Opis:
Gdynia, the city born from the sea, is a place where one of the bringing up methods, right since the city was founded, has been so-called naval upbringing. It has been realized in Gdynia’s sailing clubs throughout teaching of both sports and recreational sailing – an offer aimed at the youth. When Poland regained its independence in 1918, a decision was made to build a modern Polish Baltic port – Gdynia and so the rising of naval awareness among the Polish society was activated. The content connected with the naval economy, the sea, education as well as naval upbringing appeared in all actions aimed at the Polish society. Neither The Second World War, nor the difficult post war years did not cease the naval upbringing. Since the very first post war days, not only was the yacht marina began to be built, but also sailing life and culture were reactivated. Polish Yachting Association, or the Scout Maritime Center, later on re-named to become the National Naval Upbringing Center were founded. The naval upbringing, despite many obstacles connected with Poland’s politically and economically unstable history, has been non-stop realized until today. In the article an attempt was made to show that cultivating the naval customs and culture by the older generations of seamen and passing them on to the youth has had an impact on raising modern citizens. While doing the research, methods of literature study and interview were used.

Reading, which is the practice of transferring knowledge through printed word, has never been very popular in Poland. At the root of this situation there laid state as well as peasant and proletarian character of the basic social classes in the past. Further retreat from the books was caused by the development of new media an consumption. Regardless of this, literature had developed the basic canons of values that for centuries have been and still are the basic of general education and culture. The book remains the primary medium of dealing with the past in historical education. The main motives for reading are: scientific (cognitive) and utilitarian (practical) reasons. The first of these relate to the world of scholars, the second shall be extended to all social circles. These include educational, technological, political, cultural, compensational, personal, artistic, ludic and many other motives. A large part of the modern readers use new carriers of the culture of language. They use the digital record. This helps to extend the reach of content and ideas created on the basis of literature. This causes that the alarming diagnosis and visions of readership should be judged with greater serenity and distance.

The establishment of pre-primary educational institutions, brought recognition to pre-schools in most countries as the most appropriate place for the preparation of a child for life and school. From the beginning of institutional or private efforts to educate young children in theory and practical subjects, there were efforts to conceive pre-school educational institutions on the principles of holistic development with a deep understanding of the world of children and their psyche, as well as to prepare suitable teachers for these children. The existence of a pre-school in Trnava, demonstrates that this was in place from the start of the 19th century, and especially in activities of teacher Anthony Rehlingen.

The conversation focuses on the most significant TV programs (individual and series) produced by Słowikowski, as well as figures he considers to be particularly important for various reasons. Overall, it seems difficult to reconcile the prestigious and educational nature of Słowikowski’s productions with the contemporary perception of television as a medium for sensation and entertainment.

The article discusses two works devoted to the women's education and upbringing, written in two different eras. Both books – the treaty by a Spanish secular humanist Juan Luis Vives (1492–1540) De institutione feminae christianae (Bruges 1524) dedicated to the Queen of England, Catherine of Aragon, wife of Henry VIII, and her daughter Mary Tudor, and reference guide for women by a Spanish Jesuit Jorge Loring (1921–2013) Para salvarte. Compendio de las verdades fundamentales de la religión católica y normas para vivirlas (1st ed. 1952) – are advisory in nature. Both authors in a similar way define the role of women in a society. Formulating the recommendations for good Christian women, the authors resort to almost identical argumentation derived from the Bible and the writings of the Church Fathers. They use similar rhetorical devices which are tailored to the current circumstances. Both authors refer to the same authority and show the same examples. The analysis of both works aims to show the immutability of rhetorical practices in the field of advice literature devoted to women.

Egyptian textbooks for Islamic education in state primary schools teach not only religion but also good behaviour, a positive attitude towards Christians, caring about nature and patriotic feelings. One element which is used in teaching and educating children is history: the history of religion and their country. Selected historical facts are used to shape the attitudes of children and teenagers and to teach religion. Egyptian school textbooks are updated every year and sent to pupils at the beginning of each term. This article aims to present the results of the analysis of the contents of the textbooks for Islamic education in Egyptian state primary schools over the last three years – from 2013/2014 till 2015/2016. It shows that elements of history are not only used to teach the history of Islam but also good manners, behaviour and create the good character of young Egyptian citizens since historical figures are role models for children to imitate.
