In the article Plunging into the city as a remedy for emptiness in the work of Giovanni Agnoloni, Karolina Kopańska analyzes the experience of emptiness resulting from traumatic personal experiences (death of a loved one, separation, disappearance) in an urban space. The purpose of the chapter is to try to zoom in on the relationship that connects man and city. Numerous studies in this area suggest a close relationship and mutual penetration, in which the city and man become a common space of experience. The author proposes that plunging into the city can help with feelings of loss. As a case study, the author analyzes the work of the Italian writer Giovanni Agnoloni (Sentieri di notte, Il sepolcro del nuovo incontro, Viale dei silenzi), who deals with the subject of experiencing emptiness in the city in almost all of his novels. Agnoloni's city is a post-modern city, a dystopian landscape of abandoned places, covered in fog or in the chaos of daily traffic. This image of the city is in harmony with the broken psyche of heroes in despair. Nevertheless, going to the city creates a chance for a new beginning for the heroes. In the article, the author first focuses on the micro space of the city, which is home – here understood as a synonym of isolation and closure. Next, she considers the role of the city as a storage for memories. Finally, she determines where the characters from Agnoloni's novel draw their energy from. The author describes the process of passing the experience of emptiness in an urban space and indicates the role of the city in this process.

School is a complex system, inseparable from the specific context of here and now. Each day involves immersing in the course of particular events which are the result of multiple interactions at school. Time is what binds all the events taking place at school, and the category of time makes multi-level and multi-aspect analysis of school reality possible. The aim of the article is to reflect on the author’s own practice of phenomenographic studies of daily school time, to show the doubts occurring as part of the studies and to present the decisions taken. The text is the analysis of key elements of planning the studies, carrying them out and analyzing the results.

Socjologowie religii zgodnie zdają się twierdzić, iż tożsamość duchowa jednostek i grup przestaje być budowana na gruncie wartości religijnych, a coraz częściej w oparciu o treści, które lansują nowoczesne media. To nowe technologie, świat cyfrowy przeobrażają społeczeństwa i zmieniają optykę postrzegania oraz ocenę zarówno rzeczywistości materialnej, jak i niematerialnej, by niekiedy wprost zakwestionować transcendentny Autorytet. W kontekście tychże zmian zasadne wydaje się dziś pytanie o istotę i miejsce doświadczenia religijnego w życiu jednostki i o jej stosunek do sacrum. Stąd też kluczowym przedmiotem niniejszego opracowania jest owa dymensja religijności – zaproponowana przed laty przez Glocka i Starka – która najbardziej wymyka się prostym, statystycznym analizom i opisom, a będąc silnie spersonalizowana, jednocześnie wskazuje na głębokie przeżycia wewnętrzne. Jednak mimo tego, iż doświadczenie religijne – pozostając jednym z najintensywniejszych doznań, a te, jak wiadomo, są trudne badawczo do uchwycenia – najczęściej lokuje się w obszarze eksploracji psychologii, to przecież posiada również uwarunkowania społeczne, stając się także przedmiotem zainteresowania socjologii. Potwierdzają to przywołane orientacje teoretyczne i empiryczne, które dodatkowo dowodzą złożoności oraz wielowymiarowości tegoż zjawiska.
In modern societies, unlike traditional ones, the religious interpretation of everyday life is no longer as obvious and common as it used to be. Sociologists of religion seem to agree that the spiritual identity of individuals and groups is no longer built on religious values, but more and more often on the content disseminated by modern media. It is new technologies and the digital world that transform societies, changing the optics of perception and assessment of both material and immaterial reality. Media-based content sometimes directly questions the transcendent Authority. In the context of these changes, it seems reasonable to ask about the essence and place of religious experience in the life of a contemporary individual, and about their relationship to the sacred. Hence, the key subject of this study is the dimension of religiosity – as proposed years ago by Glock and Stark – which eludes simplex, statistical analysis and description. Being strongly subjective, it pinpoints to deeper inner experiences. Religious experience – as one of the most intense human experiences, and the one known to be most difficult to research – is most often located in the area of psychological explorations. Nonetheless, it is subject to complex social conditioning as well, which makes it a legitimate object of sociological investigations. This is confirmed by the referenced theoretical and empirical orientations, which additionally prove the complexity and multidimensionality of the phenomenon under study.

The COVID-19 pandemic has leftits mark on higher education, including first-year university students. The transition to online education has been particularly challenging for the University of Silesia and, to a far lesser extent, the International University of Applied Sciences. This study examines the academic experiences of first-year students entering university in the academic year 2020/2021. This article presents the results of a comparative study conducted on a sample of N=185 students from the University of Silesia (Poland) and N=120 students from the University of Applied Sciences (Germany) using an online questionnaire. The research showed that German students ranked the investigated issues higher; this does not mean that the University of Silesia provides a lower level of support, but that the information strategy and support elements are different.

Otherness is encountered, noticed and, as the case may be, analyzed in a relation, because it is in a relation that the identity of I and the identity of You is revealed, and our identity is basically rooted in the individual constitution of a specific I and a specific You. The aim of the present study is to probe the phenomenon of otherness (alterity), and through it the fundamental question of who is the other we encounter, and next to show the main ways of experiencing the encounter with the other, whichalways occurs in the sphere of good and evil. In Józef Tischner’s view the experience of the other is a fundamental one, in that it reveals much of our own self-experience. My encounter with the other also throws into relief myself as the other and the fact that his otherness is different from mine. In the beginning of this discovery of otherness, the gap between I and You appears to be unbridgeable. But Tischner believes that the sensation of separateness and even of “being alien” assumes a kind of similarity,with the proviso that the latter occurs on the plane of our mutual being foreach other. Tischner stresses otherness in similarity and similarity in otherness, both constituted and coexistent in the relation between I and You. Tischner’s idea involves a paradox: to open oneself to the alterity of the other, we have in a way to “bear” our own otherness and thereby to come to be “for the other”.

Outdoor and adventure education in Poland is still developing and begins to function outside the community of practitioners. Polish researchers mostly rely on the English-language studies, which are based on the British and American experiences, but they fail to notice that the Czech achievements are comparable to the ones in western countries. Moreover, experiences of Poland’s southern neighbours are closer to ours, and thus – the methods used may be more relevant to the Polish conditions. The article describes the development and current state of the outdoor and adventure education as a science in the Czech Republic and presents the achievements of the main centre, ‘PŠL’, which initiates most activities in this field. The study asks questions about the sources of the Czech experience education, terminology, as well as developed methods and techniques of activities.

Bóg jest współ-doświadczany; jest dostrzegany jako współ-działający, inicjujący życie w pełni, jako pełne obietnicy wyzwanie, aby zawierzyć temu, co – używając języka Nowego Testamentu – Bóg pragnie zapoczątkować z ludźmi jako swoje królestwo.
Experiences are challenges in the field of learning. Experience means in this meaning seen and understand how man in the face of what he meets should rework his assumptions, imaginations and attitudes. Bible is witnessing experiences of God, in which God is always seen as a challenge for the renewal of life and has provoked processes of learning which lead to a newly seen of God, man and world. God is experienced "with", God is seen as working "with", as one how initiates full life, as a challenge full of promise that calls to entrust to him all what – in the words of the New Testament – God wants to begin for building his kingdom with his people.
Erfahrungen sind Lern-Herausforderungen. Eine Erfahrung machen heißt in diesem Sinne wahrzunehmen und zu verstehen, wie ich angesichts des mir Widerfahrenen meine Annahmen, Vorstellungen und Einstellungen umarbeiten muss. Die Bibel bezeugt Gotteserfahrungen, in denen jeweils Gott als Herausforderung zur Erneuerung des Lebens wahrgenommen wurde und einen Lernprozess provozierte, der Gott, die Menschen, Geschichte und Welt neu sehen lehrte: Gott wird mit-erfahren; er wird wahrgenommen als der Mit-Wirkende, das Leben in Fülle Initiierende, als die verheißungsvolle Herausforderung, sich auf das einzulassen, was er – neutestamentlich gesprochen – als sein Reich mit den Menschen anfangen will.

The article presents the practice of subjectivizing scientific creativity by referring to the role of intuition in the creation process, introspective reports and comments on spatial information processing. One of the main emphases is placed on the interaction between the author’s sense of subjectivity with the idea generated and developed by him, as well as on how the reader senses this interaction. These findings became the basis for adopting assumptions about individual and disciplinary differences in strategy and the intensity of the subjectivization of scientific texts by creators and recipients. The article was prepared in a performative and dialogical formula.

Outstanding Ukrainian educator Anton Makarenko created children’s labor colonies, which applied at that time innovative methods of raising children, and passed the severe street school. He trained many individuals who actively participated in the reconstruction of industry and agriculture. The authors of this article share their personal experience of establishing the street children rehabilitation center of the 90s, in which they used methods, which are mainly based on the well-known method of education of Makarenko.

The aim o f this article is to look from an existential point of view at the metaphysical argument from language to reality. The main questions are as follows: does language reflect the structure of reality? or is it rather a tool that enables us to perform certain actions, like the action of proving a thesis? and can we, by investigating the nature of language arrive at truths about extralinguistic reality? Those issues are taken up with respect to insights gained by Parmenides, Wittengenstein and Barańczak, a contemporary Polish poet and translator. For Parmenides language is not an autonomous domain but is conjugated with external reality, so by discovering the rules that govern the attribution of meaning to linguistic utterances we can reach beyond phenomena towards the nature of the world as such. Contradictory statements are then seen to result from the aspectuality of particular accounts, whereas in being conceived in its entirety there is no self-contradiction but only degrees of properties. Parmenidean metaphysics is of interest to us here in connection with his concept of the relationship between a word and its referent, whereby it is possible to infer the essence of the thing picked out by a word from the established rules of its correct usage. Ludwig Wittgenstein is a philosopher whose impact on thinking about the metaphysical consequences of language is not to be overlooked. His position concerning the very possibility of metaphysical claims splits into two standpoints, expressed in his two basic works: Tractatus logico- philosophicus and Philosophical Investigations. Tractatus is Parmenidean in its presupposed isomorphism between the structure of language and the world, as well as in assuming that the substance of the world determines the logical space of all possibilities and that it is eternal and unchangeable. On the other hand, however, we do not have an access to the comprehensive state of things denoted as «the world» in its material mode, and therefore we have no basis for deciding which metaphysical statements are its true formal representations. That is why on the level of logic people can arrive at mutually exclusive metaphysical claims, as shown by Plato in the ending of his Parmenides. In Philosophical Investigations Wittgenstein considers, among others, the role of prototypes in the process o f transmitting/learning the meaning of words whereby the objects of experience can be categorized. He also reflects on language as an act governed by autonomous rules which are accepted by users, a theory which he called language games. What underlies both these issues is the question of an element o f identity between language and extralingustic reality. The answer that this element consists in the logical form of an utterance whereby reality is supposed to be mapped by a sentence becomes problematic in the light o f the discovery o f the ambiguity of an image when it is placed in two different contexts that contain different prototypes of reference for the sign under consideration. In reading a particular notation as a mapping of a specific state of things, one’s knowledge of the rules of notation plays an important role as it enables one to recognize the content that one already knows. The rules that impose interpretation on reality constitute a broadly understood grammar. They are autonomous relative to reality so when we utter a sentence the words obtain their meaning depending on how they are used. This does not translate into a referentially understood meaning, because what turns out to be important is the sense of the word, i.e. the way in which it is used by the speaker. Self-aware poetry seeks sense in links between the word and the world, not just within the domain of language itself. Conscious of grammatical rules, it employs them as a tool in overcoming the autonomy of language. This approach is analyzed on the example of an essay on the essence of poetry titled Tablica z Macondo [The Macondo License Plate] by Stanisław Barańczak. He talks in it about a personalized license plate he would devise for himself in order not to forget the most vital truth that enables him to navigate his life. Such a plate would read in Polish ON JEST [HE IS], where - owing to the specificity of the Polish grammar - the third person masculine singular pronoun can stand for the reader (or more generally “the other”), the world, and God (or transcendence). The intended ambiguity of this pronoun makes us realize that although pronouns are substitutes for the noun phrase in a sentence, they are in fact a sort of mental abbreviations that encapsulate more abundant content than a mere 1:1 correspondence with a single noun. Of the two basic functions of pronouns in interpersonal communication: anaphoric and deictic, the latter proves to be more basic as it introduces new objects into the universe of discourse shared by the participants of a conversation. One cannot speak about the meaning o f the pronoun «he», but about the sense in which it is used, and this sense pertains to extralinguistic reality indicated directly by the speaker. The sentence HE IS does not tell us anything about reality unless reality itself is included into the utterance as one of its constituent elements. The triple encounter (the other, the world, transcendence) spelled out by Barańczak in terms of an inclusive unity of experience represented by a single sentence is a manifestation of the metaphysical.

The author deals with the problem of differences in meaning between the concepts of socialization and education. In social sciences, and especially in educational sciences, there is no agreement as to the relationship between the scopes of these two fundamental concepts. The article attempts to overcome these semantic difficulties by adopting an evolutionary perspective in line with the assumption that education emerged as a specific type of socialization in human prehistory. The search of its essential properties (and thus differences), was guided by the cognitive directive of Aristotle, according to which “the best understanding of things is achieved by those who study them at their inception”. The article uses the method of data analysis established in numerous studies on social and cultural human development, starting from the earliest stages of life in primitive groups. Socialization appeared in these groups as a way of transmitting collective experience, and thus culture, necessary for their survival. The continuation of the analysis leads to investigating what factors made this culturation take a different form, namely that of education. As it turns out, this difference is difficult to discern in the intentionality of cultural influences. It appears only when the group becomes aware of the need to adapt adolescents to fulfill various social roles. This already requires going beyond socialization, which is always a spontaneous process including widespread participation of group members in the transmission of an experience that is also common. In order to provide selected group members with selected elements of the experience linked to their social role, the group must appoint competent members for the transfer of the experience selected to perform specific social roles. These activities constitute one more role distinguished in the group – the role of the educator. And the activities that make up their performance are education.

Opis:
The article describes the phenomenon of the Polish TV series Artists. Created by the theater creators Strzępka and Demirski were their TV debut. The series has become iconic among the theater community. Analyzing the series I show its sources, which are stuck in the extraordinary recent development of Polish theater dramaturgy . I also try to show how the series opens the directing to new dimensions of creativity. The changes that have taken place in the Polish theater allow to replace the dominant models of affirmation and subversion with an affective approach to art whose frame I become experience.

This article is a review of English-language texts on the experiences of adolescents with cancer. The aim of the article is to show the adolescents’ experiences of cancer based on available research. The review of texts includes studies conducted in the phenomenological approach. Selection of the texts based on specific criteria was followed by their analysis. The analysis was of qualitative and inductive character. Separate analytical categories are: difficulties in surviving cancer, strategies for coping with the disease and benefits of being sick, experience of support from the family and medical staff.
