Opis:
Sustainable development is considered to be one of the most important issues for the future, which is also mirrored in the growing interest in sustainable development in higher education. The change project reported in this article is an example of the efforts made to incorporate sustainability in higher education. The aim of the change project is twofold: the first one is to revise the syllabuses, reference literature, materials, and examinations for courses in Public Administration, so that every course in some way addresses sustainable development. By making sustainable development an integral part of all teaching, the change project highlights how different aspects of sustainability issues are relevant in different contexts. There are three reasons why sustainable development should be explicitly present in all teaching: education for sustainability is important to the university; sustainability is relevant especially for students in Public Administration; and to get all students engaged, education for sustainability requires a pedagogical framework. The second aim of the change project is to lay out the underlying pedagogical framework, which is based on principles found in pedagogical, psychological, and organizational theories. In this successive, integrative approach, the repeated occurrence of sustainability themes in many courses is considered to be a better option than having a single thematic course. In the first phase of the project, during the academic year 2019-2020, three courses were revised to include aspects of sustainability in relation to concepts central to the course.

The article describes the idea of a change project (a new course) in higher education. The aim of the change project is to promote traditional conflict resolution mechanisms and strategies in order to ensure sustainable development in Africa. The new program will combine the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and various conflict resolution scenarios by applying the technique of design thinking. The program will involve discussions about types of conflicts in Africa, the real causes of these conflicts, mechanisms for peaceful conflict resolution (with special emphasis on the rakiré and the palaver tree) and design thinking. The author intends to implement the program at the Faculty of International Relations of the Ivan Franco National University in Lviv.

Completed integration of sustainable values into higher education systems has yet to take place in European Union countries, the further efforts should be implied that sustainable development become an integral part of the academic culture. Education for sustainability is still lacking a consistent interdisciplinary conceptual framework all around European countries. Investigated Study programme of Environmental Engineering for the Sustainable Living Environment was carried out at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania) first cycle Bachelor's studies at Faculty of Environmental Engineering. Involvement of students in research and practical activities was encouraged through team work with projects in all related study subjects, providing research practice and through their final thesis. Students feedback reflected high level of satisfaction of their experience in sustainable development topics, reliable engagement and understanding of the opportunities offered to them by Study Programme related to Sustainable Living Environment topics.

This paper emphasizes the role of universities in encouraging ecological initiatives for sustainable development. We characterized the origin of sustainability and its consistency with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. Moreover, we present ecological education as the concept of lifelong learning in the spirit of respect for the natural world. The examples of pro-ecological higher education initiatives were described, such as Poznan School of Logistics (“EKO-LOG” programme), Jan Kochanowski University of Kielce and the University of Social and Medical Sciences in Warsaw (education of ethnic minorities), Andrzej Frycz-Modrzewski Krakow University and the University of Agriculture in Krakow (Friend of the National Park educational program) as well as the AGH University of Science and Technology (continuing education). It has been shown that schools and universities play a major role in environmental education not only for children, but also adults. It is worth mentioning that the potential and clout of universities should be continuously employed in the environmental movement.

The article aims to show the value of sustainable development in the lives of students in grades 1-3 of primary school. Sustainable development in today's world is present in every sphere of human life, therefore one of the goals of education should be to introduce students to the global goals of sustainable development and their implementation from the youngest levels of education. By conducting three-year action research among students in grades 1-3, sustainable development manifests itself as an internal value related to human activity, his actions and attitude towards the problems of the world and society. The image of the present generation and the next generations of the Earth's inhabitants must take into account the quality of life of the human population as well as the fauna and flora. The awareness of the need to balance these spheres from an early age gives the opportunity to create a conscious and engaged society in the fight for our Mother Earth.

The problem of modern society is that it does not integrate its members into functional systems as a collectivity of individuals with a sense of community and interdependence, but makes them a group of consumers who want to achieve success on their own and for their own benefits. However, not everyone is able to achieve the desired goal. As a result, we have social inequalities that significantly affect relationships and social processes. For many years, economists and sociologists have pointed to the fact that economic success does not necessarily translate into welfare (or quality of life) of societies. They even talk about the “breakdown of society” phenomenon, i.e., an increase in antisocial behaviour and a loss of a sense of community. In the current social reality, we can identify many examples of the fact that their fears are justified. All this makes the need for educational measures to stop or even reverse these phenomena threatening social cohesion seem reasonable.

The idea of sustainable development, typically to mass-integrative social ideas, penetrates all forms of life and universalizes culturally by means of education. What remains permanently important and at the same time distinctive for this idea is the fact that the "sustainability" - a kind of overall permanence which by itself is a development, depends on what the education is and will be like.

Civilization development has led to emerging of many facilities in human life and business, but has also introduced major changes and created a new order that over time has come to be in opposition to nature. The possibility to reconcile ecological, economic and social reasons is to be found in the idea of sustainable development. The prerequisite for achieving sustainable development is education, which is one of the fundamental human rights that enables integral development. The purpose of the study was to verify the role and importance of education in the emergence and implementation of a circular economy idea. As it turned out, research has shown that sustainable development is largely dependent on the implementation of the circular economy in which the education is a fundamental and necessary tool.

Opis:
Rapid progress that emerged in the twentieth century brought not only the intense economic and social development, but also the numerous threats with a strong and largely traumatic potential, that affects not only the whole society, but also each of its members. While thinking about possible threats it is necessary to mention such as a high rate of unemployment, social differentiation, environmental degradation, destabilizing the system, relativization and/or even depreciation of everyday values and many others. There is a need for a wider debate on the future of humanity and the legacy that we leave to future generations. The social changes we observe in fact also applies to the transformations that take place in our families and in the whole system of education. What is necessary is a new look at the whole systemic education, the forms of training of a man that remains open, informed, critical but also creative; somebody who will prioritize the good of others and respect what we have around us. Such education is part of the concept of sustainable development. In this article we make an attempt to examine the opinions of teachers about the sustainable development. We are obviously aware of the size of the group (which is small), but we hope that the paper will be recognized as a form of contribution to the further exploration of research on the subject.
