej zwrotce, gdzie dominuje perswazja słowna („Mówiła do niego, śpiewała do niego”).
Texts are transcendental in a at least two ways. On one hand, they are transcendental through the language – the substance of texts – which by constituting diachronic relationships and functioning in synchrony transcend – to use Karl Jaspers’ term – past reality in the form of the then existing signs and their meanings into future then unknown from that perspective, and thus also the present as known to us. On the other hand, texts interact with each other and as it were, create hypertexts in time and space. There also exists a third dimension – the author and the reader (each independently) whom the text allows, to quote Gerhard Kurz, to go ‘beyond oneself’ because only then we experience the need to return to ‘one’s own I’, rejecting on the way a successive mask (Greek and Latin persona). In this article the concept is illustrated in the context of Franz Kafka’s texts. Among the multitude of themes presented, let us limit ourselves to the topos of the Sirens who lured sailors with their singing. In Kafka’s works the Sirens no longer sing, so Odysseus need not have asked to have his ears blocked with wax. At that point Kafka only completed the process of change, for already earlier in German literature the singing had grown quieter and quieter. Thus in Heine’s wellknown song “Loreley” the poet is no longer convinced about the effectiveness of the mermaid’s singing – he only wishes to believe in it: “I think that the waves will devour the boatman and the boat as one” (as translated by A.Z. Foreman). Because in times of nihilism the singing – and art in general – had lost their power. In Goethe’s “Fisherman” the mermaid still triumphs, but not because of her singing. Her song dominates in the second verse (“She sang to him, she spoke to him” as translated by John Storer Cobb), but the fisherman immerses himself in the abyss of the sea only in the fourth verse which is dominated by verbal persuasion (“She spoke to him, she sang to him”). This inversion – nota bene lacking in the Polish translation by Hanna Januszewska in “Dzieła wybrane” J.W. Goethe (PIW 1983) – could not have been accidental: it symbolizes the reversed image typical of a mirror reflection – in reality the fisherman had seen his own reflection in the water and mistook it for the image of a mermaid. His death in the abyss of the sea was a price paid for lack of selfknowledge. It was not without reason that the inscription on the Temple of Apollo in Delphi read: “Γνῶθι σεαυτόν (Gnothi seauton) – Know thyself!”.

Opis:
The transfer of so-called traditional journalistic genres to the Internet usually results in significant changes to their distinctive features. A good example is the Internet report, which simultaneously uses various forms of communication with recipients (e.g. text, film, image) and becomes both multimedia and intertextual material, which results in its hypertextual character. Similarly to any hypertext, because it often has a multimodal structure, it is also a kind of semi-finished product, as it only becomes a carrier of meanings and a complete work during its reception. As a result, extra tasks are set for the recipients. They must even more fully than in the case of classic literature or literary works participate in the process of decoding the meaning and become even more co-creators of the sense of the work that is being read. This article aims to demonstrate the essential features of how reports function on the Internet by referring to two specific materials that fall within the definition of the Internet report. Apart from this, the text attempts to confront the new variety of reporting with selected literary theories, such as the concept of “the death of the author” by Roland Barthes. Lastly, the article aims to cover the characteristics of the different types of recipients of hypertext forms of reporting functioning in an Internet environment.

It is a difficult and full of contradictions dialogue, that used to be interpreted in relation to the uneasy history of the 20th century. The author of the article does not attempt to weaken the role of historical events in Miłosz’s spiritual evolution; she underlines, however, such aspects of his dialogue with Mickiewicz that reveal the deepest similarities and are not subjected to changeable interests. That is how Miłosz’s hesitations can be understood, as his disputes with Mickiewicz are time-bound, but both poets meet also in timeless sphere.

This process is demonstrated on the example of the chosen postmodern fables written by Grzegorz Kasdepke, Marta Guśniowska, Agnieszka Suchowierska.

Opis:
From among around four hundred examples taken from the Bible, mythology and history, which in Sebastian Brant’s The Ship of Fools are designed to instruct and caution, more than twenty come from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Brant does not make references to Ovid’s work and he mentions the poet only once, as the author of Ars amatoria (buler kunst), which brought Ovid nothing but misfortune. Most of them appear in Chapter XIII On Seduction (Von buolschaft) and single ones in Chapters: XXVI, LIII, LX, LXIV and LXVII. The references are allusive and abridged, they concern pathetic consequences of wicked or rash love, jealousy and hatred as well as self-loving and foolhardy imprudence. They stand as codes, which can not be deciphered without knowing the source and it implies that Brant either assumes the reader has the required knowledge or appeals to gain it. It is also possible that he refers to common at that time didactic modifications of Metamorphoses. Problematic and often tragic illustration of human fortunes in Ovid’s work is reduced in Brant’s satire to parenetic formula, which intrigues and is expressed with vivid and crude language. The most explicit example of dissonance between Brant’s and Ovid’s intention is a truly clown like character − Marsyas, who with obstinacy plays bagpipes, a clownish instrument, whereas in Metamorphoses he enraptured people playing his aulos and his death as martyr is mourned by not only nymphs and shepherds, but also by nature. The rights of the genre, in this case of moral satire, proved to be stronger than philosophical meaning of mythological message.
