    The article deals with the phenomenon of intercultural communication. Presented are the results of the survey method aimed at analysing the level of formation of intercultural competence of Ukrainian VSPU students living abroad. Differences and similarities in the students’ intercultural communication experience have been revealed by comparison. The ranking method was used to classify the obtained data when analysing the students’ life experiences abroad. The research results were presented graphically in charts and tables using descriptive statistics.

    The coexistence of different nations, races i.e. cultures in the same social space that could be a country, a village or even a company is already a fact. Nowadays, not taking into account the tools of intercultural communication may result in damaging every communicative act. We believe that there is a necessity for revising and explaining the concepts related to the subject of intercultural communication from the perspective of foreign language teaching. In this article we will discuss such concepts as: interculturalism, transculturation, acculturation, integration, identity, etc. We will also look into the origin of intercultural communication. All these reflections will bring us closer to the intercultural competence which, in our opinion, students of foreign languages, i.e. intercultural speakers, should possess. In conclusion, we present the main objectives of the Common Frame of Reference for the Languages of the Council of Europe (2002) with regard to intercultural education.

    Purpose – to analyze the impact of intercultural communication on the professional innovative activity, to assess the possibility of developing of the professional competencies to innovative activity through intercultural communication. Methods: hypothetical-deductive method, formalization, generalization, classification, systematization, extrapolation. Results. The bilateral relationship between intercultural communication and innovative activity is grounded. A person, who is more capable of cross-cultural communication, is more capable of innovative activity too, he / she is more opened, flexible, adaptive and creative. It is therefore important to develop, in the professional training of future specialists, the intercultural competence - the ability to cross-cultural contacts: to teach them to recognize cultural diversity not as an obstacle but as a positive diversity, as a source of new potentially useful information. For future professionals of innovative activity, it’s even more important than for others. The process of innovations’ working out often deals with problems of creating something new, of forming of new ideas. And any variety can help, because another person is a treasure trove of new points of view. Intercultural communication can be a source of new ideas, new knowledge and skills, new professional competences, as well as a new channel to promote an innovative product to different target groups.

    W USA, Guo-Ming Chen i William J. Starosta opracowali narzędzia badawcze w postaci Skali Wrażliwości Międzykulturowej do pomiaru wrażliwości międzykulturowej jako głównego wymiaru kompetencji komunikacji międzykulturowej. W Niemczech Wolfgang Fritz, Antje Möllenberg oraz Guo-Ming Chen, na próbie 541 studentów potwierdzili jego trafność, rekomendując je dla populacji Europy Zachodniej. W artykule zaprezentowano polską wersję kwestionariusza do pomiaru wrażliwości międzykulturowej wraz z jego własnościami psychometrycznymi i wynikami analizy normalizacyjnej. Ponadto w opracowaniu przedstawiono podstawy teoretyczne kwestionariusza oraz jego budowę i zasady posługiwania się narzędziem. Polska wersja kwestionariusza (identycznie jak oryginalna) składa się z 24 pozycji testowych zawartych w obrębie pięciu podskal (α-Cronbacha 0,85) oraz spełnia wszystkie warunki tzw. dobroci psychometrycznej testu. Narzędzie pozwala w sposób szybki, trafny i rzetelny dokonywać pomiaru podstawowych czynników wrażliwości międzykulturowej, takich jak: Zaangażowanie w interakcję, Szacunek dla różnic kulturowych, Pewność w interakcji, Przyjemność z interakcji, Uwaga/Pilność w interakcji. Narzędzie może być stosowane przez naukowców i praktyków we wszystkich sytuacjach, w których mamy do czynienia z interakcją w środowiskach zróżnicowanych kulturowo (biznes, edukacja, turystyka itd.). Do artykułu załączono kwestionariusz wraz z kluczem, ułatwiającą praktykom analizę i interpretację uzyskanych wyników.
    Guo-Ming Chen and William J. Starosta have invented a research tool to measure the level of intercultural sensitivity as a major dimension of intercultural communicative competence. The tool is known as The Model of Intercultural Sensitivity. Its accuracy was confirmed in Germany in a study conducted by Wolfgang Fritz, Antje Möllenberg oraz Guo-Ming Chen on a group of 541 students. As a result, the method was recommended for the Western European Societies. The article presents a Polish version of the questionnaire measuring intercultural sensitivity together with its psychometrical properties and the results of normalization analysis. What is more, the theoretical basis of the questionnaire, its structure and conditions of use are also described. The Polish version (just like the original) consists of 24 positions grouped into 5 sub-scales (Cronbach’s α 0,85) and meets all the requirements of the so-called psychometrical accuracy. The test allows one to quickly and precisely measure the basic elements of intercultural sensitivity such as: Engagement in interaction, Attention/Diligence in interaction. The tool can be used by scholars and practitioners in all situations that involve interaction in culturally diversified environments (business, education, tourism etc.) The article includes the questionnaire with the key, which shall make the analysis and interpretation of the results much easier.

    This article is about expressing religiosity. Various factors influence this activity. This article is a reflection how cultural context influences the expression of religious feelings. We discussed also cultural diversity in its external and internal aspects and the issue of inculturation in the context of the spreading of Christianity. The basis of theoretical considerations are opinions of lay missionaries which were given in the form of deepened expert interviews. Their experience concerning this subject was analyzed and commented on from the perspective of intercultural competence which should be manifested by the people who work in different cultural circles, missions included.

    Since the start of the new millennium, research into intercultural communication and intercultural competence has embarked on an open debate on normative orientations for action in situations of intercultural contact. The contribution at hand presents the preliminary results and impressions from a thematic qualitative content analysis of central academic publications on intercultural communication from the past six decades. Earlier utilitarian paradigms on the one side and a growing outreach towards interpretative paradigms from ethnographic research have, of late, steered intercultural communication research into a moral vacuum. Since then, the discipline can be characterized as undergoing a moral turn. As a consequence, future research may face an opportunity of reflecting on its own moral paradigms in order to produce even more precise orientations for action in intercultural contacts

    In the article tolerance is under study as an integral part of intercultural communicative competence which in an era of globalization has become an important factor in formation of a personality capable to challenge constant changes in economic environment and international labor market.     W artykule szczegółowo zanalizowane zostały – z perspektywy podejścia międzykulturowego do nauczania języków obcych – dwie książki autorstwa cudzoziemców poświęcone kulturze polskiej: Berlin-Warszawa-Express. Pociąg do Polski (2013) Steffena Möllera i Jestem Kazu. Japończyk w Polsce (2017) Kazutaki Sasakiego. Autorka uzasadnia, dlaczego tego rodzaju teksty stanowią znakomity materiał do rozwijania kompetencji międzykulturowej na zajęciach języka polskiego jako obcego, której definicję i metody kształtowania przypomina w artykule. Podkreśla, że książki obcokrajowców stwarzają na lekcji możliwość poznawania nie tylko kultury polskiej, ale także kultur reprezentowanych przez autorów tych publikacji, a ponadto pozwalają uczącym się na naturalne wypowiedzi na temat swoich rodzimych kultur w kontekście porównań z kulturą polską. Artykułowi towarzyszą autorskie propozycje ćwiczeń ukierunkowanych na dialog międzykulturowy w procesie nauczania polszczyzny, które oparte zostały na wybranych fragmentach omawianych książek. 
    In the present article, two books on Polish culture written by foreigners are analysed in detail from the point of view of the intercultural approach to teaching foreign languages, namely Berlin-Warszawa-Express. Pociąg do Polski (2013) by Steffen Möller and Jestem Kazu. Japończyk w Polsce (2017) by Kazutaki Sasaki. The author explains why this kind of text constitutes relevant material to develop intercultural competence during classes of Polish as a foreign language. The definition and methods of shaping intercultural competence are recalled in the article. The author emphasizes that books by foreigners create an opportunity to discover not only Polish culture, but also the cultures represented by the authors of the texts discussed. Moreover, they enable students to talk naturally about their own respective cultures in the context of comparisons with Polish culture. The article contains proposals of exercises aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue in the process of teaching Polish as a foreign language, which are based on chosen fragments of the analysed books.

    The paper presents an overview discussion of the conceptualizations of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) formulated by Russian scholars. The conceptions of the ICC are quite diverse as well as terminology used by the scholars. The authors place emphasis on the psychological aspects of the ICC, distinguishing psycho- physiological, personality, socio-psychological and psycho-pedagogical levels of its analysis.

    The main goal of the present study has been to examine implicature comprehension in native and foreign/second language speakers of English from different linguistic backgrounds. The project was inspired by an earlier work of Bouton (1988), whose objective was to measure the influence of cultural background on the ability to grasp implied meanings in English, by comparing native and non-native speakers' performance. A modified digital version of the original multiple-choice test (Bouton 1988) was used to collect the data. Gricean (1989) theory of conversational implicature served as a theoretical framework for the study. The quantitative analysis of the data collected from the speakers of 33 languages was compared against the original results and the scope of the analysis was expanded to incorporate the examination of other factors affecting implicature understanding in native and nonnative languages. The present results corroborate some of the earlier findings and suggest that language competence and cultural background are crucial factors in understanding implicated meanings.

    The paper focuses on presentation skills of future managers in the context of their communication competences. Communication skills can give a job-seeker a significant advantage on the labour market. The research makes significant theoretical and empirical contributions to the process of developing the interpersonal communication skills and competences of the future managers, e.g. the students of management. Genre analysis and action research were applied with the aim of deeper understanding and possible explanation of different aspects of the students' presentation skills on professional topics. The outcome of our study showed that the most problematic areas included stylistic and pragmalinguistic aspects of formal organization of the presentations.
    Artykuł skupia się na umiejętnościach prezentacyjnych przyszłych menedżerów w kontekście ich kompetencji komunikacyjnych. Umiejętności komunikacyjne mogą dać osobom poszukującym pracy znaczną przewagę na rynku pracy. Niniejsze badanie wnosi znaczący teoretyczny i empiryczny wkład w proces rozwijania umiejętności interpersonalnych i kompetencji przyszłych menedżerów, np. studentów zarządzania. W celu pogłębiania wiedzy i możliwości wyjaśnienia różnych aspektów umiejętności prezentacji studentów w kwestiach zawodowych zastosowano analizę gatunkową i badania w działaniu. Wyniki niniejszego badania wykazały, że najbardziej problematyczne obszary obejmują stylistyczne i pragmalingwistyczne aspekty formalnej organizacji prezentacji.
