    Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is a fad in the 21st century academic landscape. A number of studies found out that students perceive VLEs positively and that VLEs facilitate learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and provide an avenue for educators to extend a helping hand to their EFL students. Sustaining VLEs is not an easy task as it raises various concerns and challenges, particularly in the domain of EFL learning. This paper reports on the results of a qualitative study aimed to shed light on the stakeholders’ perception towards VLE as well as the significant concerns and challenges encountered by EFL lecturers and their students on their actual use of VLEs in a higher education institution. Furthermore, the study unveiled the practical tips to create efficient and effective VLEs, based on the suggestions of both the EFL students and their lecturers.

    Background This paper presents an overview of a pilot study focused on testing the effectiveness of immersive virtual reality (VR) exercises, within extended reality experiences, in increasing awareness and empathy among university students towards pregnant women, elderly people, people in wheelchairs, and people with some sort of sight impairment. The extended reality experience was designed to simulate various scenarios that reflect the experiences of people from diverse backgrounds, to promote a better understanding of different perspectives and social issues related to some of the challenges tackled by people whose limitations are many times overlooked. Material and Methods A design-based research methodology was applied and qualitative and quantitative data were collected in samples of 20 students from 3 countries. Results Overall, the results suggest that immersive VR applications can be an effective tool in increasing awareness and empathy among higher education students. The use of VR technology can create a sense of presence and immersion that allows students to experience situations that they may not have encountered otherwise. The results attained with the immersive experiences have provided evidence that these solutions can foster a greater understanding of different perspectives and promote empathy towards individuals from diverse backgrounds. Conclusions Ongoing research correlated with the Mixed Reality on Universal Design’s Secret Service (Mr. UD) project results is already expanding on these findings by testing the effectiveness of VR applications in different contexts and with larger and more diverse samples. Additionally, the research conducted has provided relevant evidence that suggests that VR applications and their inclusion in training programs may help promote behavior change and reduce prejudice and discrimination towards marginalized groups.

    This article explores the relevance of universal design and empathic design in education. The universal design focuses on creating accessible and usable products, environments, and systems for individuals with diverse abilities. Empathy, on the other hand, involves understanding and sharing the feelings of others, encompassing cognitive, emotional, and compassionate empathy. The article investigates the application of empathy in design, particularly its importance for engineers. Teaching empathy to engineers is emphasized as a crucial aspect. By developing empathic skills, engineers gain a deeper understanding of user needs and perspectives, leading to more inclusive and user-centered design solutions. Effective communication techniques such as asking open-ended questions, active listening, observation, and perspective-taking are explored to enhance empathy in communication. The article also explores methods for measuring empathy, thus enabling engineers to assess the effectiveness of their empathic design approaches. The challenges facing students, teachers, and university authorities in implementing such courses are also bulleted.

    Przedsiębiorczość indywidualną, będącą ważnym stymulatorem rozwoju gospodarczego, trudno w sposób jednoznaczny i bezpośredni utożsamiać z poziomem edukacji. Jednak w czasach, gdy wiedza to jeden z najcenniejszych zasobów, edukacja jest niewątpliwie bardzo istotnym czynnikiem zwiększającym przedsiębiorczość. Szybki rozwój e-learningu pozwala, aby nauka w szkołach wyższych stawała się łatwiej dostępna, niezależnie od układów przestrzennych interesariuszy procesu edukacyjnego. Niniejsze opracowanie zawiera, przeprowadzoną na podstawie literatury, analizę krytyczną definicji wirtualizacji w kontekście zastosowania ich do procesu wirtualizacji uczelni oraz bardzo krótki przegląd bieżącego stanu badań nad procesem wirtualizacji uczelni w Polsce. Autor zauważa lukę badawczą związaną z brakiem bieżących wyników badań empirycznych dotyczących funkcjonowania uczelni w internecie oraz niedostatkiem opracowań teoretycznych na temat modelowania procesu wykorzystywania wirtualnej przestrzeni internetowej przez uczelnie wyższe. Autor wskazuje, m.in., na konieczność odpowiedzi na pytania o uwarunkowania wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne wpływające na zakres i sposoby wykorzystania wirtualnej przestrzeni przez uczelnie oraz o założenia i elementy mogące się składać na modelowe ujęcie procesu wirtualizacji uczelni.
    Individual entrepreneurship is an important stimulator of economic development. It is difficult to clearly and directly identify individual entrepreneurship with the level of education. However, at the times when knowledge is one of the most valuable resources, education is undoubtedly a very important factor of increasing entrepreneurship. The rapid evolution of e-learning lets university education become easily available regardless of the mutual location of educational process stakeholders. This article includes analysis of the different definitions of virtualization in the context of their application to the process of universities virtualisation. It also contains a short overview of the current state of research in the field of universities virtualisation in Poland. The author notes the lack of current empirical research on the universities functioning on the Internet, and lack of theoretical studies on modelling process of using virtual space by universities. The author points out the need to answer questions about internal and external conditions for use of the Internet virtual space by the university or questions about the assumptions and elements that can be used to model the virtualisation process of a university.

    Jednym z podstawowych wyzwań polskiego szkolnictwa wyższego jest intensyfikacja aktywności międzynarodowej we wszystkich obszarach działalności. Wymaga to poszukiwania nowych form kształcenia, sposobów nawiązywania kontaktów umożliwiających trwałe funkcjonowanie w międzynarodowych sieciach akademickich. W pracy przedstawiono przesłanki i uwarunkowania innowacyjności w szkolnictwie wyższym, w kontekście możliwości wspierania procesów umiędzynarodowienia. Podkreślono rolę technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych w rozwoju innowacyjnych form umiędzynarodowionego kształcenia, takich jak mobilność wirtualna, otwarta edukacja.
    One of the basic challenges of Polish higher education is the intensification of international activity in all areas of activity. This requires searching for new forms of education, ways of establishing contacts enabling permanent functioning in international academic networks. The paper presents the reasons and determinants of innovation in higher education in the context of the possibility of supporting internationalization processes. The role of information and communication technologies in the development of innovative forms of internationalized education, such as virtual mobility and open education, was emphasized.

    The presented paper describes the characteristics of a study conducted on Synchronous Virtual Classrooms (SVCs), virtual spaces which harbour such resources as videoconferences, shared desk-tops, etc. The main objective of the research was to assess teaching and methodological, communication and technological aspects of SVCs in e-learning processes. Empirical methodology of quantitative and descriptive nature was used; a questionnaire was designed to assess these issues with a sample of 116 university students from six different fields of study at the University of Extremadura. As a conclusion, we report that SVCs with a constructive methodology enhance students’ creativity, favour virtual collaborative work, promote critical and independent thought, and create alternative channels to stimulate students’ active participation by means of flexible and attractive interfaces.

    The paper presents a study about using Insta.Ling e-learning platform in university teaching process of English language for Biology students. The aim of this study is to estimate its effectiveness and the correlation between the number of repetitions and the number of words memorized. The total number of students involved in this research is 129 (6 student groups and in 3 academic years). They are all students of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw. The results allow to assume that Insta.Ling environment is an effective way to learn new vocabulary and regular sessions positively affect the number of vocabulary memorized.
