Opis:
A lot of research data is generated during carrying out experiments like for example in case of oscilloscope records. In this huge amount of information a lot of it is irrelevant. Therefore finding the useful information can be difficult. The influence of closing a short- circuit current with an electromagnetic relay on its contacts was tested. During those tests a large amount of data, recorded by oscilloscope, was created. Only a small portion of this information was useful. The problem was to find specific information in all of the gathered data. This article presents the usage of scientific software designed to solve this issue. It also describes the usage of numerical derivate for finding a specific time range of collected waveforms.

Opis:
Electrical contacts are essential part of many electrical appliances, among which are circuit breakers or electromagnetic relays. For their long term usage heat distribution, during normal operation, is a key factor. Heat generated is relative to both the current value and electrical contact resistance. A numerical simulation, using specialized scientific program, is used to observe heat distribution in electrical contacts. This simulation is generated based on real electrical contacts data used in electromagnetic relays.

Opis:
This paper presents technological trials aimed at producing Ag-W, Ag-WC, Ag-W-C and Ag-WC-C composite contact materials and characterizing their properties. These materials were obtained using two methods, i.e. press-sinter-repress (PSR) at the refractory phase content of less than 30% by weight as well as press-sinter-infiltration (PSI) at the refractory phase content of ≥50% by weight). The results of research into both the physical and electrical properties of the outcome composites were shown. They include the analysis of the influence of the refractory phase content (W or WC) on arc erosion and contact resistance changes for the following current range: 6 kAmax in the case of composites with a low refractory phase content, 10 kAmax in the case of composites with the refractory phase content of ≥50% by weight.

Opis:
The article presents the results of laboratory measurements of breakdown voltages in a high-voltage vacuum insulating system for different pressures, contact gaps, type of electrode contacts and type of residual gas inside the discharge chamber. First of all, the electrical strength of the discharge chamber with a contact system terminated with contact pads made of W70Cu30 and Cu75Cr25 material was compared for selected values of contact gaps. It was found that below a pressure of = 3.0×10−1 Pa the electrical strength reaches an approximately constant value for each of the set contact gaps . Analytical relationships were determined to calculate this value for each of the contact pads used. Above a pressure of = 3.0 × 10−1 Pa, the measured values of breakdown voltages decrease sharply. The values of breakdown voltages in the discharge chamber with residual gases in the form of air, argon, neon and helium were also determined for selected values of contact gaps . Depending on the residual gases used, significant differences were noted in the values of pressure at which the loss of insulating properties in the discharge chamber occurred. These values were 3.3 × 10−1 Pa for argon, 4.1 × 10−1 Pa for air, 6.4 × 10−1 Pa for neon, and 2.55 × 100 Pa for helium, respectively.

Opis:
The correlation between the microstructure of Ag-C, Ag-WC-C and AgWC composites and their switching properties was investigated. Two methods were used to manufacture the starting powder mixtures, namely classical milling and mechanical alloying . The arc erosion, contact resistance and welding forces of the contact materials obtained by different methods were measured using model devices. This paper presents the results achieved for the tested materials. It was found that weight loss was lower for the contacts produced by high energy milling.

Opis:
In this work infiltration behavior of mechanical alloyed 75 wt% Cu – 25 wt% WC powders into porous WC compacts were studied. Owing to their ductile nature, initial Cu powders were directly added to mechanical alloying batch. On the other hand initial WC powders were high energy milled prior to mechanical alloying. Contact infiltration method was selected for densification and compacts prepared from processed powders were infiltrated into porous WC bodies. After infiltration, samples were characterized via X-Ray diffraction studies and microstructural evaluation of the samples was carried out via scanning electron microscopy observations. Based on the lack of solubility between WC and Cu it was possible to keep fine WC particles in Cu melt since solution reprecipitation controlled densification is hindered. Also microstructural characterizations via scanning electron microscopy confirmed that the transport of fine WC fraction from infiltrant to porous WC skeleton can be carried out via Cu melt flow during infiltration.
