Opis:
The sensitivity of explosives to various initiating events, in probability of initiation-level of stimulus space, has a shape of sigmoidal curve. In standard sensitivity tests only one point on this curve is sought, most often the 50% initiation probability level. The usual (and most often used) method for its determination is the up-and-down method. The whole sensitivity curve can be obtained by conducting large number of trials at all levels or more effectively by probit analysis. The usage of probit analysis, improvement of the precision of the results and comparison with the results precision of the up-and-down method is demonstrated by the example of determination of sensitivity to friction.

Opis:
The sensitivities of energetic materials as well as advanced energetic solid propellants are invariably associated with the nature of the stimuli that are responsible for the initiation of their decomposition. Hence it is important to study the chemical processes involved with these decompositions. While assessing the potential application of new propellant formulations containing energetic materials, it is important to assess their sensitivity to the hazards involved during their handling, transport, storage and use. This paper reports the results of impact, friction, heat, spark and shock sensitivities of advanced high energy solid rocket propellant formulations based on nitrate ester plasticized, hydroxyl terminated prepolymer (SPB-255) as an energetic binder loaded with solid ingredients like ammonium perchlorate (AP), aluminium (Al) and cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine (HMX). The results of the small card gap test showed that they are more sensitive than a composite modified double base (CMDB) propellant, which in turn is more sensitive than double base (DB) as well as composite propellants. Deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) tests carried out for the advanced energetic propellant did not show any detonation phenomena. Trinitrotoluene (TNT) equivalence and super large scale gap (SLSG) tests have been carried out for the determination of hazard classification of the energetic solid rocket propellant. The requirements to achieve both higher performance in terms of improved energy (i.e., specific impulse, Isp) and reduced sensitivity for the same propellant composition are contradictory; one should be sacrificed for the other, within manageable limits.

Opis:
The method of sensitivity analysis of mathematical model with strong non-linear characteristics is discussed in the paper. This model focuses on friction, as well as freeplay dynamics in a car steering system including stick-slip fenomena. Because of strong nonlinearities of the model, its sensitivity indexes can not be counted by classic sensitivity variation equations and classic mathematical analysis of smooth functions.  Fortunately,   nonlinear characteristics are described with using special piecewise - linear luz(...) and tar(...) projections. They have an original mathematical apparatus which secures parametrically made simplifications and enough regularity of the model (some details of analytical transformations are shown). Thanks to luz(...) and tar(...) projections the continuity of sensitivity indexes is secured but of course, the calculation of sensitivity indexes has to base on comparative simulation investigations. The paper presents example results of simulations of the steering system action (including stick-slip processes) for different values of friction as well as freeplay parameters (kinetic and static friction in king-pins, backlash in a steering gear). These simulations concern combined open road tests of a passenger car according to the ISO requirements (ISO 7401 - the ramp input on the steering wheel, then ISO 4138 - circular steady state motion, and finally the steering wheel released, all with a constant speed 80 km/h).

Opis:
Modelling and simulation investigations of a car non-linear dynamics with regard to freeplay (backlash in steering gear) and friction (kinetic and static friction in king-pins) is always a challenge for researchers. Fortunately, by special luz(...) and tar(...) projections and their mathematical apparatus the elaborated models and simulation procedures of stick-slip phenomena in a steering system are managed in efficient forms (without any entangle constraints) even for optimization and sensitivity studies. Exactly, the presented studies deal with problems of sensitivity of optimized maneuvers for vehicle models considering freeplay / friction effects. Double lane change maneuvers (overtaking and avoiding) are discussed. A criterion function refers to several evaluations (precision of maneuver, calm steering, feeling of comfortable travel). The optimization of steering wheel angle signal is done on a reference model with "nominal" freeplay and friction parameters. Such input signal is applied to a "real" vehicle having "real" freeplay and friction parameters. The differences of output signals as well as differences between criterion function values are a subject of sensitivity analysis. The sensitivity of reference models on a variation of freeplay and friction parameters appears as important from theoretical as well as practical points of view. The paper takes up the problems of sensitivity analysis of steering system model applied for synthesis steering algorithms for a double lane change maneuver.
