Opis:
Mimo umasowienia kształcenia niewielki odsetek studentów podejmuje działania wykraczające poza oficjalny program kształcenia. Zrzeszają się oni w niewielkich organizacjach i podejmują pierwsze samodzielne badania naukowe. Studencki ruch naukowy podlega takim samym procesom, jak cały system szkolnictwa wyższego. W tekście przeanalizowano wpływ umasowienia, mobilności, umiędzynarodowienia i utowarowienia edukacji na działalność kół naukowych – najpopularniejszych form w obrębie studenckiego ruchu naukowego. Materiał badawczy pochodzi z indywidualnych wywiadów pogłębionych i materiałów dostarczanych przez administracje uniwersytetów. W toku badań wyodrębniono dwa typy organizacji: tradycyjne koła naukowe i mikroorganizacje eksperckie.
Despite massification and declining quality of education at universities, still there is a small percentage of students who want to take actions beyond formal program of education. They associate in small organizations and pick up their first individual research. Scientific movement of students is subjected to the same processes as the entire higher education system is. Text examines the impact of educational massification, mobility, internationalization and commodification on the way scientific circles (the most popular form of the movement) act. Research material comes from individual in-depth interviews that were conducted with student activists and information provided by university administrations. The study distinguishes two types of organizations: traditional scientific circles and small expert organizations. It tries to determine which strategy fits better to current context. Just like the idea of university needs new consideration also the scientific movement of students requires the attention too. Entire sector desperately needs a fundamental change.

Opis:
The article discusses transformations of political science studies in Poland in the last two decades. The emphasis is put on the changes that took place in higher education system and in political science itself, as well as on the fact that the number of political science higher education institutions is increasing together with the number of candidates for the studies, political science students and graduates. The condition of political science studies is compared to the condition of other, selected faculties. Data presented in this article shows that political science, as a faculty, recently underwent rapid changes. Fast increase in the number of students in the 90’, as well as in the number of educational institutions at the beginning of the XXI century caused political science to become one of the most popular faculties in Poland. However, in the past few years the total number of students has been decreasing, political science students included. This change is significant enough to have an influence on the condition of educational institutions, many of which face difficulties maintain the faculty. What is important, these changes seem to be independent of the tendency observed in higher education in Poland in general, as well as other faculties.

The purpose of the article is to verify if the demographic changes in the world would influence particular states, most of all if they influence a cohort of students, and if so, in which way. The question seems to be important, especially from the perspective of the European states, that in majority cannot show even zero level of population growth, not to mention the positive one. The author has chosen Poland as the object of their research. Referring to the demographic decline, problems of universities with recruitment, as well as situation on the labor market and continuously sustained negative migration balance, the author is trying to answer the question if from the perspective of the universities, as well as Polish economy, foreign students are needed or not.

The purpose of this paper is to compare two groups of business students from Poland and Spain regarding their declared knowledge and readiness to apply the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The research was conducted in 2018 among students of two selected universities: the Faculty of Management at the University of Lodz in Poland (UL) and the Faculty of Economics at the University of Valencia (UV). A literature review was performed to compare the CSR education programs at both faculties and to investigate students’ opinions about CSR. The Chi2 independence test was used to find any statistical differences between the two researched groups. In total, 607 students took part in the study. The findings revealed that UV students declare themselves to be better prepared than UL students to make sufficient CSR-based employment decisions. It was also found that UV students more frequently declared a readiness to take CSR measures such as encouraging the company's management to take an interest in CSR, or to personally promote CSR activities in the company. UV students also declared a willingness to work in a company guided by CSR values and activities even for lower remuneration. The findings may be affected by social as well as economic contextual factors and they make it possible to formulate concrete recommendations on how to improve students' awareness of CSR ideas.

This paper investigates how the values of negative feedback from students’reflections should be exploited and utilized as an approach of pedagogical development. It was extracted as a step of the 3-year-action-research circles with an empirical study using the data collected from 96 cases of students’ reflections in a university of Poland for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Regardless the limitation of the diversity of the research tools and types of data, the study found the noticeable lessons through the process of problematizing the significant learning. The data was framed from the negative awareness at the wording and surface levels for quantitative descriptive and then these signals were directed to locate the messages holding the negative signals for qualitative analysis. Eight groups of codes were categorized using Atlas.ti from 172 quotations, extracted from 140 extracts of 96 cases of students’ reflections. The findings show that the negative signals are important to the teacher’s modifications and actions to alternate the future plans and teaching. In addition, seven problems were also generated from analyzing the quotations using this design. The attempts to fix these problems would facilitate the teachers to improve the skills of teaching and quality of the course. A different way of looking at students’ negative signals of this paper could be seen as an innovative approach to pedagogical development in comparison to the common usage of feedback itself which has been exploited divergently in education.

Social competences are one of the most important areas of an individual’s functioning in the surrounding environment. They are so important that, apart from knowledge and skills, they have become one of higher education’s outcomes. The level of social competence depends not only on the internal qualities of an individual but also on environmental factors. This article aims to present the findings of research concerning the level of social competences attained by students of tourism and recreation throughout their higher education and comprises quantitative and qualitative research methods. The results indicate that students show only average levels of social competence even though their academic teachers declare that education outcomes have been accomplished in this field.

This study focuses on the effect that internationalization of higher education has on the nation branding of South Korea. To better understand the role that international students in higher education play in nation branding, research is needed on the actual experiences of international students in the country. In this study, current and former African university students’ experiences living and studying in South Korea are investigated. This study, therefore, uses the nation branding framework within the context of South Korea and the role of higher education as an image enhancement strategy geared toward global public inclusion; its focus is on the experiences of African students. In order to obtain multiple perspectives on African student experiences, a survey was conducted using a questionnaire. The empirical evidence obtained in this study demonstrates that African students’ experiences in South Korea are relevant in their perceptions of the host country. The results suggest the positive impact that the South Korean government has on improving the country’s image through encouragement of internationalization of higher education, especially among African students who come to the country for their tertiary education.

The students’ research activity defined as a system of forms aimed at meeting and developing scientific interests of academic youth is pursued mainly in such areas as holding scientific conferences, publishing, running research projects, organisation of competitions, study trips, and expert meetings. This activity cannot only be perceived as a form of student’s activity but also as one of the factors that shape the Polish academia by early influencing young scholars. It allows the young people to learn appropriate attitudes and acquire expertise and experience necessary for the development of innovation and internationalisation of the Polish higher education system. This article was written as a contribution for the 60th anniversary of the Law Students’ Scientific Club at UMCS.
Studies about the transition to university emphasise the importance of the process of adaptation in the first year as a determining persistence factor. This article presents the results of the focus groups held with students of two undergraduate degree programmes, Pedagogy and Business Management and Administration, at the Universityof Barcelona(Catalonia, Spain) that dealt with the more significant situations they experienced in the process of adapting to life at university. The results are based on the five main tasks in the process of transition to university: starting and developing new social relationships; adjusting expectations about the university and degree programme; adapting to new academic codes at university; coping with academic/exam results; and construction of the university identity. These five tasks are identified in three moments in the initial period of adaptation. This study forms part of a Research+Development project.

At its best education is dangerous because it offers young people and other actors the promise of racial and economic justice, a future in which democracy becomes inclusive and a dream in which all lives matter.
