Opis:
Decision Support Systems (DDS) have developed to exploit Information Technology (IT) to assist decision-makers in a wide variety of fields. The need to use spatial data in many of these diverse fields has led to increasing interest in the development, of Spatial Decision Support. Systems (SDSS) based around the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. Tlie paper examines the relationship between SDSS and GIS and suggests that SDSS is poised for further development owing to improvement, in technology and the greater availability of spatial data.

Opis:
One of the most difficult tasks encountered when implementing waste management practices in Turkey involves the selection of the most suitable area for a landfill. The Geographic Information System (GIS) which possesses the ability to imitate and process economic and environmental constraints, presents itself as a useful and effective decision support tool. This study will utilize the GIS to determine feasible alternative landfill areas on the European side of Istanbul, which has a high density population, showing that accurate selection results can be achieved at lower cost.

Opis:
In this article the potential applications of GIS systems in the management of air quality are discussed. In particular two specific issues are described: determining the spatial representativeness of air quality monitoring stations and areas of standards exceedances. The methods using spatial and emission data, as well as, the results of measurements, i.e. Land Use Regression method and so-called Beta parameter method are presented. The first one is based on the regression models in which mentioned information may be treated as independent data and, as a result, we obtain information on the levels of pollutant concentrations in point and space. The second method involves the parameterization of the spatial characteristics selected on the basis of the monitoring and emission data. These methods can find practical application in the field of air quality monitoring, assessment and the preparation of a public web presentation.

Opis:
This article deals with the application of spatial multiple criteria evaluation (SMCE) concepts and methods to support identification and selection of proper sites for waste disposal. The process makes use of a recently developed SMCE module, integrated into ITC's existing geographic information system called ILWIS. This module supports application of SMCE in planning and decision making processes through several compensatory and non- compensatory approaches, allowing inclusion of the spatial and thematic priority of decision makers. To demonstrate the process, a landfill site selection problem around the town of Chinchina, in Colombia, is used as an example. Based on different objectives, a spatial data set consisting of several map layers, e.g., land use, geological, landslide distribution, etc., is made available and used for modeling the site selection process.

Opis:
The paper proposes a methodology for fuzzy multi-criteria analysis of decisions in a raster-based geographical information system (GIS) to determine the optimal locations for territorial objects. Recommendations about the stages of choosing alternatives for spatial and non-spatial constraints are given. It is shown that the fuzzyfication of criteria, that is, the conversion of their attribute values into a fuzzy set, based on expert evaluation of a fuzzy membership function, allows screening alternatives by determining thresholds of alpha-cut of fuzzy sets for each criterion, followed by combining criteria attributes using aggregation operators: minimum, maximum, weighted sum, OWA operator Jager. Adding to the procedure of multicriteria analysis of the additional stage of filtration of alternatives gives the opportunity to reduce the number of alternatives, and in the future and the processing time of the criteria layers by aggregator operators. The proposed algorithm for screening alternatives can be performed in a GIS environment using Fuzzy Membership, Overlay and raster calculators tools.

Opis:
One of the major problems human beings are confronted with in urban setting is the removal of urban waste. This problem has persuaded the urban authorities to use various tools such as Geographic Information System (GIS) to locate landfills. To do that, Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has been used in which or multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods and GIS are combined. The selection of the burial place and landfill has great importance and different criteria must be considered. SDSS, using MCDM is able to investigate locating landfill using various criteria simultaneously and it determines its importance. This research aims at presenting suitable solution through using computer and GIS related to solid urban waste and their locating in Hamadan based on standard criteria. A comprehensive model based on GIS, to get the suitable burial place and landfill can help to save time and cost. The model of locating burial place of urban solid waste has been presented.
