Opis:
Recent years have witnessed a progressive increase in the number of people suffering from hypertension, which is one of the most serious health problems in the world. Hypertension results in changes leading to function disorders, not only of the organs and tissues, but also changes leading to the activation of many defense mechanisms in the cells in order to prevent damage. One of them is the expression of neuroendocrine (NE) hormones and biologically active substances, which has been the focus of extensive research for a number of years. Active involvement of NE cells and the biological and therapeutic properties of various substances synthesized by them have been confirmed in clinical trials and in various experimental models. Results obtained in many research studies indicate intense activity of enteroendocrine cells in the gastrointestinal tract in various pathological conditions, including hypertension. In the present review, we discuss the morphological and functional changes of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine cells under conditions of different types of hypertension.

Opis:
Nifuroxazide is a popular chemotherapeutic agent, that is widely used in Poland in acute and chronic bacterial diarrhea treatment. It is available in pharmacies as over-the-counter tablets for adults and a suspension on prescription for children. The aim of the study was to assess the safety of nifuroxazide therapy. Adverse reaction reports from the Regional Pharmacovigilance Center in Wroclaw, the pharmaceutical company PPF Hasco-Lek, and VigiAccess and EudraVigilance databases were analyzed. Based on the analysis of the data collected from the above sources, nifuroxazide have shown a high therapeutic value in the gastrointestinal tract infections, maintaining high safety of usage at the same time. The number of drug application adverse reactions in Poland is not so high primarily due to high safety profile and low patient awareness of the possibility of reporting drug side effects.

Introduction and Objective. The study describes the clinical characteristics of two patients who underwent endoscopic removal of a foreign body from the GI tract. Thea in was comparative analysis of endoscopy and other methods of treatment. Materials and method. The cases of two patients who presented to the ED with complaints related to the swallowing of foreign bodies (dentures) were retrospectively reviewed. Diagnostic methods, treatment, risk factors and clinical outcomes were analyzed. Conclusions. In most cases, endoscopy is an effective method of foreign body removal; however, some patients may require other treatment (eg. patients with risk factors or location/position of foreign body that cannot be treated by endoscopy). Endoscopy is also safe, available and a relatively quick procedure.

112 strains of Candida albicans were isolated from oral cavity and ontocenoses of the upper digestive tract (endoscopy) of children (age: 5-17) with gastrointestinal disorders. Axenic strains were differentiated with API 20C AUX and API ZYM tests (bioMerieux). Then enzymograms and biotypes were determined for all the strains based on the activity of 19 hydrolases. The highest activity was noted for: e₂ - phosphatase alcaline, e₆ – leucine arylamidase, e₁₁ - phosphatase acid, e₅ - lipase (c₁₄); e₇ - valine arylamidase, e₁₂ - naphtol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase, e₁₆ - α-glucosidase and e₁₈ - N-acetyl-ß-glucosamidase, and the latter four were used for biotyping procedures. Our own system was based on the mathematical binominal distribution formula (1: 4: 6: 4: 1): all „+”; one „ -” three „+”; two „-”, two ,,+”; tbree „-”, one „+”; all „-”. We bave found the following biotypes: A (16.1 ± 3.5%), B₁ (2.7 ± 2.53%), B₃ (8.0 ± 25%), B₄ (22.3 ± 3.9%), C₂ (1.8 ± 1.3%), C₃ (7.1 ± 2.4%), C₆ (30.4 ± 4.3%), D₃ (11.6 ± 3.0%).

Opis:
In the current study, it was hypothesized that the addition of strawberry polyphenol-rich fractions to a high-fructose diet mitigates disorders in liver functions, lipid metabolism, and in the antioxidant and pro-inflammatory status of rats. Therefore, a fraction rich in ellagitannins and proanthocyanidins (EP), and a fraction containing compounds of both mentioned classes of polyphenols and additionally anthocyanins (EPA), in doses of 0.28 and 0.70 g/100 g, respectively, were added to a standard or a high-fructose diet administered to rats for six weeks. The EPA fraction was more beneficial in alleviating the consequences of consuming excess fructose in the diet than the EP fraction. Probably, that fraction containing considerable amounts of carbohydrates was more extensively metabolized by intestinal bacteria, which resulted in higher levels of cecal short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) as well as cecal and urinal ellagitannin metabolites. As a further consequence, diet supplementation with the EPA fraction caused more favorable changes in the levels of serum interleukin 6 and serum antioxidant capacity of water-soluble substances (ACW), in atherogenicity index lg((triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol), hepatic oxidized glutathione as well as reduced to oxidized glutathione ratio). Efforts should be made to develop strawberry polyphenol-rich preparations containing the preferred anthocyanins, which is, however, difficult due to the instability of this class of phenolic compounds during the technological process.
