    The various efforts to put the idea of humanity on a secure ethical, political, and social base have not succeeded. The various post-humanist and transhumanist programs are inadequate. Our deep-seated suspicion of our deepest selves and motives is understandable in light of the barbarity of the twentieth century, but humanism is not to blame. The thought of Ernst Cassirer holds a framework for a new humanism, once it is rid of certain colonialist, triumphalist, and Eurocentric ideas that distorted Cassirer’s understanding of the European role in creating the problems of civilization, especially its mistake of thinking that science was a progressive symbolic form of culture. I set out the basis of a new humanism based upon not the problem of knowledge, but the problem of genuine self-situating socialty, a personalist point of view.

    Gegenwärtig scheint die "Ende"-Thematik lebendiger denn je, und die Postmoderne bildet Entwürfe vom Ende der Theorie, Kultur, Geschichte sowie auch des Menschen. Das gegenwärtige "Ende"-Gefühl kann mit der Dämmerung des Humanismus und der sie begleitenden Dezentralisierung des Menschen-Subjekts verbunden werden. Heutzutage werden als gleichberechtigt jene Elemente der Welt wahrgenommen, die im Humanismus außer Acht gelassen wurden. Diese Veränderungen lösen bei den Menschen die Furcht davor aus, etwas könne die ihnen gleichgestellte oder eine bessere Position einnehmen, was vom Menschen als die Apokalypse seiner Welt aufgefasst wird. Das Ende des humanistischen Paradigmas bricht neuen gleichberechtigten Ideologien Bahn: dem Transhumanismus, Ökologismus oder Feminismus.
    In modern culture themes of the demise seems to be more alive than ever, and postmodernism creates visions of many parts of the reality: theory, culture, history and human. The multiplicity and diversity of these categories, and their connection  to the aforementioned theme obviously lead to the question about nature of this demise. The aim of the article is to define the notion of the demise in the anthropological perspective. The modern meaning of the demise can be combined with humanism and the related decentralization of human entity. Nowadays, it is the center which is recognized as equal - so are those elements of the world that humanism ignored ought to be touched upon. These changes implement fear in the humanity, based on the impression that something can be on better or on the same position as human is, and it appears to him as his world apocalypse. The end of the humanistic paradigm, opens the way for the emergence of new equivalent ideologies such as transhumanism, environmentalism and feminism.
    Współcześnie tematyka „kresu” wydaje się być bardziej żywa niż kiedykolwiek, a ponowoczesność tworzy wizje zmierzchu właściwie wszystkiego: teorii, kultury, historii, a także człowieka. Współczesne poczucie kresu można łączyć ze zmierzchem humanizmu i związaną z tym decentralizacją człowieka-podmiotu. Obecnie jako równoprawne centrum ujmowane są te elementy świata, które w humanizmie były pomijane. Te zmiany powodują lęk człowieka przed tym, że coś może zająć lepszą lub taką samą pozycję jak on; człowiek odbiera to jako apokalipsę swego świata. Koniec humanistycznego paradygmatu otwiera drogę nowym równoważnym ideologiom, takim jak transhumanizm, ekologizm czy feminizm.

    Żywoty Świętych Piotra Skargi (1579) to tekst, który przez lata postrzegano głównie przez pryzmat realizacji zadań kontrreformacji i krzewienia kultu świętych po Tridentinum. Tymczasem zbiór w rzeczywistości okazuje się wszechstronnym, wysoce perswazyjnym przedsięwzięciem parenetycznym, który w oparciu o transcendentny „czwarty nurt” antropologii filozoficznej i z wykorzystaniem strategii retoryczno-literackich, stał się unikatowym w skali europejskiej skutecznym narzędziem formacji intelektualnej i duchowej mas wiernych w duchu humanizmu potrydenckiego.
    Piotr Skarga’s collection The Lives of the Saints (1579) is a text that for years has been commonly associated with the implementation of counter-reformation tasks and the promotion of the cult of saints after the Tridentinum. In fact, the collection turns out to be a comprehensive, highly persuasive parenetic project, which, based on the transcendent “fourth stream” of philosophical anthropology and the utilization of rhetorical-literary strategies, has become an effective tool, unique on a European scale, of intellectual and spiritual formation of the faithful in the spirit of post-Tridentine humanism.

    Celem mojego artykułu jest próba pokazania, że posthumanizm jest ideologią, która znajduje swoje przedłużenie w perspektywie badawczej nazywanej posthumanistyką. Stosowane przeze mnie pojęcie ideologii nie jest nacechowane negatywnie. Ideologia jest nieodłącznym elementem towarzyszącym życiu społecznemu, a jej iluzoryczny charakter oznacza w gruncie rzeczy tyle, że służy ona człowiekowi jako narzędzie orientowania się w świecie. Ideologia zdaje również sprawę z aktualnych wyzwań, przed którymi stoi społeczeństwo oraz ze sprzeczności, które związane są z tymi problemami. Sprzeczność obecna w posthumanizmie polega w mojej ocenie na tym, że pryncypialnie wyklucza on wszelkie formy humanizmu/antropocentryzmu, ale w praktyce nie może uciec od jakiejś postaci humanizmu i antropocentryzmu. Są one niezbędne, by oddać sprawiedliwość światom innych gatunków zwierząt, uzasadnić porządek etyczny bliski posthumanistom czy móc posługiwać się pojęciem sprawczości.
    My article aims at showing that posthumanism is an ideology that finds its extension in research perspective called posthumanities. The notion of ideology I apply is not a negative one. Ideology is an intrinsic element of social life, and its illusive character essentially means that it serves as a tool for man to orientate in the world. It also gives an account of the current challenges faced by society and of the contradictions related to them. In my opinion, the contradiction embedded in posthumanism is that it excludes in a principled way all kinds of humanism/anthropocentrism, but is virtually unable to escape some form of humanism and anthropocentrism. They are necessary to do justice to the worlds of other animal species, to substantiate the ethical order that posthumanists feel close to, or to be able to use the notion of agency.
