    Opis:
    Present unipolar international relations’ structure is a previously unknown situation. Authors present some aspects of the phenomenon discussed among scientists and scholars. Paper is focused on the following issues: arguments for long durability of unipolarity, and the benefits of the system – for the unipole and the lesser partners. Not only theoretical arguments are presented, but also the empirical data for different interpretations of unipolarity are presented. Some examples form the history of the last quarter of century, up to present times (summer 2015).

    The end of the Cold War which took place at the turn of the 1980s and the 1990s caused the political changes in the world and created a new political hierarchy. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and communist block United States became the lonely superpower. The article presents evolution and the new aims of the U.S. foreign policy. The main questions of the research are: what is the role of the superpower as the United States in the contemporary global political system? What is the right of the United States to be treated in the special way by other actors of the world’s international relations? In which cases the contemporary global hegemonic state has right to act in different regions of the world? Finally, what instruments (unilateralism, multilateralism) should the U.S. use to act in the international arena? For complete answers of these questions author analyzed the presidency of G. Bush, B. Clinton and G. W. Bush.

    Globalne przewodnictwo na arenie międzynarodowej staje się jednym z najważniejszych celów najsilniejszych państw świata. Stany Zjednoczone jako hegemon XX i XXI wieku staje przed poważnym wyzwaniem, ponieważ pretendentów do objęcia hegemona jest coraz więcej. Na wyraźne prowadzenie w tych działaniach wychodzą Chiny. W celu zbadania potęgi Stanów Zjednoczonych w dwóch pierwszych dekadach XXI wieku, należy przedstawić rodzaj ustroju politycznego jaki panuje w tym mocarstwie, poziom rozwoju ekonomicznego, demograficznego, technologicznego i informatycznego oraz militarnego tego kraju. Dzięki powyższemu możemy wywnioskować czy Stany Zjednoczone posiadają stabilną pozycję hegemoniczną, czy jednak występują w tym mocarstwie elementy, które mogą zaważyć na przyszłości tego kraju. Istotnym elementem w prowadzeniu badań jest określenie głównych kierunków działań obecnego hegemona oraz wyszczególnienie obecnych sojuszy i tych które staja się żywotnym interesem Stanów Zjednoczonych.
    Global leadership on the world stage is becoming one of the most important goals of the world's strongest states. The United States, as the hegemon of the 20th and 21st centuries, is facing a serious challenge as there are more and more contenders to take over the hegemony. China is taking a clearl lead in this effort. In order to examine the power of the United States in the first two decades of the 21st century, it is necessary to present the type of political system that prevails in this superpower as well as the level of economic, demographic, technological, information technology and military development of that country. From the above, we can conclude whether the United States has a stable hegemonic position or if there are elements in this superpower that could affect the future of this country. When conducting research it is an important to identify the main directions of activities of the current hegemon and detail the current alliances and those that are becoming a vital interest of the United States.

    Autor zauważa, że okres „globalnej wojny z terrorem/długiej wojny” przyczynił się do istotnej transformacji geopolitycznej w skali całego globu, podwyższył ryzyko poddawania społeczeństw niczym nieograniczonej inwigilacji i kontroli dzięki ultranowoczesnym technologiom rozwiniętym na potrzeby zwalczania terrorystów oraz zaktywizował politycznie ludność muzułmańską zarówno w Europie, jak i świecie arabskim, co umożliwiło przeprowadzenie rebelii, które obaliły szereg dawnych reżimów w państwach Większego Bliskiego Wschodu.
    The author claims that the “global war on terror/long war” resulted in the significant geopolitical transformation of the Globe, reducing the power of America in Europe and increasing its influence in the Greater Middle East region. In addition, it enhanced the risk of unlimited surveillance and control of the population not only by technologically advanced governments, but also by key “dotcom” corporations owing to anti-terrorist technological capabilities developed during this period. Furthermore, it activated the Muslim population, enabling it to carry out anti-government rebellions in some Muslim countries, and marginalized the influence of Islamists in the global umma.
