    Every year, more and more immigrants come to Poland. They settle in our country together with their school-age children. One of the tasks that immigrants and their children face is integration into Polish society. In the case of foreign children, it usually takes the form of integration into the school environment as they have the most frequent contact with the Poles at school. Integration into the school environment involves the inclusion of immigrant students in the social life of the school and simultaneously opening up the entire school community to their presence. Unfortunately, culturally different children encounter many obstacles, which significantly impedes success. These obstacles relate primarily to the lack of knowledge of the Polish language, emotional problems and a negative attitude towards their peers and their parents as well as to the teaching staff.

    The integration of immigrants and refugees (especially since the migration crisis) is at the heart of the world’s socio-political discourse. Acceptance of the arrivals by the receiving societies is nowadays in considerable doubt. The countries of the European Union (especially the so-called old Union) have found themselves at a crossroads. On the one hand, they want to respect their traditions, values such as tolerance and openness to „strangers,” while on the other hand, an alarmingly high percentage of European citizens do not accept the growing number of foreigners (especially those of Muslim origin) within their countries, according to statistical data. The article points out worrying, growing phenomena of racial discrimination, unequal treatment, and exclusion, making it difficult for immigrants and refugees to find themselves in a new reality for them, mainly blocking their integration in the new society.

    The accommodation of children and young people of foreign descent to new life conditions and educational challenges abroad is a process that takes place primarily in the context of social interactions. The aim of the article below is to present selected experiences in terms of integrating schoolchildren of Polish origin in Germany. The author considers the presentation of school space as an integration microcosm of its own to be of particular importance. It is worth noting that the German educational system in the present form often discriminates againsts choolchildren of foreign descent and limits the opportunities for further education. The author’s own empirical verifications served as the research illustration in the text. The verifications, though carried out on a small sample, indicate some timeless trends among young Polish immigrants.

    The aim of the article is to describe the model of development support of immigrants’ social competences in the process of integration with the host society. Referring to the aim of the article, the authors formulated the following research problems: What level of the analyzed social competences do the surveyed immigrants have? What educational and consulting activities should be offered to project participants, i.e. people with low basic skills, corresponding to a level not higher than PRK level 3? What validation actions should be taken towards project participants after the implementation of educational and consulting activities? The theoretical part of the article addresses the concept of social competence and describes its elements. The empirical part presents the methodology and results of the conducted research as well as the conclusions and recommendations. 170 immigrants from Ukraine participated in the study. Most of the respondents had basic social competences. In terms of self-motivation (motivation), it was 94% of the respondents, assertiveness – 81%, self-presentation – 71%, communication – building interpersonal relationships – 95%, stress management / conflict management– 96%, and in terms of functioning in a team (including multicultural one) – 10%.
    Celem artykułu jest opisanie modelu wsparcia rozwoju kompetencji społecznych imigrantów w procesie integracji ze społeczeństwem przyjmującym. W nawiązaniu do celu artykułu, autorki sformułowały następujące problemy badawcze: Jaki poziom analizowanych kompetencji społecznych posiadają badani imigranci? Jakie działania edukacyjno-doradcze należy zaproponować uczestnikom projektu, tj. osobom o niskich umiejętnościach podstawowych, odpowiadających poziomowi nie wyższemu niż 3. poziom PRK? Jakie działania walidacyjne należy podjąć wobec uczestników projektu po realizacji działań edukacyjno-doradczych? W części teoretycznej artykułu wyjaśniono pojęcie kompetencji społecznych i opisano ich elementy. W części empirycznej przedstawiono metodologię i wyniki przeprowadzonych badań oraz wynikające z nich wnioski i zalecenia. W badaniach brało udział 170 imigrantów z Ukrainy. Większość z badanych posiadała kompetencje społeczne na poziomie podstawowym. W zakresie automotywacji (motywacji) było to 94% badanych, asertywności – 81%, autoprezentacji – 71%, komunikacji – budowania relacji interpersonalnych – 95%, zarządzania stresem/ zarządzania konfliktami – 96%, a w zakresie funkcjonowania w zespole (w tym wielokulturowym) – 10%.

    Artykuł stanowi usystematyzowane omówienie problematyki integracji imigrantów w społeczeństwie przyjmującym przy jednoczesnym zwróceniu uwagi na obowiązującą zarówno w Unii Europejskiej, jak i w Polsce politykę integracyjną wobec cudzoziemców. W pierwszej części artykułu ukazano podstawy prawne zaangażowania Unii Europejskiej w dziedzinie integracji cudzoziemców oraz kompetencje Unii do podejmowania działań i regulacji w tym zakresie. Szczególne miejsce w strukturze artykułu stanowi przedstawienie najważniejszych aktów prawa unijnego dotyczących bezpośrednio lub pośrednio kwestii integracji cudzoziemców oraz podejmowanych przez Unię działań w tej dziedzinie. W części końcowej artykułu przeanalizowano problematykę polityki integracyjnej w Polsce oraz próbowano określić konieczne działania w tym zakresie.
    The article pertains the systematized discussion on immigrant integration problems in the society that have accepted them and at the same time pays attention to obligatory policy of the foreigners’ integration both in the European Union and Poland. In the fi rst part of the article law regulations of the European Union’s engagement into the fi eld of foreigners’ integration and the expertise of the EU to make activities and regulations in that area are presented. The presentation of the most important European Union’s law regulations directly or indirectly regarding to the issue of foreigners integration and activities taken by the European Union in that branch constitute the special part of the article. In the last part the integration policy in Poland has been studied in step with the attempt of depicting necessary actions in that area.

    The paper presents the results of a research project carried out in Łódź and the Łódź region under EU grant Diversity Improvement as a Viable Enrichment Resource for Society and Economy. The research was conducted in various institutions dealing with foreigners in Poland and in the region, in enterprises employing immigrants (public, for-profit and not-for-profit), and in voluntary organizations with which such persons are involved.The purpose of the project was to find out if there is an effectively functioning model in Poland and in the region for Third Country Nationals (TCNs) integration, and if any practices have been adopted to support their equal treatment and effective valorisation of their skills, knowledge and competence.The presence of TNCs in the Łódź region is only marginal. They are mostly staying in Łódź and its metropolitan area. Their nationality structure has been found to be similar to that of the country as a whole – the most numerous are immigrants from Ukraine (25% of the total number of immigrants), Belarus and other former socialist countries, and from Asia (Chinese constituting 10% of their total number). The majority of the immigrants are employed in positions which do not require high qualifications. Those staying in the Łódź region are mainly working in manufacturing, construction and trade, depending on their country of origin.In view of the present demographic situation of the aging Polish society and considering external factors such as the war and economic crisis in Ukraine, an increased inflow of TCNs should be expected.
    Artykuł omawia rezultaty badań prowadzonych w Łodzi i regionie łódzkim w ramach grantu UE nt. Diversity Improvement as a Viable Enrichment Resource for Society and Economy. Badania przeprowadzono w różnych instytucjach zajmujących się cudzoziemcami w Polsce i regionie, w przedsiębiorstwach zatrudniających imigrantów (10 przedsiębiorstw – public, profit i non profit) oraz w organizacjach wolontariackich, w których takie osoby działają.Ogólnym celem projektu było sprawdzenie, czy funkcjonuje w Polsce i regionie skuteczny model integracji imigrantów spoza UE, zbadanie czy istnieją praktyki wspierające ich równe traktowanie oraz skuteczna waloryzacja ich umiejętności, wiedzy i kompetencji. Wyniki badań stanowiły podstawę do wskazania co i jak należy poprawić w działaniach wobec imigrantów. Celem niniejszej pracy była prezentacja idei i wyników tego projektu.Jak wykazały badania, obecność imigrantów spoza UE w regionie łódzkim jest marginalna. Cudzoziemcy koncentrowali się głównie w Łodzi i jej obszarze metropolitalnym. Ich struktura narodowościowa okazała się podobna jak w całej Polsce – najliczniej reprezentowani byli przybysze z Ukrainy (25% ogółu imigrantów), Białorusi i innych byłych krajów socjalistycznych oraz z Azji (w tym Chińczycy 10% ogółu). Przeważały osoby zatrudnione na stanowiskach nie wymagających wysokich kwalifikacji. Imigranci przebywający w regionie łódzkim, w zależności od kraju pochodzenia, pracowali głównie w przemyśle wytwórczym, budownictwie i handlu.Wobec aktualnych potrzeb w sytuacji demograficznej starzejącego się społeczeństwa polskiego, jak również takich czynników zewnętrznych, jak np. wojna i kryzys gospodarczy na Ukrainie, spodziewany będzie większy napływ imigrantów spoza UE.Generalnym wnioskiem z badań jest wskazanie, że należy udoskonalić istniejące przepisy prawne oraz stworzyć nowe regulujące w lepszy sposób problem pobytu imigrantów spoza UE, zasad uznawania ich kwalifikacji zawodowych oraz pozyskiwania pracy w Polsce.

    W artykule autor podejmuje problem integracji młodych obcokrajowców tzw. „nowych Włochów” w kontekście chrześcijańskim. Salezjanie włoscy zapoczątkowali nowy rodzaj pracy wychowawczej z nieletnimi imigrantami, którzy przybyli do Italii z różnych stron świata. W pierwszej części artykułu autor wypukla koncepcję i zadania oratorium w kontekście integracji młodych ludzi we wspólnocie chrześcijańskiej. W drugiej, która ma charakter badawczy, zostają przedstawione wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w 2016 roku, których celem było ukazanie specyfiki oddziaływań wychowawczych salezjanów w ich pracy z nieletnimi imigrantami.
    The article discusses the problem of the integration of young foreigners, the so called “new Italians” in the Christian context. Italian Salesians implemented a new style of educational work with adolescents/immigrants who moved to Italy from different parts of the world. The first part of the paper emphasizes that the Oratorio has a clear concept of youth’s integration with the Christian community based on human values. The second part, including empirical studies conducted in 2016, presents the contemporary efforts of the Salesians/secular tutors in their work with young immigrants.

    Kraj Basków, z tradycyjnego obszaru emigracji stał się atrakcyjnym celem dla imigrantów. Jednocześnie mniejszościowy status, trwający wciąż konflikt z Madrytem, dwujęzyczny i wielokulturowy charakter regionu sprawiają, że sytuacja migracyjna przybyszy ma szczególny charakter. Wielu imigrantów często dopiero na miejscu poznaje tę specyfikę, która staje się dla nich integracyjnym wyzwaniem. Czy imigranci mieszkający w Baskijskiej Wspólnocie Autonomicznej odbierani/przedstawiani są przez społeczność miejscową jako kolejne niebezpieczeństwo dla „zagrożonej kultury”? Celem artykułu jest namysł nad charakterem relacji pomiędzy społecznością przybywającą i miejscową w Baskijskiej Wspólnocie Autonomicznej, a zwłaszcza nad sposobem postrzegania imigrantów przez tych ostatnich (w przeszłości i obecnie) i wyzwaniami stojącymi przed baskijską polityką integracyjną.
    Traditionally, the Basque Country used to be a region where people emigrated from , but today it has become an attractive destination for immigrants. At the same time, the minority status of the Basque people, the ongoing conflict with Madrid, the bilingual and multicultural make-up of the region places the incoming migrants in singular circumstances. Many are confronted with that specificity only once they arrive, while integration becomes a genuine challenge. Are immigrants living in the Basque Autonomous Community seen by the local community as another threat to their “endangered culture”? The aim of this article is to consider the nature of the relationship between local community and immigrants in the Basque Autonomous Community, with particular focus on the manner in which the latter are perceived by the Basques (in the past and at present) as well as reflect on the challenges facing Basque integration policy.

    European immigration policy is a complex and dynamic field of science with interdisciplinary profile. It is based on humanitarian rights and international regulations concerning immigration and development of humanity. Unfortunately, the dynamics of migration in global and European scale, especially the inflow of immigrants, (according to ONZ - irregular immigrants) has reached in EU levels which make effective integration impossible. Europe needs immigrants but is unable to assimilate them. The author describes similar situations in EU and in neighbouring countries. Immigration policy focused on securing boarders against illegal immigrants is considered to be inhumane and generates criminal behaviours. Later chance for integration is extremely difficult.

    Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia problem integracji imigrantów w Polsce, który próbowano zbadać za pomocą przeprowadzonych w 2022 roku metodą sondażu diagnostycznego badań, w których wzięło udział 56 imigrantów mieszkających w Krakowie. Aby osiągnąć zamierzony cel badawczy, zapytano badanych m.in. o opinie na temat uczestnictwa w polskich świętach i tradycjach, zapoznawania swoich polskich znajomych ze zwyczajami i tradycjami charakterystycznymi dla swojej kultury, uczestnictwa w polskim życiu kulturalnym (polskie kino, polski teatr, polskie wystawy, koncerty polskich artystów). Z analizy badanych wskaźników wynika, że zdecydowana większość badanych (ok. 70–80%) w wysokim stopniu integruje się ze społeczeństwem przyjmującym. Zdecydowana większość badanych (blisko 90%) twierdziła, że polskich znajomych zapoznaje ze swoją kulturą narodową. 65% badanych twierdziło, że bardzo często bądź często uczestniczy w polskim życiu kulturalnym. Wciąż jednak należy dbać o tę grupę imigrantów, która ma problemy z integracją. Istnieje potrzeba modyfikowania polityki integracji, a także wprowadzania w szerszym zakresie edukacji międzykulturowej do szkół oraz na uczelnie wyższe.        
    This article presents the problem of immigrant integration in Poland, which was investigated in a 2022 diagnostic survey of 56 immigrants living in Krakow. The respondents were asked about their opinions on participation in Polish holidays and traditions, introducing their Polish friends to the customs and traditions of their culture, and participation in Polish cultural life (Polish cinema, Polish theater, Polish exhibitions, and concerts of Polish artists). The analysis of the surveyed indicators shows that the vast majority of the respondents (approx. 70–80%) integrate with the host society to a high degree. The vast majority of the respondents (nearly 90%) claimed that they familiarize their Polish friends with their national culture. Sixty-five percent of the respondents claimed that they participate in Polish cultural life very often or often. However, it is still necessary to take care of this group of immigrants who have problems with integration, so there is a need to modify integration policies, as well as to introduce intercultural education to schools and universities in a wider scope.
