Opis:
This paper describes the results of the preliminary experimental research of the HCCI combustion system in a single cylinder research engine fuelled by means of natural gas containing 95% methane. In this research, influence of the initial temperature of the charge and mixture composition on the maximum combustion pressure, maximum speed of pressure growth, selfignition delay time, combustion time, maximum combustion temperature, heat release and combustion efficiency have been studied. The paper contains: description of the engine modification to adopt it for HCCI operation requirements, applied measurements equipment, selected results of the experimental research. The results shows that initial charge temperature and mixture composition (relative air/fuel ratio coefficient) have essential influence on the engine operating results. The experimental research has been conducted for the varied initial charge temperature from 140 centigrade up to 210 centigrade and for varied relative air/fuel ratio coefficient 1=1; 1=1.5; 1=1.7; 1=2. Maximum charge pressure, maximum speed of pressure growth selfignition delay time was rather unaffected on the initial charge temperature increase beyond 200 centigrade. Previous and current author's research works have indicated that extremely low emissions and high combustion efficiencies are possible to reach if homogeneous charge compression ignition is applied.

Opis:
The dual-fuel engine enables application of various fuels. One of such fuels is propane or its mixture with butane (LPG). Application of such fuels results in reduction of engine operation costs. The paper presents effect of application of such fuel in a turbocharged dual-fuel engine on basic operating parameters, exhaust emissions and basic combustion parameters. Test results in the form of load characteristics for various boost ratios obtained for dual-fuel engine were compared to corresponding results obtained for conventional engine operating on diesel fuel only. The obtained results indicate that it is possible a dual-fuel operation with the propane energy share of 70% for maximum engine loads.

Opis:
There are currently many studies undergoing in the field of using alternative fuels for supplying different types of propulsion units. The ASTM standard in the aerospace industry, allows using five different technologies of manufacturing synthetic components apart from standard oil-based fuel for the propulsion of turbine engines (as a blend up to 50% with conventional fuel). One of these is a technology associated with the process of converting alcohols (isobutanol) to jet fuel – Alcohol to Jet (ATJ). In the research performance, emission parameters were measured on laboratory test rig with miniature turbojet engine (MiniJETRig). The test rig has been created in Air Force Institute of Technology for research and development works aimed at alternative fuels for aviation. The miniature engine was fuelled with conventional jet fuel – Jet A-1 and blend of Jet A-1 with 2-ethylhexanol. The results for this blend were compared with the results obtained for neat Jet A-1 fuel in terms of different engine operating modes, according to specified methodology. The conducted tests did not show significant differences in engine operating parameters (thrust, fuel consumption and thrust specific fuel consumption) and the values of CO, CO2 and NOx emission indices between the tested fuels. The engine tests took place in similar ambient conditions. Laboratory tests of selected physicochemical properties were also carried out for both fuel samples.
