    Opis:
    The study examined two types of parenting and their relationships with the parents’ involvement in the education of their children. A small-scale study1 of one classroom at a urban public school in the Czech Republic suggests that children from families with different backgrounds and different attained education perceive distinct types of parental upbringing styles in relation to their education achievement: the article discusses helicopter and submarine parenting. The main interest is dedicated to helicopter and submarine parenting in their weak and contradictory forms since the research revealed these two forms to be the most prevalent in the studied classroom. As the research data indicates, these two parental models are associated with specific dimensions of emotional capital. The survey revealed that the children of helicopter parents clearly benefit from parental involvement since their parents effectively transform their emotional capital into cultural capital.

    Opis:
    This paper identifies the most significant patterns of educational experience among members of the interwar Polish communist movement. The first part of the article covers the experiences that communists shared with other representatives of the social strata from which they originated: the reproduction of the social structure or their overcoming of it in the form of social advancement. It also discusses the importance of educational barriers and opportunities as factors facilitating the emergence of attitudes of radical contestation of the socio-political order. The second part identifies educational experiences that were directly related to involvement in an illegal, subversive and repressed political current, and the diverse, sometimes paradoxical consequences of that involvement for representatives of different social strata. It traces the transformations of the communist habitus and proposes the concept of ‘clandestine white-collar workers’. The article concludes that there were two patterns in the pursuit of education among the communists: acquiring a degree in revolution or for the sake of the revolution.

    Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań poświęconych sukcesji w firmach rodzinnych rozpatrywanej w szerszej perspektywie strategii reprodukcji pozycji klasowych. Odwołując się do teorii Pierre’a B ourdieu a konkretnie jego koncepcji habitusu-pola i strategii rekonwersji kapitałów, tekst analizuje warunki zajścia sukcesji, zastosowane strategie reprodukcji oraz transfery poszczególnych kapitałów w trakcie zmiany pokoleniowej w firmach rodzinnych. Badania wskazują na habitus jako kluczowy element wyjaśniający szczególną odpowiedniość struktury kapitałów, indywidualnych wyborów i aspiracji z potencjałem sukcesyjnym przedsiębiorstwa, a ogólniej strukturalnymi regułami i ograniczeniami reprodukcji.
    The paper presents the results of research into the problem of succession in family business in the broader perspective of social reproduction strategies. Based on Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical habitus-field framework and strategies of reconversion of capitals, it identifies preconditions for successful succession, the strategies of reconversion applied and the structure of capital transfers along with transgenerational change. The author recognizes habitus as the pivot element of explanation, the specific adequacy of capital structure, individual preferences and aspirations with situational potential, and general structural rules.

    The paper presents leisure, sports and physical recreation as areas of class struggle. It contains a brief introduction to the social class theory of Pierre Bourdieu and investigates his views on sports practices and how sport may be considered a part of cultural capital. The leisure class described by Veblen used amateur sport to manifest its high social position and strengthen social barriers. Today, with the distinctions of social class blurring, manners of leisure use and styles of consumption become important markers of social position. Several current studies applying Bourdieu’s concept of class are presented with regard to sports consumption and participation in sports and physical recreation. The research evidence, although not fully consistent, supports the class-based patterns described by Bourdieu and the applicability of his theoretical concept to the field of sport.
