Opis:
In this study, the elastic wave propagation method is used to observe the initiation and evolution of the fatigue failure form in the multilayered composite plate with an elliptical hole. The experimental tests with the use of active, pitch-catch elastic wave measurement techniques are used during the fatigue test of the composite specimens. The fatigue tests were preceded by the numerical, finite element analysis of the elastic wave propagation phenomenon in a composite plate with an elliptical hole. The sequential measurement related to the number of cycles during the fatigue tests was assumed. The time of flight (ToF) and amplitude change was monitored by piezoelectric sensors localized in the area of predictable failure form evolution. The analysis of the dynamic response of the structure under fatigue loading conditions by a relatively small number of piezoelectric transduces allows us to build cost-effective Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system for damage detection and monitoring of the failure form evolution.

Opis:
Drilling rigs belong to the lowest-safety level of hoisting rope systems. The valid regulation for drilling permits the usage of steel ropes on condition that their permanent safety does not decrease under the value 2.5. Considerable dynamic and cyclic stresses, abrasion and corrosive environment generated during the operation cause rapid fatigue and rope damage. The stress of the rope in operation leads to the specific precautions ensuring the safety rope work. The specific precautions include monitoring of the rope tractive work measured in tonne-kilometres (ton-kilometres services). The working part of the hoisting ropes of the drilling rigs - after the stated number of tonne kilometres was worked off - is slipped and a regular non-destructive rope test (NDT) is recommended. Rope under sizing, failing in rope slipping program and non- implementation of NDT controls led to the situations endangering the drilling crew safety. After the critical situations the operator decided to perform the analysis of the condition of all ropes.

The article is focused on building the algorithm for identification the fatigue crack length in the first stage of compressor blade of the helicopter PZL-10W turbo-shaft engine. The fatigue wear of compressor blade is a process in which the fatigue crack begins at the structural notch of the working part. For compressor blade, the crack starts at the leading edge and progress along the blade chord. Due to working conditions, the compressor blades are referred to as critical components. The helicopter rotor downwash can easily lift particles form the ground that may cause damages in the compressor section. Aircraft engines are designed so that the rotational speed of impeller remains below the resonant frequency. However, the pulsation of working medium or mechanical vibrations may cause temporary increase of vibration frequency. The appearance of structural notch combined with temporary increase of vibrations may initiate the fatigue failure. The works undertaken at the Department of Aircraft and Aircraft Engines, Rzeszow University of Technology provided a wide spectrum of research data of amplitude-frequency (A-F) characteristics of 1st stage of compressor blade. For different crack lengths, the fatigue tests of resonant frequency and asymmetry of A-F characteristics were acquired. The crack lengths were measured by fluorescent or infrared mapping method. The aim of the article is to develop the numerical method for identification of crack length of compressor blade basing on A-F characteristics. The studies on A-F characteristics in order to find correlations between crack length, resonant frequency and characteristics asymmetry were performed. The next step was to build the algorithm for identification the crack length when only A-F characteristic is known. The article contains the description of researches background, A-F characteristics unique features, algorithm detailed methods of work and sample use of algorithm in identification the crack length.

W pracy przeanalizowano wpływ wielkości pola powierzchni uśredniania odkształcenia normalnego w płaszczyźnie krytycznej na ocenę trwałości zmęczeniowej próbek z karbem obrączkowym o dwóch promieniach zaokrąglenia dna karbu. W weryfikacji wykorzystano wyniki badań eksperymentalnych, zaczerpniętych z literatury, przeprowadzonych na ma- teriale AISI 1141 w dwóch stanach bez i po obróbce cieplnej. Obróbka cieplna zmieniła charakterystyki cykliczne materiału. Zmiana charakterystyki cyklicznej krzywej odkształcenia wyraźnie wpłynęła na wielkość obszaru uśredniania.
The paper analyses the influence of the size of the area in averaging process of strains over critical plane on the calculated fatigue life. The averaged strain is used as nonlocal parameter in fatigue life calculation. The analysis is performed on experimental results obtained on specimens with different notch radius. Specimens were made of a vanadium-based microalloyed forging steel AISI 1141, in both as-forged (AF) and quenched and tempered (QT) conditions. Heat treatment has changed cyclic properties of the material. The change in the cyclic stress-strain curve by heat treatment has influenced the size of the averaging area.

Opis:
Coiled compression springs are widely used in suspension systems of vehicles, light weight trailers, trains etc and their task is to minimize dynamic loading effect to vehicles body or frame in different road condition over many years. In these systems, springs are exposed to large number of cycles of loading and determination of their durability and reliability quantities is important. Consequently, to increase the reliability of these systems, a more accurate determination of the values of the endurance limits of springs is necessary. Usually, in many strength problems, the major components of stress are static, with less accurately alternating stresses superposed. Most failures of springs are originated with stress of alternating type. The solution of problem is accomplished due to acting shear and axial stresses in plane of cross-section of spring wire. By existing theory, when springs are loaded by non-steady loading, then to consider of unlimited number of combinations of amplitude and mean stresses, the line of failure of the material must be used. Since experimental data for the line of failure of material are usually not at hand, it is customary to make a conservative approximation, that it is a straight line. However, use this straight line may give considerable mistakes on determination of the limit range stresses. To avoid fore aft mentioned mistakes, the method of approximation of the failure curve line by the line with the properly chosen parameters for the coiled compression and tension springs is proposed in this paper. Theory to use proper parameters in approximation of failure curve and calculation example with results is given as well.

The article is devoted to the front burner problem of effective exploitation of industrial tank-wagons with the presence of residual operation time. The procedure of valuation of tank-cars’ residual operation time for liquid gas transportation was proposed first. Key technical and exploitation parameters of the tank-wagon model 15-1408-10 according to testing loads that simulate loads in real exploitation were approved. The calculation, which, as against existent ones for valuation of universal freight cars’ residual operation time, allows to calculate equivalent stress using test results that rely on a change of internal pressure activity during drainage and filling operations, and the most unfavorable combination of simulation of active loads on a tank-wagon was proposed. The proposed procedure can be adapted for use during valuation of freight cars’ residual operation time, or for other means of transport and machineries.
