Opis:
Although the flotation behaviors of iron concentrate and quartz are significantly different, quartz is the primary factor that affects the quality of iron concentrate. The flotation mechanism of quartz in the presence of mixed cationic Ca2+/Fe3+-co-activated SDS catcher was studied by conducting flotation tests with pure quartz mineral. The solution chemical calculation method, zeta potential calculation method, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy technique, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) technique, and other techniques were used to conduct the studies. The results showed that the maximum Ca2+/Fe3+-based synergistic activation of the flotation recovery process could be achieved in a certain range of pH values when three different activators were added sequentially. Analysis of the zeta potential values revealed that the Ca2+/Fe3+-activated quartz surface improved the extent of positive electricity generated and enhanced the SDS adsorption ability of the quartz surface. Results obtained using the FT-IR technique revealed that Ca2+/Fe3+ exerted a synergistic effect, and the adsorption process exploited the single oxygen bond interactions in the monovalent hydroxyl complex Ca(OH)+ and the double oxygen bond interactions in the Fe(OH)3 precipitates. Results obtained using the XPS technique revealed that the synergistic effect exerted by Ca2+/Fe3+ was significantly stronger than that exerted by Ca2+ or Fe3+ alone. The stable Fe-based six-membered chelate ring was formed on the surface of quartz when Fe3+ was the activator, and the chain-like Ca-based complex was formed when Ca2+ was the activator. The adsorption process on the surface of quartz proceeded following chemical as well as physical adsorption pathways. The results revealed that Ca(OH)+ and Fe(OH)3 played prominent roles during the activation of quartz surfaces in the presence of Ca2+/Fe3+.

Opis:
Flotation using sea water has been considered as a promising alternative to concentrate molybdenite (MoS2) under alkaline conditions due to scarcity of fresh water and increasingly strict regulations on the quality of discharged water. However, the MoS2 recovery with sea water during flotation has not been satisfactory, owing to the depressing effects from the hydrophilic metallic species onto MoS2 surface. This study combines experimental and theoretical studies of MoS2 flotation to investigate how the physicochemical properties of MoS2 vary with the addition of a dispersant, sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), and in sea and fresh water. Our experimental results show that the addition of SHMP during flotation has increased the recovery of MoS2, via reducing the adsorption of the hydrophilic metallic precipitation onto MoS2 surface. The DLVO calculation confirms that the addition of SHMP increases the floatability of MoS2 by dispersing the formed hydrophilic metallic precipitation (Mg(OH)2 colloids) from the MoS2 surface, via reversing attraction force to repulsion force, thereby improving MoS2 flotation recovery.

Opis:
Stirred pulp-mixing is performed before coal flotation. In this study, a two-stage stirred pulpmixing tank was designed based on the single-stirred process to intensify the mixing effect of pulp and flotation reagents. A tank has a pitched-impeller opening-type turbine. Stirred pulp-mixing and flotation experiments were conducted on a sample of anthracite fine coal (-0.5mm) from the Xuehu Coal Preparation Plant in Henan Province, China. The results of the two-stage stirred pulp-mixing were compared with those of a single-stage stirred pulp-mixing in terms of flotation performance. Compared with the single-stage stirred pulp-mixing, two mixing areas and double-layer impeller were able to strengthen the energy input to the stirred system, thereby improving the mixing efficiency of flotation reagents and coal particles in the pulp. The two-stage stirred pulp-mixing significantly increased the flotation feed rate of the cyclone-static micro-bubble flotation column and concentrate yield, enhanced the combustible matter recovery effect of coarse particles at a suitable flotation feed rate, and ensured the recovery effect of fine particles at high flotation feed rate.

Opis:
The depressing properties of sodium polyacrylate (PA-Na) for calcite from scheelite were studied by microflotation experiments, zeta potentials, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculation. Flotation results revealed that the selective depression effect of PA-Na was better than that of sodium silicate (Na2SiO3), and PA-Na can depress calcite more effectively than scheelite. The flotation recovery of scheelite and calcite kept at about 75% and 15% respectively at the pulp pH 9.3~9.6 and PA-Na concentration from 37.5 mg/dm3 to 50 mg/dm3. The zeta potentials of the minerals were significantly altered and the zeta potential of calcite became more negative than scheelite. XPS analysis deduced the occurrence of chemisorption between PA-Na and mineral surfaces, and the chemisorption of PA-Na on calcite was stronger than on scheelite. The results from DFT calculation demonstrated that the absolute value of the adsorption energy in the presence of PA-Na on the surface of calcite {104} was larger than on the surface of scheelite {111}. With the combination of the analysis, it could be concluded that calcite was more easily depressed than scheelite, and this finding remarkably matched with the microflotation experimental results. Furthermore, by using PA-Na as depressant, the flotation separation of scheelite from calcite can be achieved by controlling the flotation pH and PA-Na dosage.

Opis:
A cyclonic-static microbubble flotation column of a novel construction was used in oil-water separation fields and has high efficiency for oil-water separation. The gas holdup is a key parameter for the evaluation of the performance of a flotation column. The gas holdup, closely related to the bubble size, bubble velocity and superficial gas velocity, is one of the most important parameters characterizing the hydrodynamics of a bubble column. The effect of gas holdup in a cyclonic-static microbubble flotation column was investigated. In addition, several operating parameters such as the circulating pressure, superficial gas velocity, and frother consumption were also investigated. The gas holdup was positively correlated to the superficial gas velocity. The gas holdup of clean water and oil wastewater increased along with the increase of the frother consumption. The separation mechanism of cyclonic-static microbubble flotation column was analyzed.

Opis:
This paper researched the influence of the polysaccharide polymer sodium alginate (SAG) on the depression of talc at a fixed room temperature about 25 °C through micro flotation and batch flotation experiments, zeta potential and contact angle measurements as well as infrared spectroscopy analysis. The flotation results displayed that the SAG had a significant influence on the flotation of talc but less influence on sulphide flotation. Compared with the depressant carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and guar gum, using of the SAG gave the highest copper recovery. It could not only eliminate a talc removal step, but also significantly decrease in the depressant consumption by half at least. Sodium alginate apparently adsorbs on the talc surface and promotes hydrophilization, as revealed by contact angle tests (contact angle decreased from 75 to 33° after treating with SAG). It is demonstrated that the SAG obviously absorbed at the surface of talc but rarely for chalcopyrite through the results of zeta potential measurements and infrared spectroscopy analysis.

Opis:
In this work, the effect of magnetite with different particle sizes on the flotation performance of both coarse and fine hematite particles were investigated by using sodium oleate as a collector. The results showed that the magnetite particles with different particle sizes showed a negative effect on hematite (-106+45 μm) recovery, but the addition of magnetite with the same particle sizes as hematite during the direct flotation of -45 μm hematite was beneficial to improve the recovery of micro-fine hematite and the Fe grade of concentrate. The finer the magnetite particle was, the more obvious the agglomeration effect of hematite was. Therefore, the beneficial effect could be achieved by adjusting the particle sizes of particles. Moreover, sodium oleate was beneficial to promote the agglomeration of micro-fine magnetite and hematite. The results from the microscopic analysis, laser particle size analysis, and EDLVO calculation proved that there was an effective aggregation between fine magnetite and fine hematite particles, which increased the apparent size of hematite particles and the probability of the mineral particles adhering to bubbles, thus improving the hematite recovery.

In this study, three kinds of anionic collectors (sodium oleate (NaOl), sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS) and naphthenic acid (NA)) were used in combination with dodecylamine (DDA) to investigate the flotation behavior of muscovite under the action of different mixed anionic/cationic collectors, and their mechanisms for adsorption on the muscovite (001) Surface were clarified using molecular dynamics simulations. The flotation results indicated that different mixed anionic/cationic collectors could improve the recovery of muscovite to varying degrees, but the optimum molar ratio of anionic collectors to DDA and the optimum mixed collector dosage were different. Molecular dynamics simulations showed that the mixed anionic/cationic collectors could significantly increase the hydrophobicity of the muscovite, as evidenced by the decrease in the calculated water molecule density on the muscovite surface and the diffusion coefficient of water molecules at the solid/liquid interface. The interaction between the amino group and the polar group of anionic collectors reduced the electrostatic repulsion between DDA cations and theoretically increased the adsorption capacity of the mixed anionic/cationic collectors on the muscovite surface. Moreover, DDA/NA and DDA/NaOl could improve the calculated carbon atom density on the muscovite surface, which enhanced the hydrophobic association between nonpolar carbon chains, thus further achieving an enhanced flotation performance.

Opis:
For a low grade dolomite type fluorite ore in the Hebei province, it was observed that the depressant CK102, a mixture of sulfuric acid, sodium silicate and aluminum sulfate, can effectively inhibit the gangue mineral dolomite in the flotation of fluorite. However, the inhibition mechanism of the depressant is still unclear. In this paper, the flotation separation performance and underlying mechanism of CK102 inhibiting dolomite were investigated through mineral flotation tests, adsorption measurements, infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The flotation results showed that the inhibition effect of CK102 on dolomite flotation was much more remarkable than that of fluorite flotation under optimum conditions. Adsorption measurements revealed that there was competitive adsorption between the depressant and collector and that the adsorption of the depressant CK102 prevented the collector modified sodium oleate from adsorbing onto the surface of minerals. The FT-IR and XPS results showed that the co-oxygen cross-linked component of the depressant CK102 chemisorbed on the surface of dolomite; the CaSiO3 precipitation was generated from the reaction of CK102 with Ca2+ groups on the surface of the dolomite; Al2MgO8Si2 precipitation was also generated from Mg2+ reacting with the sodium silicate and aluminum sulfate of CK102. The above adsorptions and reactions enhanced the hydrophilicity of the dolomite surface and the dolomite was effectively depressed.
