- By Mark Kotanski: "Drug addiction a word that was associated with us for decades with the worst cases of the human species, compared to a crime, perversion and moral base is really a definition of cruel in its expression of the soul and the body of a man who can not live in the modern world, requiring absolute adapt to tensions, conflicts, rat race, the coveted end to be successful at any cost. "The drugs phenomenon occurred in Poland in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Concerned groups of people especially those who had access to narcotics, including pharmacists, physicians, nurses and artists from different fields of art. "The phenomenon of drug addiction, there were already in the first decades of the twentieth century, dominated the two types of drugs, such as morphine and cocaine, the production was based mainly on imported raw materials." In the early twenties of this century, the most frequently taken were narcotics: opium, morphine, ether, and rarely, almost occasionally, heroin, and peyote. Even then, the Polish legislation (1923) defined the rules on the use and protection of drugs in medicine, but have not been observed too strictly. Drug addiction is one of the most serious social problems in Poland. The main role played by factors associated with major social chan ges over which policy towards drugs was great in the flow. Supply grew with the development of international trade, the growing tourist traffic, the opening of borders, exchange of the zloty and progressive development organized crime.
