Opis:
This paper deals with the precision modelling of the ball screw unit’s thermal behaviour in the turning centre and its impact on the tool head positioning error. The error components along controllable axes X and Z are described in detail using an FE model integrating the changes in thermal and force loads and deformations occurring during the motion of the nut as a heat source. The impact of the nut work cycle on the thermal deformations of the ball screw and the displacements of the slideways and the screw points along both the axes and on carriage positioning precision is demonstrated.

Opis:
The vibration of a machine tool is mainly caused by the dynamic acceleration of a motion axis and by the forces that act on it. All the disturbance forces are transmitted to the machine tool frame through the drive (motor) and its regulation loop and they excite its vibrations. Thus the achievable dynamics and machining quality is negatively influenced. There are several possibilities how to suppress the excited vibrations including the recently introduced "motor on motor" technique which is based on the serial connection of two linear motors. This paper presents new simulation results performed on the simulation model of a real machine tool. The maximal achievable tuning of the regulation loop parameters of the motion axis equipped with the "motor on motor" technique was confronted with the conventional feed drive setting. The "motor on motor" feed drive properties were also tested in the virtual machining operation mode where the real measured cutting force was used. The sensitivity analysis of the reaction force and the middle mass movement of the "motor on motor" feed drive solution to the predicted cutting force introduced to the feed drive control has been investigated. The middle mass is represented by the shared part of both linear motors which absorbs the high frequency part of the reaction force by its movement.

Opis:
This paper briefly describes the current requirements which machine tool ball screws must meet and indicates the need for the modelling and numerical simulation of the latter. The structure of a holistic ball screw model and ways of modelling the properties of the ball screw in a turning centre, including the moving heat sources on the guides and in the screw-nut joint, are presented. The results of computing the heating up and displacements of a preloaded screw and the screw without preload are reported. The modelled changes in motion resistance and in displacements are shown to be in agreement with the results of measuring the current drawn by the drive’s motor. It is also shown that the models represent well the real physical phenomena occurring in the ball screw during the execution of repeatable work cycles by the drive.

Opis:
The article presents the results from the development of digital servodrive with permanent magnet synchronous motor within the CNC machine tool feed-drive. It was prepared during the work for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education grant number N N502 336936, (acronym for this project is M.A.R.I.N.E. multivariable hybrid ModulAR motIon coNtrollEr), while its main purpose is the development of new robust position/velocity model-based control system, as well as to introduce the measurement of the actual state into the switching algorithm between the locally synthesized controllers. Such switching increases the overall robustness of the machine tool feed-drive module. Presented here results takes into account the MIMO character of the process to be controlled.
