The article presents selected issues concerning the modelling of the supply chain in the evaluation of the efficiency of tasks realization. In the process of determination, efficiency of the functioning of the supply chain it is necessary to determine the components of both the effects and expenditures in quantitative terms. It is assumed that the effect resulting from action taken depends on the problem under consideration, for example, the result may be the amount of the profits, savings resulting from implemented solutions or measurable improvement of the quality system, expressed e.g. percentage. While the outlay incurred for the implementation of the action is, in general, the expense of implementing this action. The article pointed out that the assessment of the efficiency can be used to decide on the choice of a decision of the many variants of solutions to the problem. In this respect, important are indicators of the efficiency both the technical, economic, quality, and organizational. In the article were also presented possible approaches to improve the efficiency of the supply chain. In the problems of assessing efficiency of functioning of systems with a complex functional structure such as supply, chains increasingly are applicable algorithms based on the so-called heuristics. Hence, in the article briefly have been characterized also chosen heuristic algorithms – genetic algorithms.

Różne ujęcia problemów związanych z efektywnością gospodarowania generują potrzebę wielowymiarowego spojrzenia na tę kategorię, także w kontekście społecznym. Niniejsze opracowanie stanowi próbę zebrania i uporządkowania zróżnicowanej interpretacji efektywności ekonomicznej według studiów literatury przedmiotu, jak również zwrócenia uwagi na rosnące znaczenie i potrzebę równorzędnego traktowania niezwykle ważnej efektywności społecznej.
Efficiency is a frequently used and multi-interpreted concept. It functions in the perspective of various sciences. The economic effectiveness that is commonly mentioned, suggesting the clarification of this term, is also not a guarantee of finding an unambiguous definition. Different views of problems related to the effectiveness of management generate the need for a multidimensional view of this category, also in the social context. This study is an attempt to collect and organize a diversified interpretation of economic efficiency according to the literature on the subject, as well as to draw attention to the growing importance and need for equal treatment of extremely important social efficiency.

The main purpose of this publication was to try systemizing the efficiency per-formance with particular regard to technical efficiency and measurement methods, and to identify the problems in defining and measuring the existing problems. The paper presents definitions of efficiency by selected authors, the classification and characterization of vari-ous types of efficiency made with particular emphasis on technical efficiency, and the basic methods for testing the effectiveness of the division on the indicator parametric and para-metric detailing the different measurement methods. A detailed analysis of the non-parametric methods for testing the effectiveness of technical support is the DEA (Data En-velopment Analysis) method presented with the example of the procedure for calculation of relative efficiency. The study identifies various modifications of the DEA method and also signalled areas where this method can be used to measure the effectiveness of specific enti-ties. The main research method used in the present study was to review and analyze the lit-erature on the subject topic.

The study presents an important part of fourth chapter of the monograph 'Energy Consumption in Relation to Fuel Efficiency Under Complex Driving Conditions' (2003) concerning opportunities to improve vehicle drive efficiency through application, during one phase of driving in neutral in two-phase driving cycle. Theoretical simulation of total energy consumption in vehicles with SI engine provided explanation of a relatively low fuel efficiency observed under real driving conditions in serial cars [1]. The study cites the original method of calculations developed by the author in order to calculate the efficiency of vehicle power unit in two-phase driving cycle assuming that one of the phases might be non-driving. The calculations were made for complex driving conditions, i.e. simulated changes with predefined steps for road slope (-3.5o to 3.5o), acceleration (-0.36-0.36 m/s2) and average speed (60-140 kmph) for a distance of 2x500 m. The results of calculation variants for each type of a drive system of a car proved that there are significant limitations of optimising the fuel consumption of cars. The first one is conditioned by the fact that the engine works at full dynamic load and the second one by the fact that idle running is against the 'Highway Code'.

The issue of eco-efficiency is associated with actions aimed at increasing the productivity of raw materials, natural resources and energy savings in production and at the same time offering environmentally friendly products and services. This kind of action is beneficial to businesses and the environment, as well as the society. By reducing the pressure on the environment, caused by production processes, consumption and investment, it is possible to reduce impact of anthropological risks and simultaneously ensuring ecological safety. This article addresses the explanation of the possible connection of eco-efficiency and ecological safety. Considerations include the issue of terminology, as well as key elements of both concepts. The main thesis is: creating solutions for ecoefficiency is associated with ecological safety.

The article presents the issue of evaluation of economic and non-economic effects of education. We proceed from the basic educational terminology and methods for the evaluation of efficiency of education that may be used in this connection. We compare individual methods in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. In our methodology, we applied the selected methods used in evaluation of investments in the private sector to the environment of the public sector and the field of education. We applied the procedures elaborated in the analytical part of the methodological part to particular values, indicators and the environment of higher education institutions. The analytical part presents evaluation of individual efficiency of investments in all three degrees of higher education, as well as in education in branches of studies at higher education institutions.

The article aimed to specify the complexity of assessing the management’s efficiency of research institutes in Poland, in the context of the implementation of tasks resulting from their principal and ancillary activities, as well as other assignments commissioned by public administration authorities. The author attempted to clarify the concept of efficiency by reviewing the subject literature, to find a standard unit to assess research institutes’ activities in terms of efficiency. The analysis carried out based on a literature review, taking into account the complexity of duties of the research institutes, showed that there was no ultimate typology of efficiency, as research establishments have been set up to carry out a broad range of tasks of an economic, social and scientific nature. For that reason, efficiency can be only assessed against the priority, principal, and commissioned tasks implemented by each institute.
Celem rozważań jest przybliżenie złożoności pomiaru efektywności zarządzania instytutów badawczych w Polsce w aspekcie realizacji zadań wynikających z działalności podstawowej, pomocniczej, jak również innych zadań zleconych przez organy administracji publicznej. Autor przybliża pojęcie efektywności dokonując przeglądu literatury łącząc to z próbą znalezienia wybranej jednostki pomiaru efektywności działalności instytutów badawczych. W wyniku analizy literatury oraz złożoności zadań realizowanych przez instytuty badawcze, autor wnioskuje, że nie ma jednoznacznej typologii efektywności, bowiem jednostki są powoływane w celu realizacji różnorodnych zadań o charakterze ekonomicznym, społecznym oraz naukowym. Tym samym efektywność każdego instytutu może być oceniana przez pryzmat priorytetowych oraz podstawowych i zleconych zadań.

The paper is devoted to some problems connected with last modification of EU directive on energy efficiency, viz.: free choice of the measure concerning the improvement of energy efficiency, i.e. final or primary energy consumption, corresponding energy savings or energy-consumption index; however without cumulative consumption or cumulative savings of primary energy. In EU directive it has been stressed the importance of measurements systems (reliable measurement information); but has not been recommended any advanced validation of measurements results, nor energy auditing or algorithms of calculating the energy savings due to improvement of energy efficiency concerning large industrial plants. Evaluation of complex buildings should be realized by means of the system method (input-output analysis). The separate problem is devoted to application of thermo-ecological approach in the analysis of complete results of improving the energy efficiency. Human activity is connected with the depletion of nonrenewable resources, including primary energy, due to not only production of consumer goods but also the necessity of compensating the unfavourable effects of harmful emissions from energy-technological processes. Therefore the index of energy-ecological efficiency has been proposed as the most competent evaluation of improvement energy efficiency of production processes and systems.

Research background: The insurance market is an important part of the financial system. The international concept of insurance operations brings certainty and helps to balance the economic results. Purpose of the article: The aim of the paper is to compare  the efficiency of life insurance of commercial insurance companies in the Czech Republic and Poland using the Data Envelopment Analysis model (DEA). Methods: The methods used in the paper are descriptive statistics, DEA model and Tobit regression model. DEA models are nonparametric quantitative models for efficiency assessment. They use linear programming to transform multiple inputs into multiple outputs. The efficiency of the subjects analyzed is assessed based on the efficiency scores.  Findings & Value added: The subject of our analysis was 17 commercial insurance companies in the Czech Republic and 26 commercial insurance companies in Poland. Ten insurance companies were efficient on the common Czech-Polish insurance market. The share of efficient insurance companies was approximately equal. The arithmetic mean of the efficiency scores was higher in Poland than in the Czech Republic. The variability of the efficiency scores of Czech insurance companies was greater than the variability of the efficiency scores of Polish insurance companies. The  correlations with efficiency score as the dependent variable and with market share as the independent variable of Tobit regression were very low.

W artykule dokonano pomiaru efektywności 19 szczecińskich liceów ogólnokształcących w 2018 roku za pomocą dwóch modeli DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) zorientowanych na wyniki. Wykorzystano model Cross Efficiency (CE) oraz Game Cross Efficiency (GCE) do oszacowania efektywności krzyżowej. Przeanalizowano efektywność techniczną szkół średnich pod względem ilości (liczby uczniów) i jakości (rankingów edukacji). W zależności od wybranego modelu empirycznego za wyniki przyjęto liczbę uczniów, absolwentów lub wskaźnik rankingowy i średnią wartość matur. Natomiast za nakłady w obu przypadkach uwzględniono liczbę pracowników pedagogicznych. Najniższą efektywnością we wszystkich obszarach – zarówno ilościowych, jak i jakościowych – charakteryzowało się LO Mistrzostwa Sportowego w CMS. Najwyższe wartości efektywności w zakresie ilościowej charakterystyki kształcenia uzyskało I LO, a odnośnie do jakościowego aspektu edukacji – XIII LO. Szkoły, które zdecydowałyby się na strategie braku współpracy z innymi jednostkami, uzyskałyby wyższy poziom efektywności niż w przypadku współpracy wszystkich ośrodków edukacyjnych średnio o 7 p. proc w aspekcie ilościowym i 3 p. proc w jakościowym.
The article measures the efficiency of 19 high schools in Szczecin in 2018 using two DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) models focused on results. The Cross Efficiency model (CE) and Game Cross Efficiency model (GCE) were used to estimate cross-flow efficiency. The technical efficiency of high schools was analysed in terms of quantity (number of students) and quality (education rankings). Depending on the empirical model chosen, the number of students, graduates or ranking index and the average value of high schools baccalaureate were assumed as the results. In both cases, the number of pedagogical employees was taken into account for the inputs. The lowest efficiency in the areas, both in terms of quantity and quality, was observed in the case of LO Sport Championships in CMS. The highest values of efficiency in terms of the quantitative characteristics of education were achieved by the 1st High School, and as regards the qualitative aspect of education at the XIII High School. Schools that opted for non-cooperation strategies with other units would achieve a higher level of efficiency than in the case of cooperation of all educational institutions by 7 p.p. on average in terms of quantity and 3 p.p. in terms of quality.

The conception of an act and its evaluation constitute the most interesting and important moral subject which consists of a complex set of theoretical and practical issues. The article includes St. Thomas’ conception of the definition of the goodness of an act, Tatarkiewicz’s theory of rightness of an act as a source of its evaluation as well as Kotarbinski’s considerations which deal with the analysis of an act from an efficiency perspective. They have all contributed to the definitione of an act in its several variants and provided the possibility of classification of evaluation of an act on the ethical and praxeological plane.

The main subject of theoretical-empirical study presented in this paper is economic efficiency of companies listed on the Polish and German capital market. The discussed research problem was investigated in the form of a comparative analysis and realized in two parts. The discussion presented in the first part depicts mainly theoretical reflections on the essence and assessment measures of companies’ economic efficiency. The second part presents the results of a comparative empirical research on economic efficiency of the companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and included in the WIG30 index as well as the companies listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, which belong to the DAX index. The research period comprises years between 2004-2013. A comparative analysis of economic efficiency of the companies was conducted using a traditional ratio analysis and the nonparametric DEA method. The results of the empirical research confirm that German companies achieved significantly higher values of basic economic categories in the analysed decade, financial results in particular; however, their generated profits did not reflect in higher values of profitability ratios. Polish companies performed much better as they also showed higher efficiency from the DEA’s point of view.

Transportation and delivery play a vital role in the economy, an efficient transportation system has a determining role in it. Its importance is far more significant than what the transportation sectors proportionally represent. The ratio of transportation and warehousing, which belongs to the national economy sector H according to Unified Sectoral Clas-sification System of Economic Activities, in the total output of the Hungarian economy in gross added value of the national economy is 5.7%, its share in employment is 5.9%, and about 5% of active enterprises can be found in this sector (2010 data).
