Małżonkowie, aby mogli w pełni kochać, stając się ciągle uczestnikami tej „wielkiej tajemnicy” potrzebują działań ewangelizacyjnych w ramach właściwie rozumianego duszpasterstwa rodzin.
    Pastoral care is an organized activity of the Church, which implements the salvation act of Christ. It is done through the preaching the Word of God, through liturgy and witness of life. These activities are aimed at couples and families. The author points out that the Church is the bride of Christ through "domestic church" by love that is experienced within it. Spouses, to be able to fully love, becoming participants of that "great mystery", need evangelic activities in a well-understood pastoral care of families.

    A family which is founded on love, and the sacrament of marriage of the parents is the best environment for living, raising and rehabilitating a disabled child. His/her presence presents numerous difficulties that the parents have to overcome. Disability often negatively impacts the child’s acceptance of the parents. Due to the child’s disability the relationship between the parents may be disturbed; its impact is also perceptible in the relationship of the affected child with his/her siblings and other family members. Parents not always can look after their disabled child and deal with his/her rehabilitation and upbringing. Such difficulties constitute a challenge for various people and social institutions that help families with disabled children. Among them is also the Church whose pastoral care is meant to directly assist families and guide them in their seeking material, medical and psychological help.

    Bp Wilhelm Pluta (1910-1986) należał do prekursorów nowoczesnego duszpasterstwa małżeństw i rodzin w Polsce. Interesował się tym tematem już jako kapłan archidiecezji katowickiej, opracowując materiały zawierające strukturę i treść nauk przedślubnych i kursów przedmałżeńskich. Idee wówczas wypracowane leżały u podstaw jego działalności jako biskupa od 1958 r. Stanął on na czele Komisji Episkopatu do spraw Duszpasterstwa Rodzin, której przewodniczył przez pierwszą kadencję w latach 1965-1970, opracowując m.in. „Pierwszą instrukcję Episkopatu Polski dla duchowieństwa o przygotowaniu wiernych do sakramentu małżeństwa i duszpasterstwa rodzin”. Najważniejszą zasługą bpa Wilhelma Pluty w omawianym obszarze jest rozwój współczesnych kursów przedmałżeńskich i poradnictwa rodzinnego. Bp Pluta miał w sferze przygotowania do małżeństwa dobrze przemyślaną wizję strategiczną, która obejmowała wiele elementów, począwszy od wychowania maleńkich i starszych dzieci, poprzez kursy przedmałżeńskie i nauki przedślubne aż do duszpasterstwa małżeństw, łącznie z tworzeniem w parafiach elity rodzin katolickich, świadomie dążących do świętości poprzez życie rodzinne. Nie tylko miał wizję, ale faktycznie starał się wcielać ją w życie, m.in. opracowując potrzebne materiały dydaktyczne i szkoląc duchowieństwo i świeckich, co w latach sześćdziesiątych XX w. było wielką nowością. Bp Pluta brał aktywny udział w synodzie biskupów na temat rodziny w Rzymie w 1980 r. akcentując sprawę wnoszenia wartości Bożych w życie rodzinne. Po dziś dzień większość jego idei i wskazań w sferze duszpasterstwa rodzin pozostaje aktualnych.
    Bishop Wilhelm Pluta (1910-1986) was one of the precursors of the modern pastoral care of families in Poland. He was interested in this subject already as a priest of the Archdiocese of Katowice, developing materials containing the structure and the content of premarital courses. The ideas developed in that period were the guidelines of his activities as bishop since 1958. He became the first chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Pastoral Assistance to Families (1965-1970), drawing „The first instruction of the Polish Episcopate for clergy about preparing the faithful to the sacrament of marriage and the pastoral care of families”. The most important achievements of Bishop Wilhelm Pluta in this area are the development of modern premarital courses and family counseling. Bishop Pluta presented a wellconsidered strategic vision in the area of marriage preparation, which included many elements, starting from education of children, through premarital courses up to the pastoral care of families, including the creation in parishes of the elite of catholic families, consciously striving for holiness in their family life. Not only had he the vision, but he actually put it into practice, by developing teaching materials and training clergy and lay people, which was a great novelty in those years. Bishop Pluta took an active part in the Synod of Bishops on the family in Rome in 1980, stressing the problem of bringing God’s values into family life. To this day, most of his ideas and guidelines in the field of pastoral care of families remain valuable.

    Opis:
    Parenthood is an integral element of conjugal love, which in its unifying aspect manifests its dynamism ad intra, while in its procreative aspect it shows its dynamism ad extra. Living through the procreative dimension is a particularly difficult task for those spouses who experience the drama of infertility. This paper briefly discusses the problem of infertility faced by a significant number of married couples today. It points out that instead of using the term “infertility”, it is better to talk about reduced fertility. The paper also presents the spiritual, psychological and moral difficulties faced by spouses who cannot have biological children. These difficulties are at the same time challenges for the pastoral care of families. The way to overcome these difficulties is to refer to the holistic approach to human fertility and parenthood, which takes into account both the physical and spiritual dimension. In the Magisterium of the Church, this approach to parenthood is expressed in the terms “the genealogy of the person” (Letter to Families), “integral procreation” (The Family and the Human Procreation) and “an expanding fruitfulness” (Amoris laetitia in Latin: amplificata fecunditas). An attempt of practical realization of such an understood holistic approach to parenthood is used in naprotechnology and teaching of fertility recognition with the Creighton Model, the so-called SPICE instruction.
    Rodzicielstwo jest integralnym elementem miłości małżeńskiej, która w aspekcie jednoczącym przejawia swój dynamizm ad intra, natomiast w aspekcie prokreacyjnym ukazuje dynamizm ad extra. Przeżywanie wymiaru prokreacyjnego jest szczególnie trudnym zadaniem dla tych małżonków, którzy doświadczają dramatu niepłodności. niniejszy artykuł omawia w skrócie problem niepłodności, z jakim mierzy się znaczna liczba współczesnych małżeństw. Zwraca uwagę, że zamiast używać terminu „niepłodność”, lepiej mówić o obniżonej płodności. Artykuł przestawia również trudności natury duchowej, psychologicznej i moralnej, przed jakimi stają małżonkowie, którzy nie mogą mieć biologicznych dzieci. Trudności te stanowią zarazem wyzwania dla duszpasterstwa rodzin. drogą przezwyciężenia tych zagrożeń jest odwołanie się do całościowego ujęcia ludzkiej płodności i rodzicielstwa, które uwzględnia zarówno wymiar cielesny, jak i duchowy. W Magisterium Kościoła takie ujęcie rodzicielstwa znajduje wyraz w określeniach „genealogia osoby” (List do rodzin), „prokreacja integralna” (Rodzina a ludzka prokreacja) oraz „płodność poszerzona” (Amoris laetitia, po łacinie: amplificata fecunditas). Próbą praktycznej realizacji tak rozumianego całościowego podejścia do rodzicielstwa jest stosowana w naprotechnologii i nauczaniu rozpoznawania płodności za pomocą Modelu Creighton tzw. instrukcja SPICE.

    One of modern challenges facing not only politicians, economists or sociologists is the demographic makeup of Poland, which is a derivative of tendencies that are visible in the whole of Europe. Demographic changes are not leaving the Church unaffected. One has to take into account the decreasing number of children and the youth, who are the a major target of pastoral initiatives in Poland. The adult and elderly groups existing in the Church will grow, which will create a demand for new and adequate pastoral solutions for them. The pastoral care of families, elderly, lonely and sick will face special challenges. The article attempts to present the lines of development of activities conducted in the mentioned sectors of pastoral care which the Polish Church should pay attention to.

The Church concern for a family is expressed through pre-evangelization, evangelization and catechetic teaching. Family ministry is a tool to carry out this task. However, a family is also a subject of evangelization through performing prophetic, priestly and kingly functions. A family as a home church is the community where one learns how to live in diversity, to belong to others, where parents convey their faith (see EG 66). It is the source of various vocations.

    The challenges that pastoral care in Poland has to face today are not less numerous than at the time when it was established several dozen years ago. It seems that we should begin our survey of these challenges from inidicating a group of challenges that may be called challenges to marraige and family. Here we find that the structure of marriage as a relationship between heterosexual persons: a husband and wife is more and more commonly questioned; marriage is questioned as the foundation of family; the processes of marital disintegration increase, divorces and remarriages; free unions that last for years. The causes for this group of challenges as ideaological or practical. Another group of challenges consists of separation due to economic reasons, mainly going abroad to work. This causes the increasing process of marrital disintegration, rapid growth of social orphans, old parents and often ill are left unattended by their adult emigrating children. It follows from job problems that the competitive model of interpersonal relations is extrapolated on the marrital bond. We have to add the issues of psychological and physical violence in the family, abortion and calls to legalise euthanasia. A further group of challenges consists of those related to sexual activity. Contraceptive mentality and practices are popular, the phenomenon of marrital infertility is increasing, life is conceived beyond its natural and marrital milieu. In view of the above challenges, pastoral care for families in Poland should change its legal-moral categories of marriage and family iinto sociological and theological, it should purify the image of God from its anthropomorphic elements. It depends much on this image that man can understand himself and build his marrital relationship. Another important issue is to link theological knowledge and adequate aspects of the particular sciences. This link must be methodologically correct in pastoral care. Theological knowledge shows a model of marriage and family, whereas the particular sciences provide practical solutions how to accomplish this model. All this calls for an ordering of basic concepts of marriage and family, as there is much disorder there. Eventually, such actions should bring about milieus of support for the family that would make it easier to defend the principal Christian values.

    The article presents the founding idea of pastoral care of families as a sub-field of practical theology as well as its significance for the saving work of the Church. The issue is presented in several stages. The starting point is a reflection on the notion and unique nature of pastoral care of families, then it is presented as a scientific discipline but also an important element of the saving activity of the Church focused on the family. Also, the main areas of concern are outlined. The highlight of the article is point 5 attempting to show the idea of having a textbook for family pastoral work, an aid that has never been conceived in Poland. In fact the presentation is not a mere outline but quite a concrete and detailed plan.

    Die Krise von Ehe und Familie in der westlichen Kultur war Hintergrund der Forschung. Ziel war es, das Prinzip der Barmherzigkeit auf die Seelsorge von Familien anzuwenden. Es wurde eine Methode zur Analyse des Inhalts der Lehre von Papst Franziskus verwendet, insbesondere seine nachsynodalen Schreiben Amoris laetitia. Das Ergebnis der Analyse ist der Entwurf einer neuen Strategie der Familienseelsorge. Die Analyse kommt zu dem Schluss, dass Barmherzigkeit unter den gegenwärtigen soziokulturellen Bedingungen das Leitprinzip in der Familienseelsorge ist. Dieser Grundsatz sollte in der Beziehung zwischen dem Pastor und den Ehepartnern, in der Beziehung der Ehepartner zueinander und ihrer Kinder, Ehepartner und Familien zu anderen Ehepartnern und Familien gelten.
    Tłem badań był kryzys małżeństwa i rodziny w krajach kultury zachodniej. Celem była aplikacja zasady miłosierdzia do duszpasterstwa rodzin. Zastosowana została metoda analizy treści nauczania papieża Franciszka, a szczególnie jego adhortacji apostolskiej Amoris laetitia. Wynikiem przeprowadzonej analizy jest zarys nowej strategii duszpasterstwa rodzin. Z przeprowadzonej analizy nasuwają się wniosek, że w obecnych uwarunkowaniach społeczno-kulturowych miłosierdzie jest zasadą wiodącą w duszpasterstwie rodzin. Zasada ta powinna znaleźć zastosowanie w relacji pomiędzy duszpasterzem a małżonkami, w relacji małżonków względem siebie i swoich dzieci, małżonków i rodzin względem innych małżonków i rodzin.
    The crisis of marriage and family in Western culture provides the background for the research. The aim of the study is to apply the principle of mercy to the pastoral care of families. The method of analyzing the content of the teaching of Pope Francis is used, especially his apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia. The results obtained in the analysis constitute the outline of a new family pastoral strategy. The analysis concludes that mercy is the guiding principle in family pastoral care in the current socio-cultural conditions. This principle should apply in the relationship between the pastor and the spouses, in the relationship of the spouses with respect to each other and their children, and between the spouses and their families relating to other spouses and families.

    Invoking the pastoral constitution in the contemporary world Gaudium et spes it may be concluded that the Church, proceeding the Christ's work, is obliged to study and interpret the signs of the times in the clear light of the Gospel. It should be done so as to answer the modern men questions and to come up to men’s expectations in the most effective way adapted to theirs mentality. (Vgl. GS 4). (Zur Erfüllung dieses ihres Auftrags obliegt der Kirche allzeit die Pflicht, nach den Zeichen der Zeit zu forschen und sie im Licht des Evangeliums zu deuten). In the creative tension the Church- the World, there is the pastoral work undertaken. It is the organized Church activity, carrying the Christ redemptive work out through preaching the word of God, the Liturgy, ministry and testimoning to the Christian life. There is the need for adaptation to new, constantly changing conditions. Otherwise, even the most effective ways of the Church activity are in danger of ossification and maladjustment to the various modern challenges. The Church is faced with a task to get to know and understand the World, to which it is sent by Christ himself. One of the modern challenges is the demographical situation of Poland, which is the reflection of the European tendencies. The problem mentioned above is crucial not only for politicians, economists and sociologists but also for the ministry. The European and Polish societies are getting older. This phenomenon generates many various social problems which influence the pastoral activity of the Church. The given phenomenon analysis, presented in the following article, requires the research of the consequences that arose due to the demographical situation of Europe and Poland. What is more, it requires the presentation of some possible pastoral care initiatives (concerning families and the elders) as well as conducting charitable activities. Furthermore, the analysis shows the actions, that should be taken into consideration by the Polish Church while preparing pastoral programmes.

    Opis:
    II Sobór Watykański miał przede wszystkim charakter pastoralny, o czym świadczy konstytucja Gaudium et spes. Ten dokument kwestię małżeństwa i rodziny umieszcza na pierwszym miejscu wśród problemów palących współczesnego świata i poświęca jej obszerny fragment swojej refleksji (KDK 47-52). Autor w swoim artykule uzasadnia tezę, że ten właśnie fragment miał istotny wpływ na koncepcję i działalność duszpasterstwa rodzin w Polsce. Soborowe nauczanie na temat małżeństwa i rodziny znalazło miarodajną interpretację i rozwinięcie w dokumentach papieży: Pawła VI (głównie encyklika Humanae vitae) i Jana Pawła II (zwłaszcza adhortacja Familiaris consortio, encyklika Evangelium vitae, List do rodzin). Nauczanie papieskie pozwoliło duszpasterstwu rodzin głębiej zrozumieć sens przesłania soborowego oraz lepiej wcielić je w życie. Jednak łatwiej było przedstawić doktrynę Kościoła katolickiego w zakresie małżeństwa i rodziny, trudniej natomiast przekonać młodzież, narzeczonych i małżonków do zastosowania jej w życiu. Pierwsza część artykułu zawiera analizę nowych aspektów nauczania soborowego na temat małżeństwa i rodziny. Wymownym przykładem było przejście od czysto prawnego ujęcia istoty małżeństwa, zawartego Kodeksie Prawa Kanonicznego (CIC) z 1917 r. do koncepcji małżeństwa jako wspólnoty życia i miłości. W sposób wyraźny akcent został położony na miłości, jako istotnego elementu sakramentu małżeństwa. Jan Paweł II określił to terminem communio personarum. Swoiste credo polskiego duszpasterstwa rodzin zostało wyrażone w wystąpieniu Jadwigi i Jacka Pulikowskich – audytorów podczas Synodu Biskupów o rodzinie w 2015 r. Autor przytacza treść ich wystąpienia. Druga część artykułu analizuje fragment soborowego dokumentu Gaudium et spes, zatytułowany De matrimonii dignitate i ukazuje jego implikacje w polskim duszpasterstwie rodzin. Jest ono cennym dowodem troski Kościoła o tę podstawową komórkę każdego społeczeństwa, jaką stanowi rodzina.
    The Apostolic constitution Gaudium et spes of the Second Vatican Council indicates its pastoral nature. This document places the matter of marriage and family as the first one among the important problems of the modern world and dedicates a significant portion of its reflection to it (nos. 47-52). The author of this article makes the point that this part had an essential influence on the concept and activity of pastoral care of the family in Poland. The teaching of the Second Vatican Council on marriage and family was later authoritatively interpreted and developed in Papal documents: Paul VI (mainly in the encyclical letter Humanae vitae) and John Paul II (especially in the Apostolic exhortation Familiaris consortio, the encyclical letter Evangelium vitae, and Letter to the Families). Papal teaching has allowed the pastoral care of the family to deeper understand the message of the Second Vatican Council and to better incorporate it into everyday life. But it was easier to present the doctrine of the Catholic Church on marriage and family than to convince the youth, betrothed and married couples to apply it in life. The first paragraph of the article contains an analysis of the new aspects of the Second Vatican Council’s teaching on marriage and family, the second paragraph studies the part of the apostolic constitution Gaudier et spes, entitled De matrimonii dignitate and shows its implications in the pastoral care of the family in Poland.

    Opis:
    Artykuł jest próbą ukazania roli narzeczeństwa jako szczególnego czasu kształtowania się postawy otwartości na życie. Współcześnie obserwuje się tendencje przeciwne takiej postawie. Odkładanie decyzji o poczęciu dziecka, ograniczanie liczby dzieci w rodzinie czy coraz bardziej powszechne stosowanie antykoncepcji, to podstawowe przejawy zmian na polu życia rodzinnego. Artykuł podejmuje polemikę z takim stanem rzeczy. Okres narzeczeństwa jest wnim ukazany jako jeden z etapów życia rodzinnego, który jest szczególnym czasem przygotowania do pełnienia roli męża i żony oraz ojca i matki. Jest to etap, na którym powinno odbywać się kształtowanie postawy otwartości na życie, a przez to przygotowanie do przyszłej prokreacji. Główny akcent tego przygotowania położony jest na dialogu narzeczonych, którzy otwarcie omawiają takie kwestie, jak: liczba dzieci, postawa wobec antykoncepcji czy zapłodnienia in vitro, a także sprawy trudne, czyli na przykład sytuację potencjalnej niepłodności. W toku formowania postawy otwartej na życie duże znaczenie ma rodzina pochodzenia i wyniesione z niej wzorce, które podlegają weryfikacji w okresie narzeczeństwa. Swoją rolę odgrywa tu także duszpasterstwo rodzin, które organizuje bezpośrednie przygotowanie do małżeństwa. Artykuł może stać się przyczynkiem do zweryfikowania przez narzeczonych własnej postawy otwartości na życie, ale jednocześnie stanowi wstęp do szerszego namysłu naukowego nad znaczeniem okresu narzeczeństwa w przygotowaniu do małżeńskiej prokreacji.
    This paper is an attempt to present the role of engagement as a period when an open attitude towards life is shaped. Nowadays, the tendencies which dominate are quite the opposite. Postponing the decision of conception, reducing the number of children in family or using contraception, which is more and more common these days, are the primary symptoms of changes occurring in family life. This article argues with such state of affairs. It presents the engagement as one of the stages of family life when people can prepare to accept the role of husband or wife, father or mother. It is a period, when the open attitude towards life should be shaped, leading to future procreation. The main point lies in the dialogue between the engaged, who should discuss issues like: the number of children, the attitude towards contraception or in vitro fertilization, as well as difficult situations, such as potential infertility. In the process of shaping this open attitude towards life, two more aspects play vital role – the background and certain models of family life learnt in our families, which are verified in the engagement. Also, pastoral care of families performs a significant role by running courses related to direct preparation to marriage. This paper can be a starting point for the engaged to verify their attitudes towards life, but it is also an introduction to a wider scientific discussion related to the role of engagement in preparation to procreation in marriage.

    Opis:
    The Institute of the Holy Family is a secular institute of consecrated life, thus bearing out the Church’s contemporary thought on sanctification and evangelization. The institute was founded by Archbishop Kazimierz Majdański and Dr Monika Wójcik. Its particular charisma is that total consecration to the Holy Family and thence service aimed to the rescuing and rediscovery of the contemporary family. The Institute just like Faculty of Family Studies is the next step in the formation of the Work of Mercy promised during the Second World War by Polish priests imprisoned in a German concentration camp Dachau. The members of the Holy Family Institute serves families in the spirit of the Church’s teaching on marriage and family. The paper will be discussed: the creation, charisma and spirituality of the Holy Family Institute and the forms of ministry: working for the Institute / Faculty of Family Studies, the formation of families in the Foci of the Holy Family, the Family Support Foundation and other works of members of the Institute.
    Instytut Świętej Rodziny jest instytutem świeckim życia konsekrowanego, jako taki realizuje nową myśl Kościoła o uświęceniu i ewangelizacji. Instytut został założony przez ks. arcybiskupa Kazimierza Majdańskiego i dr Monikę Wójcik. Jego własnym charyzmatem jest całkowite oddanie Świętej Rodzinie, a poprzez to oddanie posługa na rzecz ratowania i odrodzenia współczesnej rodziny. Instytut, tak jak Wydział Studiów nad Rodziną UKSW, jest kolejnym etapem powstawania Dzieła Miłosierdzia przyrzeczonego podczas II wojny światowej przez polskich kapłanów więzionych w niemieckim obozie koncentracyjnym Dachau. Członkowie Instytutu Świętej Rodziny służą rodzinom w duchu nauczania Kościoła o małżeństwie i rodzinie. W artykule zostaną omówione: powstanie, charyzmat i duchowość Instytutu Świętej Rodziny oraz formy posługi: praca na rzecz Instytutu / Wydziału Studiów nad Rodziną, formacja rodzin w Ogniskach Świętej Rodziny, działalność Fundacji Pomoc Rodzinie i inne zaangażowania członków Instytutu.
