    Opis:
    The article looks at the questions related to health education, prevention and health promotion programs in the Polish schools. The paper begins with a rationale for more active involvement in health‑promoting activities. The first section presents shortcomings in the implementation of programs concerning health education, as well as low effectiveness of school prevention programs designed to counteract risk behaviour and obstacles to health promotion in schools. Next, the obstacles to effective implementation of health‑related activities are covered. In the final section, the necessity of integration of education and health policies is discussed.

    Z uwagi na fakt, że wczesne rozpoznanie i podjęcie odpowiedniego leczenia umożliwia spowolnienie każdego procesu chorobowego, istnieje konieczność włączenia szkoły w działania profilaktyczne, dające szansę na wyhamowanie progresji przewlekłych chorób nerek u dzieci. W literaturze przedmiotu spotyka się stwierdzenia, że choroby przewlekłe nerek (PChN) są zjawiskiem narastającym i stanowią problem nie tylko medyczny, ale i społeczny. Dlatego szkoła, z racji pełnionych funkcji, może wykazać się różnorakimi działaniami. Przede wszystkim powinna rozszerzyć działalność edukacyjną i upowszechnić tematykę związaną z rolą nerek dla organizmu człowieka w kontekście działań profilaktycznych i praktyk służącym ich zdrowiu. Ważne są też stosowne działania wychowawcze, gdy do klasy ma dołączyć uczeń z PChN, albo gdy zostanie ona zdiagnozowana u kogoś z tej klasy. Obowiązujące zmiany w polskim prawie oświatowym obligują szkołę do podejmowania spójnych działań edukacyjnych i wychowawczo-profilaktycznych oraz dają szkole większą autonomię w kierowaniu procesem edukacji i organizowaniu pomocy psychologiczno-pedagogicznej uczniom chorym przewlekle (zatem też i z PChN). Celem badań przeprowadzonych wśród uczniów wybranych szkół lubelskich było zdiagnozowanie istniejącego stanu świadomości w zakresie symptomów i profilaktyki chorób nerek, a także poziomu otwartości na specyficzne potrzeby uczniów, którzy tych chorób doświadczają.
    In view of the fact that early diagnosis and appropriate treatment makes it possible to slow down any disease process, it is necessary to include the school in preventive activities, giving a chance to slow down the progression of chronic kidney diseases in children. The literature on the subject finds that chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing phenomenon and is not only a medical problem but also a social problem. Therefore, the school, due to its functions, can demonstrate various activities. First and foremost, it should expand educational activities and disseminate the topics related to the role of the kidneys in the human body in the context of preventive activities and practices serving their health. It is also important to take appropriate parenting activities when a student with CKD is to learn in the class. The binding changes in Polish education law obligate the school to undertake coherent and educational-preventive activities, and give the school more autonomy in guiding the education process and organizing psychological and pedagogical assistance to chronically ill pupils. The results of research conducted among students of selected Lublin schools will be presented in this paper, the aim of which was to diagnose the existing state of awareness regarding the symptoms and prevention of kidney diseases and the level of openness to the specific needs of students who experience these diseases.

    The issue of children’s health safety in early education is often disregarded in re-search and literature and this article attempts to emphasize the importance of this sub-ject in the context of the quality of life of younger generation. As school and home environment are foundations of child’s upbringing and education, the undertaken research was based on school influences and we have asked the Pedagogy students from University in Bielsko-Biała to acknowledge and explain the aspect of children’s health safety on this ground. Future teachers should have a wide knowledge of this subject and have the ability to create awareness of this matter amongst their pupils. The carried out research is a ground to undertake further analysis as the case of health safety plays a huge part of widely understood public health and has a great impact on the whole young generation.
