    The sixtieth anniversary of entering into diplomatic relations between Republic of Poland and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea inclines to draw up a balance sheet. Korea is located far away from Poland, in a very different civilization circle, the neo-Confucian one. It has 5 thousand years of history; the legendary Tangun in a year 2333 B.C. has founded the first Korean state Kodzoson. The history is generally difficult, numerous invasions of grand neighbors (China, Japan). The Korean chronicle compared Korea to a prawn swimming in between of two whales. Such difficult history is also the attribute of Poland. Poland was also a subject of partitions, numerous invasions of the neighbors. Polish and Koreans have common national features: pride, inexorability and independence.

    Historians of historiography who seek new possibilities to research the historiographic phenomena believe that the traditional historiography has also become obsolete in its academic form. Th ey think of methods that would allow building a coexistence of the traditional model of historiographic research, which has been simplifi ed to erudite research and presentation of historians – masters with a concept that respects the dynamics of historic thinking, included within the contexts of a political, ideological, and social epoch. Th e latt er task requires from historians of historiography signifi cantly developed professional competences within the scope of sociology, philosophy, and psychology.

    Article raises the issue of the importance of historical policy, also known as the politics of memory, as a category, which in recent years is the subject of heated debate. This is because, through the tools of historical policy, the authority has the opportunity to shape the expected vision of the state and nation in the international arena. This remains controversial due to the fact that the possibility of an arbitrary silence inconvenient facts and events. The main aim of this article was to show the importance of historical policy as a tool to build the country’s image in the international arena, not evaluating the policy pursued by the authorities. This issue is discussed in a wide range in the pages of various publications and at scientific conferences or debates historians. Analysing the literature and the press reports and official documents of institutions and government agencies have been in the paper a short review of selected policy definitions historical aspects of its tools and its implementation and postulates policy history in the future. Historical policy should be implemented by the Polish state as part of the construction of the position of the State in the international sphere, but mainly as an element of education of the next generations of Poles. I have no doubt that in the international, worldwide, all reasonable state, who understand their needs, and above all, to have a sense of their statehood and dignity, pursue an active policy of history.
    Artykuł podnosi kwestię znaczenia polityki historycznej, nazywanej także polityką pamięci, jako kategorii, która na przestrzeni ostatnich lat stanowi przedmiot burzliwej debaty. Dzieje się tak dlatego, że poprzez narzędzia polityki historycznej, władza ma możliwość kształtowania oczekiwanej wizji państwa i narodu na arenie międzynarodowej. Budzi to kontrowersje ze względu na fakt możliwości arbitralnego przemilczenia niewygodnych faktów i zdarzeń. Zasadniczym celem artykułu było ukazanie znaczenia polityki historycznej jako narzędzia budowy wizerunku państwa na arenie międzynarodowej, nie dokonując oceny prowadzonej przez władze polityki. Zagadnienie to poruszane jest w szerokim zakresie na łamach różnego rodzaju publikacji oraz podczas konferencji naukowych czy debat historyków. Analizując literaturę przedmiotu oraz doniesienia prasowe, oficjalne dokumenty instytucji i urzędów państwowych, dokonano w artykule krótkiego przeglądu wybranych definicji polityki historycznej, jej aspektów i narzędzi jej realizacji oraz postulatów prowadzenia polityki historycznej w przyszłości. Polityka historyczna powinna być realizowana przez polskie państwo nie tylko jako element budowy pozycji tego państwa w przestrzeni międzynarodowej, ale przede wszystkim jako element wychowania kolejnych pokoleń Polaków. Nie mam wątpliwości, że w przestrzeni międzynarodowej, ogólnoświatowej, wszystkie rozsądne państwa, które rozumieją swoje potrzeby, a przede wszystkim, które mają poczucie swojej państwowości i godności, prowadzą aktywną politykę historyczną.

    Podczas negocjacji kairskich trwających od 4 do 7 grudnia 1943 r. Brytyjczycy wspierani przez Amerykanów próbowali przekonać stronę turecką, aby ta 14 lutego 1944 r. udostępniła bazy lotnicze aliantom. Data ta była skorelowana z brytyjskimi przygotowaniami do zajęcia wyspy Rodos w ramach operacji „Hercules”. Przez resztę grudnia i połowę stycznia 1944 r. Brytyjczycy podejmowali próby przekonania rządu w Ankarze o zaakceptowaniu warunków współpracy. Przeprowadzone na początku stycznia konsultacje sztabowe uwidoczniły różnice w postrzeganiu sytuacji wojennej przez obie strony, co ostatecznie doprowadziło do zerwania negocjacji i wstrzymania brytyjskiej pomocy wojskowej dla Turcji. Mimo to rząd brytyjski nie zdecydował się zerwać układu o wzajemnej pomocy z państwem tureckim, a na decyzji tej zaważyły czynniki polityczne i wojskowe niezwiązane bezpośrednio z planami opanowania archipelagu Dodekanezu.
    During the Cairo negotiations (December 4–7, 1942), the British, supported by the Americans, tried to persuade the Turks to make the air bases on their territory available to the Allies on February 14, 1944. This date was correlated with British preparations for attacking Rhodes as part of Operation Hercules. Throughout the rest of December and mid-January 1944, the British tried to convince the Ankara government to accept the terms of cooperation. The staff consultations which proceeded in early January highlighted the differences in the perception of the war situation by both sides, which eventually led to the breakdown of negotiations and the suspension of British military aid to Turkey. Nevertheless, the British government did not decide to break the treaty of mutual aid with the Turkey and this decision was influenced by political and military factors that was not directly related to the plans of capturing the Dodecanese.
