Opis:
Let G be a graph with n vertices and ν(G) be the matching number of G. The inertia of a graph G, In(G) = (n₊,n₋,n₀) is an integer triple specifying the numbers of positive, negative and zero eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix A(G), respectively. Let η(G) = n₀ denote the nullity of G (the multiplicity of the eigenvalue zero of G). It is well known that if G is a tree, then η(G) = n - 2ν(G). Guo et al. [Ji-Ming Guo, Weigen Yan and Yeong-Nan Yeh. On the nullity and the matching number of unicyclic graphs, Linear Algebra and its Applications, 431 (2009), 1293-1301.] proved if G is a unicyclic graph, then η(G) equals n - 2ν(G) - 1, n-2ν(G) or n - 2ν(G) + 2. Barrett et al. determined the inertia sets for trees and graphs with cut vertices. In this paper, we give the nullity of bicyclic graphs ₙ⁺⁺. Furthermore, we determine the inertia set in unicyclic graphs and ₙ⁺⁺, respectively.

Opis:
This study investigates the effects of inertia on the hydroelastic instability of a pressure- -driven Herschel-Bulkley fluid passing through a two-dimensional channel lined with a polymeric coating. The no-viscous hyperelastic polymeric coating is assumed to follow the two-constant Mooney-Rivlin model. In this work, analytical basic solutions are determined for both the polymeric gel and the fluid at very low Reynolds numbers. Next, the basic solutions are subjected to infinitesimally-small, normal-mode perturbations. After eliminating the nonlinear terms, two 4-th order differential equations are obtained. The equations with appropriate boundary conditions are then numerically solved using the shooting method. The results of the solution show that the inertia terms in the perturbed equations destabilize the pressure-driven Herschel-Bulkley fluid flow. The investigation reveals that the elastic parameter has a stabilizing effect on the flow. Also, based on the obtained results, the yield stress, depending on the power-law index, has a stabilizing or destabilizing effect on the flow. Since in this work the inertia terms are included in the pertinent governing equations, therefore, the results of this study are much more realistic and reliable than previous works in which inertia terms were absent. In addition, unlike the previous works, the present study considers both the shear-thinning and shear-thickening types of fluids. Hence, the results of this work embrace all the fluids which obey the Herschel-Bulkley model.

Opis:
Void initiation and growth serve as an important mechanism in ductile failures in metals. Particularly, on the micron-level, the extra hardening effect associated with strain gradient is accounted for by adopting strain gradient elasto-plasticity instead of the conventional plasticity. Effects of inertial, strain gradient hardening and thermal softening are formulated analytically for the case where a spherical void expands under external hydrostatic stress. As demonstrated by our results, the inertia effect firstly tends to hinder but then promotes the void growth. The threshold stress required for rapid void growth is lifted due to extra hardening of strain gradient so that the growth of a smaller void is delayed more remarkably. A considerable thermal softening phenomenon is observed here, which is caused by plastic work during the deformation process. The final void growth rate is mainly related to the maximum loading, which is consistent with the prediction based on the classical plastic theory.

Opis:
In the paper, the flow of a Newtonian type of lubricant in the clearance of a curvilinear bearing is considered. It is assumed that the bearing walls are modelled as smooth and impermeable. In analytical considerations, full inertia of the longitudinal flow and partial inertia of the circumferential flow are taken into account. The equation of motion of the lubricant is solved by the modified method of averaged inertia. A thrust bearing and spherical bearing are considered, for which dimensionless pressure distributions and the bearing capacity are given.

Opis:
The article describes the structure and principles of operation of a drive system used in some low-fl oor trams. The system consists of electric motors, gear transmissions as well as hollow shaft s and four-linkage couplings causing the wheels to move. During the study, a dynamic model was built and the parameters needed to carry out a simulation were determined. NGT6 low-floor tram wagons operated by MPK S.A. Cracow were used as examples of existing vehicles. Due to the lack of available data, part of the work was devoted to determining mass moments of inertia of drive system components using an experimental method of torsional vibrations of a string. In subsequent chapters, a mathematical model was developed and a tram start-up simulation was performed based on specific parameters of the individual system components. Some of the results were presented in the form of graphs.

Opis:
The paper addresses the problem of change inhibitors in textile and apparel companies. The textile and apparel industry is characterized by high dynamics of sector-specific change, the cyclic nature of its processes, and by changing fashion trends. Companies that change more slowly than their environment are characterized by inertia. The objective of the paper is to identify the factors inhibiting restructuring change in textile and apparel enterprises. The first part of the paper discusses the theoretical aspects of change inhibitors, placing them in the context of the theory of the population ecology approach and the notion of organizational inertia, that refer to the issues of restructuring change inhibitors. The second part offers an empirical illustration of change inhibitors. The study employs a quantitative approach. A linear regression equation is used to determine the factors most strongly inhibiting restructuring change in textile and apparel enterprises. The main inhibitors of restructuring change in the textile and apparel industry are identified.

It is shown that a certain Bezout operator provides a bijective correspondence between the solutions of the matrix quadratic equation and factorizatons of a certain matrix polynomial G(lambda) (which is a specification of a Popov-type function) into a product of row and column reduced polynomials. Special attention is paid to the symmetric case, i.e. to the Algebraic Riccati Equation. In particular, it is shown that extremal solutions of such equations correspond to spectral factorizations of G(lambda). The proof of these results depends heavily on a new inertia theorem for matrix polynomials which is also one of the main results in this paper.

Supports are one of the most popular structural elements in engineering. They have a wide range of applications, including in pressure gauge connectors, fixtures for photovoltaic and solar panels, and traffic signs. Supports are also used in highly complex engineering projects such as airplane wings or rotor blades. Monitoring methods for detecting and predicting the condition of support structures have become an important area of research. Structural damage to machines and machine parts can be prevented through early detection of fatigue cracks with the use of non-destructive methods. The paper proposes a method for detecting fatigue cracks along the cross-sectional area of a specimen based on selected parameters of the vibration signal. The diagnostic signal for analyses of specimen cross-sectional area was vibration acceleration, which was described with the use of the following parameters: changes in amplitude and waveform (FFT), RMS amplitude, changes in the amplitude of a vibrating sample, and changes in the phase angle of a vibrating sample. In the test stand, cross-sectional damage was caused by forces of inertia acting on the specimen. The results of the study indicate that all of the analysed parameters can be used to detect the loss of structural continuity (mechanical and fatigue cracks) in an object. An analysis of changes in the amplitude of a vibrating sample was the fastest and most comprehensive source of information.
