Opis:
There is growing attention to findand popularize untypical forms of therapy which should help patients in hospitals, occupational facilities and clinics. The main aim of the article is to show the differences between horticultural therapy as a form of therapy and work in a garden, which can also provide therapeutic results. Comparison of different determinants was a method to outline that proper understanding of the differences may be beneficialboth for theoreticians and practitioners who use nature in order to improve their patients’ health. However, it is useful for future teachers and could play a role in the teacher education process. As a conclusion, it has been established that source literature scientificreports focus rather on potential recipients or benefitswhich come from this form of therapy, whereas basic differences between gardening and horticultural therapy have been rarely mentioned. Analysis has helped to observe that there are many factors which differentiate therapeutic work in the garden from work in the garden which can bring therapeutic effects. Performing such an analysis seems to be significantin connection with the growing popularity of centers which offer this kind of therapy, and with the emergent dilemmas concerning how it differs from gardening and whether the therapy is worth the money invested in it.

Opis:
Every garden is therapeutic in a way. When we are surrounded by plants, we often do not realise the fact that all our senses perceive the space, composition and its elements. Plants can be used for rela- xation, recreation, rehabilitation, therapy, education and sports. Therapeutic gardens stimulate all the five senses, i.e. the sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. When creating a therapeutic garden, one of the main rules is to design the whole composition, select the programme and its elements so as to minimise the in- tensity of visual stimuli. All the other senses should play the main role. Horticultural therapy requires the application of appropriate architectural and landscaping rules and solutions, such as a specialised adjusted garden programme, spatial composition, appropriate surface and equipment for disabled people, elevated flowerbeds and adequate selection of plants. Vegetation plays an important role in therapeutic gardens, especially in those providing horticultural therapy. Plants should not be treated exclusively as aesthetic (visual) material, but also as elements, components and materials which are widely used in therapies. The- refore, the primary role of vegetation in these gardens is to offer therapeutic properties, which affect the sanitary conditions in a particular environment.

This article is inspired by private research conducted by the author over the past few years. The study involved more than 600 students of WSE UAM in Poznan and WP WSPiA in Poznan. The article describes metaphor of the labyrinth. Labyrinth and its metaphor is known in cultures and religions for more than 4,500 years and is still strongly present in many. The main purpose of this study is to explore and show psychological, cultural and philosophical significance and importance of the labyrinth and its metaphors in the modern world - especially among young adults. The article is also a prelude to a discussion about the use of the metaphor of the labyrinth in therapy by art – especially horticultural therapy.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present the method of horticultural therapy (gardening therapy) and its application in designing green areas using the example of the sensory garden at the “Światło” hospice in Toruń. The issue of horticultural therapy and its use in shaping green areas was raised due to the important role of greenery in human life (e.g. they absorb pollutants, produce oxygen, perform an insulating function) and the growing importance of horticultural therapy in the design of usable areas. The final effect of this research process is the design of a sensory garden based on horticultural therapy. The concept uses selected types of greenery which, through their properties, have a positive effect on the well-being and health of patients and, indirectly, the inhabitants of the entire city.

Opis:
The main purpose of the paper is to present horticultural therapy as a method of work of an occupational therapist; secondly, to reconstruct the linguistic picture of horticultural therapy in the statements of people with intellectual disabilities. Its study in the context of current literature shows how important and full of potential, but not enough widespread, is horticultural therapy as an element of rehabilitation. The conclusions also show that it is a form of activity positively perceived by those who took part in it.
