W pracy przedstawiono wyniki niskocyklowych prób zmęczeniowych próbek ze stali P91 w warunkach obciążeń stałoamplitudowych oraz programowanych. Próby przeprowadzono w dwóch temperaturach: T1 = 20ºC i T2= 600ºC. Na podstawie badań stwierdzono, że temperatura istotnie wpływa na trwałość zmęczeniową. Poza temperaturą na trwałość zmęczeniową w warunkach obciążeń programowanych wpływ ma również sekwencja stopni w programie obciążenia. W pracy przeprowadzono doświadczalną weryfikację liniowej hipotezy sumowania uszkodzeń zmęczeniowych Palmgrena-Minera. Stwierdzono, że na skuteczność hipotezy sumowania uszkodzeń wpływ ma zarówno temperatura badań, jak również sekwencja stopni w programie obciążenia.
Autors presents results of static, constant amplitude and programmed tests of P91 steel for the two levels of temperature (T1 = 20ºC, T2 = 600ºC). It was stated that, during constant amplitude tests, temperature significantly influences the fatigue life and depends on the level of strain amplitude. Obtained results of the fatigue life in terms of programmed loadings were compared to the results of calculations. During calculation of the fatigue life there was used the Palmgren- -Miner fatigue damage accumulation hypothesis. Basing on the comparison of the results of the fatigue life tests and calculations there were stated that the hypothesis effectiveness at elevated temperatures is lower than at the room temperature. The above was explained by larger changes of the cyclic properties at elevated temperatures.

The paper presents the results of fatigue tests of specimens with sized rivet holes. Samples for tests were made of 0.05'' (1.27 mm) thick non-clad plates of aluminium grade 2024-T3. Rivet holes were prepared assuming that they shall be used for 3 mm nominal diameter snap head rivets for aviation-related purposes. Different sizing degrees were achieved by drilling holes of different diameters in the samples followed by the sizing process using a sizing mandrel of the same diameter of 3.15 mm. Holes in the test samples were drilled using special device ensuring appropriate quality and repeatability of the holes. Five different sizing degrees were achieved be means of five drills of different diameters. Samples with holes of varying degrees of sizing were tested under constant amplitude sinusoidal loading conditions (cycle asymmetry coefficient R = 0) at the load frequency of 5 Hz. The study was conducted at three levels of maximum stress in the cycle. Fatigue life test results were presented in the form of fatigue diagrams (regression lines) determined in the bi-logarithmic coordinate system log N, log Smax. The results of the fatigue life tests received for the drilled as well as drilled and reamed holes were also presentedfor comparison. The results obtained lead to the conclusion that that the lowest fatigue life characterises samples with drilled holes and drilled and reamed holes. Fatigue life of specimens with holes for rivets improved (by 50% to 74%, depending on load level), even as a result of the hole surface polishing only (minimum sizing degree), whilst the two-fold growth of fatigue life was achieved for holes of a slight sizing degree. A further significant increase in fatigue life was achieved by the cold work of the hole's surface. Based on the location of the fatigue diagrams and the fatigue life tests results, it may be concluded that the higher a sizing degree, the higher the fatigue life growth. The growth is also proportional to the specimen load level: the lower the load level, the higher the fatigue life growth. Fatigue diagrams obtained from tests were divided into three groups: diagrams for drilled holes and drilled and reamed holes, diagrams for holes with a low degree of sizing and diagrams for holes with a high degree of sizing. This division was confirmed by statistical tests of regression lines parallelism by the “peer-to-peer” method.

Operated helicopter is submitted to varying loads spectrum. Important, for the sake of assurance structure integrity, is definition of the actual value of loads which act on individual structure element. The object of this analysis was the Mi-24 helicopter swashplate lever arm. Life estimation of this element with analytical method, for the sake of complicated geometry, can be problematical. It would be necessary to use considerable generalization which would certainly decrease results reliability. Numerical analysis allows one to create arbitrary shapes but it is necessary to properly define boundary condition. These work presents methodology for determining fatigue life of the structure element with use of strain gauges, which serve to define the real flight loads. Next step was to determine accurate element shape with the aid of 3D scanner ATOSIII. Geometry was imaged in CAD/CAM environment. After importing the geometry model to MSC.Patran the numerical model was developed. The analysis was done in the scope of linear static analysis. Estimation of fatigue life was done with the aid of MSC.Fatigue computer program. Fatigue life was estimated according to the Palmgren's - Miner's cumulation damage rule. Test was done in order to define potential fatigue damage sites and defining fatigue life of element. That allows verifying plane overhaul life and fully using helicopters potential next to keeping requested level of safety.

This paper presents issues of fatigue life calculations in operational load conditions. The assumed runs were so processed as to get a set of sinusoidal cycles by using the following methods: full cycles counting method and rainflow counting method. On the basis of such sets of cycles of the varying parameters Sm i and Sa i were prepared block load spectra of equivalent amplitudes Saz , obtained with the use of an original method of these authors, in which two-parameter fatigue characteristics were applied. The work resulted in comparison of fatigue life results for load spectra determined by using the assumed cycles counting methods and the assumed two-parameter fatigue characteristics: the model IM, model II, model III and model IV, respectively.

Thermo-chemical treatments are known to increase the fatigue life of industrial parts. Due to the imprecise consideration of residual stresses in predicting the durability of components subjected to cyclic loading and their effect on the fatigue life, the authors developed a numerical model combining the influence of residual stresses with stresses caused by bending. The authors performed the numerical simulation with the use of Finite Element Method to analyse material behaviour during cyclic loading. The residual stress state developed during nitriding was introduced onto cross-section of the numerical specimen. The goal of this work was better understanding of the real conditions of the nitride steel fatigue processes and improving the knowledge about numerical predicting of the fatigue life for parts with residual stresses. The results of simulation were compared with plane bending fatigue tests. The presented method indicates the possibility of increasing the accuracy of the fatigue analysis of elements after surface treatment, increasing its certainty and the ability to perform better optimization of service life.

This paper presents the impact of selecting the fatigue material model on the numerically determined fatigue life of a compressor blade. In the work, the first stage compressor blade of the PZL‑10W turbine engine was used. The research object contained a geometric notch with a known location and shape. In numerical studies, 8 fatigue estimation methods were used in the ε ‑N analysis (based on the Manson‑Coffin‑Basquin model). At the same time, three methods for estimating material constants associated with the cyclic hardening were employed. On the basis of the selected models, 24 sets of fatigue parameters were obtained, which were used in numerical studies. The numerical tests were carried out under resonant conditions with amplitudes of 1.5 and 1.8 mm. The numerical tests were confirmed by the experimental fatigue tests. As a result of the above‑mentioned tests, the impact of selecting the material fatigue model and hardening model on the obtained results was determined and they were referred to the initiation of the crack with the length a = 0.2 mm (achieved during experimental studies). The obtained results will constitute the basis for further fatigue tests.

In this paper fundamental information on the influence of the real machined surfaces generated by different machining processes on the fatigue life of machine parts are presented. In the first part the various approaches for the assessment of the stress concentration factor and the correction of a fatigue life limit are discussed. In the second part the results of standard fatigue tests are compared with computed data and predictions using FEM based simulations. The effect of surface discontinues (valleys) in the real surface profiles is related to engineered parts made of different materials including steels, aluminium alloys, aerospace alloys and composites.

This work presents the results of the numerical analyses pertaining to the influence of resonance vibration amplitude on the fatigue life of a compressor blade with a defect made by a collision with a hard object (FOD). The research object was the first stage compressor blade of the PZL-10W engine. The numerical simulation of the notch formation was performed for the tested blade. The material fatigue models (for e-N analysis), three cyclic hardening models, and two mean stress correction models were used in the numerical analyses. As a result of the numerical analysis, the information on the distribution of principal stress was obtained. The values of the principal stresses were used for numerical e-N fatigue analysis using the aforementioned models of fatigue, hardening, and mean stress correction. Obtained results were compared to previously published experimental research, where a notch was created at the leading edge in 8 blades. The blades damaged under laboratory conditions were subjected to experimental fatigue tests during which the effect of resonance amplitude on the number of damage cycles was determined. As a result of the comparison work carried out, the impact of the vibration amplitude on the durability of the element with plastic deformation was determined.

W pracy podjęto próbę analizy modeli wykresów zmęczeniowych możliwych do zastosowania w obliczeniach trwałości zmęczeniowej elementów maszyn. Analizę ograniczono do wykresów zmęczeniowych w ujęciu naprężeniowym, uwzględniając cykliczne obciążenia z zakresu niskocyklowego zmęczenia (NCZ), wysokocyklowego zmęczenia (WCZ), granicy zmęczenia (GZ) oraz zakresu gigacyklowego zmęczenia (GCZ), występujących w widmie obciążeń jednocześnie. Wybrane modele analizowanych wykresów zmęczeniowych zilustrowane zostaną wynikami badań stali i stopów aluminium.
In the paper there was attempted to analyse models of fatigue life curves possible to apply in calculations of fatigue life of machine elements. The analysis was limited to fatigue life curves in stress approach enabling cyclic stresses from the range of low cycle fatigue (LCF), high cycle fatigue (HCF), fatigue limit (FL) and giga cycle fatigue (GCF) appearing in the loading spectrum at the same time. Chosen models of the analysed fatigue live curves will be illustrated with test results of steel and aluminium alloys.

W pracy zaproponowano wyznaczanie efektywnego współczynnika działania karbu przez określenie lokalnych naprężeń w pewnej odległości d od dna karbu, właściwej dla danego materiału. Przedstawiono w sposób graficzny zmiany wartości współczynnika działania karbu, w zależności od liczby cykli dla trzech badanych promieni dna karbu. W celach porównawczych dokonano także obliczeń współczynnika ßk przy wykorzystaniu dwóch ogólnie znanych zależności Neubera oraz Petersona.
The paper presents five methods of signal generation which can be applied for simulation of service loadings at fatigue test stands. They are: the method of block programs of cyclic loadings, the matrix method for generation of random loading extrema, the congruence method for generation of random loading and formation of their probabilistic characteristics with use of digital filters, the method of generation of random signals as a sum of harmonic histories according to the given spectral power density function, the method of random signal generation with the inverse Fourier transform according to the given spectral power density function.

The paper presents a proposal of account of mean stress value in the process of the determination of the fatigue life, using the spectral method. The existing approaches have been described and some chosen stress models used to take into account the influence of the mean value in the process of the determination of fatigue life have been introduced. Those models, referring to their linear character, have been used to determine the power spectral density function (PSD) of the transformed stress taking into account the mean value. The method introduced by the authors allows a wide usage of many formulas used to predict the fatigue life by means of the spectral method.

In the calculating of fatigue life of structural elements the methods based on hypotheses of fatigue damage summation are commonly applied. In using the methods, apart from choice of an appropriate hypothesis, it is necessary to know a loading spectrum which usually constitutes a set of sinusoidal cycles of variable parameters (Sa, Sm), as well as fatigue characteristics in the form of Wöhler fatigue diagram, as a rule. Knowledge of the above mentioned data is low during structural design process as designed material objects and possibility of performing measurements are lacking. Hence in this work a calculation method of fatigue life of structural elements, based on the relations between fatigue life diagrams determined in constant-amplitude conditions (Wöhler diagrams) and those obtained under programmed or random loads, is described. The proposed method was experimentally verified by using results of fatigue tests on structural elements made of D16CzATW aluminium alloy.

In this paper, the results of an experimental fatigue analysis of the compressor blades with the mechanical defects were presented. Before the fatigue test, the blades were damaged in order to simulate the foreign object damage. In this operation, the v-notch was created by hitting the hard object into leading edge of the blade. The similar kind of damage occurs when the small particles as stones or sandy grains are sucked to the engine inlet and next have a collision with the rotated blade. As a result of the impact, both the plastic strains and also the initial stresses occur in the vicinity of the notch. These stresses have a large influence on the number of load cycles to crack initiation. During the experiment, the blades were entered into transverse vibration with the use of Unholtz-Dickie TA-250 vibration system. The crack propagation process was conducted in resonance conditions. During the fatigue test the blades were periodically bent. In investigations, the different vibration amplitudes of the blade were considered. During the fatigue test, the crack length was monitored with the use of non-destructive fluorescent penetrant method. The amplitude of the blade tip displacement was controlled using the Polytec PSV H-400S laser scanning vibrometer. The main aim of this work is analysis of influence of the vibration amplitude on the fatigue life of the compressor blade of the turbine engine. The results of presented investigations are important from the research and also from the practical point of view and have an influence on safety and reliability of the turbine engine.

During fatigue tests connectivity, welded steel XABO960 achieved a significant reduction in the durability of welded samples compared to samples taken from the parent material. For an explanation of the reasons for this phenomenon, residual stress and fatigue tests microfractography breakthroughs were studied. The study confirmed the occurrence of the weld area of substantial positive inclusions, residual stresses, and a high silicon content and sulphides which reduce the fatigue life of the welded joints [1, 2]. The explanation of these adverse events will be the subject of further research.
Przedstawiono rezultaty badań zmęczeniowych stali S960QL i jej połączeń spawanych. Badano próbki płaskie z materiału rodzimego i spawane czołowo. Wyznaczono wykres trwałości zmęczeniowej. Przedstawiono rezultaty pomiaru naprężeń własnych i badania makro- i mikrostrukturalne przełomów zmęczeniowych.

The fatigue problem induced by wave loads and floater movements of dynamic umbilicals in deepwater is studied. The prediction method of the fatigue life is investigated by considering no-linear local stress due to contact and friction between components of the umbilical. A case study of a dynamic umbilical for 1500 meters depth in South China Sea was presented. The results showed that the more accurate result of the fatigue life was calculated by considering non-linear local stress. The fatigue life by considering local stress with the no-slip assumption was conservative. An obviously longer fatigue life was obtained by considering local stress with the full-slip assumption.
