    Each nation is distinguished by a specific historical and cultural tradition that is expressed in its linguistic, literary, living and existential achievements and works. These achievements and works contain various characteristics of peoples’ lives, various subjects of human existence, including the subject of disability. This article attempts to outline the image of people with disabilities in selected folk Warmian fables and fairy tales and in the fables by the outstanding Enlightenment poet bound up with Warmia – Ignacy Krasicki.

    Opis:
    The Journey Motif in the Polish and Hugarian Fairy Tales This article presents the comparative analysis of the journey motif in two Polish fairy tales and in the Hungarian one. Polish fairy tales are Siostra siedmiu kruków (The Sister of the Seven Ravens) by Janina Porazińska and Żelazne trzewiczki (The Iron Bootees) by Hanna Januszewska; the Hungarian one is Żelazny Laczy (Iron Laczy), which has no known author as it is the classic folk tale. The journey or peregrination motif is one of the most popular fairy tales motifs around the whole world. The journey in fairy tales and folk tales always has the symbolic meaning as well as the literal one and is the expression of the protagonist’s inner development. The purpose of the article is to show the symbolic meaning of the peregrinations and journeys in the fairy tales including the notion of the rite of passage (rites de passage) and elements od psychoanalisis.

    The main aim of the article is to show the functioning of bajarze in Polish culture, understood not as storytellers, but as collections of fairy tales. They began to be published in the 19th century and continue to be published today. The first Bajarz polski by Antoni Józef Gliński was created in 1853, and the latest, Współczesny bajarz polski, by Zuzanna Orlińska – in 2021. Over the centuries, many other collections of tales were released: their main goal has been to popularize Polish and/or folk traditions. The article presents known collections and shows their changing functions.
    Podstawowym celem artykułu jest pokazanie funkcjonowania w kulturze polskiej bajarzy rozumianych nie jako gawędziarze, ale zbiory baśni. Zaczęto je publikować w XIX w. i wydaje się je aż do tej pory. Pierwszy, Bajarz polski Antoniego Józefa Glińskiego, powstał w 1853 r., ostatni zaś, Współczesny bajarz polski  Zuzanny Orlińskiej, w 2021 r. Na przestrzeni wieków powstało wiele innych bajarzy, których głównym zadaniem bya popularyzacja polskich bądź/i ludowych tradycji. W artykule zaprezentowano znane zbiory i ukazano ich zmieniające się funkcje.

    Opis:
    Children’s books have always courted controversy, from nineteenth-century debates on the dangers of fairy tales to publications of the last fift y years that have off ered a challenge to the notion of what might be suitable literature for the young. Such a description will not surprise anyone familiar with the ideologically ambivalent or contradictory ideas about childhood that are articulated and negotiated in children’s fiction, and aware of the degree to which children’s writers in general have taken the conflicts and political realities of modern history as their manifest topics. This paper will address controversial subject matter and a source of interest of much contemporary children’s literature, the fictional coverage of familial and postcolonial conflicts, and will question traditional assumptions about children’s literature as an apolitical genre. It proposes that children’s texts are now in a position to envision new modes of response or resistance, challenging the uneven power relations of colonialism. More specifically, it will demonstrate how Farmer’s novels have questioned the dominant discourses that constitute cultural givens yet sometimes straddled the border between subversion and an uneasy complicity. The argument investigates what these texts have to say about colonial histories, relations of colonial power, and the projected futures of postcolonial societies. The African novels of Nancy Farmer, I will argue, raise postcolonial issues with a mix of compliance with and resistance to colonial ideologies.
