Opis:
Decoupling has been diagnosed since the second half of the last century. It is conceived as a kind of separation, appearing in a variety of organisations, in situations in which established principles or rules, aimed at normalising interpersonal relationships or governing the rules of conduct, despite being officially established, are  not implemented. Another situation may also occur. It arises when individuals know and accept the guidelines, but for multiple – often subjective – reasons, they do not materialize as they are blocked by individual decisions. This results in serious consequences of a social, economic, legal or managerial nature. How they be prevented? Solutions based upon ethics seem to be a sound base to counteract the destructive consequences of decoupling. Human conscience is one of the fundamental ethical categories. Deep rooted in every person, it shapes behaviour, even though its impact can also be minimised. It turns out that a properly formed conscience gives better results in personal activity on both the individual and human levels. Also, conscience enables the correct interpretation of what is prohibited and what is expected, and thus becomes the perfect tool for countering decoupling. Finally, it can be assumed that as long as man has a well-constituted conscience and follows its guidance, the negative effects of a split between the recognized rules and their actual observance can be minimised.

Owing to them personal development can be properly oriented and used in the interests of a human being.

The article presents an analysis of the relationship between market as a social and economic sphere and morality as a fundamental aspect of human deeds. It discusses the nature of the market, with a special focus on a person as a main precondition for the existence of the market. The result of the analysis is a pro-posal for a new definition of the market: the market consists in the decisions and actions of persons concerning what product to buy or sell, at what price, where and when.

The radical reformulation of Western philosophy proposed by Emmanuel Lévinas is the move beyond knowledge and being to ethics as metaphysics. For Lévinas this is accomplished as an escape, an evasion of being. Lévinas saw the story of Western philosophy as a tale that Being emanated, created, etc. an illusory pluralism that it will eventually overcome in total unity. “The adventure of the world,” to borrow a phrase from Whitehead, is an accident that does not affect the perfection of Being. Being is and multiplicity is a fall from perfection. The standard eschatological story in the West has been how the separated person makes his way back to harmony with being. Lévinas seeks to tell a different story. He offers an “ethical metaphysics” that is an alternative to ontology. Lévinas’s attempt at an escape from ontology is anticipated by Russian émigré philosophers in Paris in the 1920s and 30s, Lev Shestov and Nicolas Berdyaev. In particular, Berdyaev sought an eschatological escape from the perfection of Being.

The second part of this paper based on personalism demonstrates that science can harmoniously develop only in the climate of internal-moral freedom of scientist. The purpose of science is revelation of truth, but effects of scientific investigations – in particular of biological-medical sciences – influence on the life of human individuals and societies. Conscious and free activity of man has ethical character, therefore liberty of science ought to be responsible liberty and then to be subordinated the ethical criterions. Science cannot ignore values and rules moral. The third part of paper stated that good of human person and common good of society demand juridical limitations of scientific inquiries’ liberty. Liberty is man’s right but also its obligation to respect of human person’s fundamental rights – including right to life, integrality and dignity. Therefore internal-ethical and external-juridical limitations are necessary of scientist’s liberty.

The paper shows that the critical analysis of Max Scheler’s and Immanuel Kant’s concepts of moral philosophy was a starting point of Karol Wojtyła’s own positive project of anthropology presented in the book The Acting Person. Its core lies in the recognition of the significance of human efficacy: human persons express and realize their full subjectivity through their actions. Wojtyła shows that genuine human actions are not motivated only by the emotional power with which particular values are given, but rather by the perception of their being true values. In the last analysis, Wojtyła’s theory might be described as transphenomenology, that is, a synthesis of phenomenology and metaphysics. According to him, what is immediately given to the subject can be fully  explained by categories that transcend direct experience. In this way Wojtyła incorporates his vision of anthropology into a broader metaphysics, at the same  time showing that in philosophy one should move from phenomenon to foundation.

This article concerns the way of philosophizing by Karol Wojtyła; a special emphasis is put on the relation between philosophical anthropology and ethics in his thought. The Polish thinker was active in both of them and it seems initially that ethics was his main area of expertise. However, a close examination of select works of Wojtyła confirms that philosophical anthropology was his main field. He was interested in how the person is revealed in his acts, including moral acts. Thus, the person as such remains at the center of attention and reflection of the thinker and his involvement in ethics was to demonstrate how that person matures on the dynamic level. Karol Wojtyła is pre-eminently a philosopher of the human person.

This article explores the topic of persons, community and human diversity. Tracing the roots of the western conception of persons to the Greek and Christian traditions, the author develops a conception of persons as agents and as free and flourishing in mutuality with other persons. Arguing that persons are both individual and social, the author considers persons in intimate communities, societies and religious communities. He argues that seeking to live in relation to others in ways that enable self and other to flourish provides an ontological ground for human behavior that is presupposed in our particular ethical traditions and provides a moral basis for human behavior that may be shared by diverse religious and nonreligious persons.

The theory of values by Max Scheler became one of the most influential theories in XX century. However, the term ‘value’ is insufficient to build a particular moral behavior. Under the Scheler’s concept of ‘value’ there is the concept of ‘love’ by Saint Augustine of Hippo. Thus, if the Augustinian influence is followed, one may go beyond the lacks of the Scheler’s theory. Through these lines one can trace the way leading from the concept of Christian love to the concepts of value, love and person by Scheler. There is, however, a question whether it is possible to teach values. According to the author if values are to be taught, the education of values is to be preceded by teaching love as a virtue.

Ethics in judicial proceedings is a topic of considerable interest that has always sparked debate at the cultural level in general and at the ethical – legal level in particular. Ethics and law are not on different levels, but are interconnected. Judicial proceedings and all those involved in law enforcement cannot be separated from this interconnection and must be impartial, otherwise they undermine the dignity of a legal person and his fundamental rights, such as the right to truth, loyalty, justice, and a democratic and civil cohabitation for an orderly social life.

Ethical reflection is a type of academic deliberation which allows for a deeper analysis of various fields of human activity. It is not afraid to ask difficult, but at the same time fundamental questions about man and the reality in which that man comes to live and work. The following article has as its goal to present the issues of the “world” of finances from the ethical perspective. The first part is an attempt to reply to the question: what in general is financial ethics and what are its main topics which this field deals with? The second part presents chosen problems of a social and moral character in the world of finances. Threats described allow one to justify the necessity to perceive within activities of the financial subjects at least basic ethical values such as honesty or responsibility. The subject of the third part of the report are concrete rules and instruments, whose application contributes to growth in trust between subjects active in financial markets.

But Wojtyła seeks an equilibrium between the a priori of duty (i.e., regardless of experience), on the one hand, and the exclusivity of the a priori values (aside from all normativity), on the other hand. The author concludes that Wojtyła points to the truth of man, which includes a concrete duty to realize the good by the acts of voluntary choice.

Opis:
Taking into consideration the relationship between anthropology and social ethics it seems appropriate to pose the following question: How, in a given society, in view of often controversial anthropological messages, can we introduce ethically and socially justifi ed social relations and on what anthropological foundation should they be based? In modern society Christian social ethics aiming to justify and implement standards, systems and norms, taking part in the public debate concerning bioethical matters regarding the beginning of life, should consider men in an anthropological context and show an anthropological mindset. The concept of person used in anthropology allows to show that human life contains spiritual components which extend beyond biological factors. An ethical consideration of this issue allows to notice that a man can be defined according to a specific moral status. The phrase “man is a person” includes relations between the anthropological definition of man and a moral protection of dignity in society.
