Opis:
Thermal augmentation in flat tube of car radiator using different nanofluids has been performed more often, but use of artificial roughness has been seldom done. Artificial roughness in the form of dimple is used in the present research work. Present study shows the impact of dimple shaped roughness and nanofluid (Al2O3/pure water) on the performance of car radiator. The pitch of dimples is kept at 15 mm (constant) for all the studies performed. The Reynolds number of the flow is selected in the turbulent regime ranging from 9350 to 23 000 and the concentration of the nanofluid is taken in the range of 0.1–1%. It has been found that the heat transfer rate has improved significantly in dimpled radiator tube on the expense of pumping power. Furthermore, the heat transfer rate also increases with increase in nanoparticle concentration from 0.1% to 1.0%. The highest heat transfer enhancement of 79% is observed at Reynolds number 9350, while least enhancement of 18% is observed for Reynolds number of 23 000.

Opis:
Promising cooling systems for high-power electronic elements are those based on vapor chambers and heat pipes which allow for the local heat flow to be dispersed from the electronic element to a larger surface area of the vapor chamber or the heat pipe. To reduce the thermal resistance of the cooling system, a finned radiator is installed on the outer surface of the vapor chamber or heat pipe. The authors propose a new design of the radiator which increases the heat transfer efficiency. The paper presents results of numerical simulation of heat transfer and aerodynamic resistance of the heat transfer surface with lamellar-split finning. The comparative analysis of heat transfer and aerodynamics was carried out for three types of radiators: with lamellar smooth finning, with lamellar split finning and with the sections of split finning rotated 30◦ against the air flow. It is shown that cutting the fins and rotating the split sections leads to an increase in heat transfer intensity and increase in aerodynamic resistance. The obtained results may be useful in the design of cooling systems for computer processors, power amplifiers for transmitting modules, energy-saving solid-state light sources, etc.

Opis:
A design optimization of a staggered pin fin heat sink made of a thermally conductive polymer is presented. The influence of several design parameters like the pin fin height, the diameter, or the number of pins on thermal efficiency of the natural convection heat sink is studied. A limited number of representative heat sink designs were selected by application of the design of experiments (DOE) methodology and their thermal efficiency was evaluated by application of the antecedently validated and verified numerical model. The obtained results were utilized for the development of a response surface and a typical polynomial model was replaced with a neural network approximation. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was applied for the neural network training providing very accurate characterization of the heat sink type under consideration. The quasi-complete search of defined solution domain was then performed and the different heat sink designs were compared by means of thermal performance metrics, i.e., array, space claim and mass based heat transfer coefficients. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations were repeated for the most effective heat sink designs.
