This article introduces readers to the problems of mental predisposition for driving a vehicle. It discusses necessary physical and mental abilities which drivers need to behave appropriately during constantly changing road situations. The meaning of those tests for road safety prophylaxis is stressed. The author underlines the special significance of bringing back on 1st January 2004 periodic psychological tests for drivers. Their results are crucial – also for the drivers – in assessing their physical and mental capabilities, which change.

Opis:
Driving a car is a task demanding particular competencies, which include: knowledge, skills and specific personality and mental traits. Every driver should posses: knowledge about traffic law regulations, practical skills of driving a vehicle, ability to predict traffic situations and, what is especially important, self-diagnosis ability. Those skills determine driving safety. Paper presents dangerous and aggressive driving behaviour on the roads. It describes characteristic features of drivers and type of offenses committed by them, as well as recognition of the scale and reasons for aggression in the road traffic. Paper includes detailed research results analyses of aggressive behaviour and its evaluation by road traffic controllers - police (408 persons), and by drivers participating in the demerit points reduction scheme (504 persons). Survey results indicate that drivers consciously break traffic law, underestimate danger, overestimate their own abilities, feel unpunished and they don't know traffic regulations well. All results shows that aggression is a frequent problem, especially concerning 18-39 year old group with wrong attitudes towards others road users. Importance of psychological testing of drivers, necessity of psycho-educational and preventive actions was pointed out in view of these circumstances. Research has allowed determining psychological reasons of the drivers' attitude and behaviour. Conclusions suggest undertaking activities and campaigns whose purpose is to change dangerous attitudes and habits and create re-education systems for the drivers who regularly break road traffic regulations.

Introduction: Motorcycles in Poland become more and more popular also as convenient means of transport, especially in large cities. Factors influencing on driver during riding the motorcycle are assumed to cause spinal pain in motorcyclist. These factors may vary in motorcycles of different construction or purpose. Few information is available about spinal pain connected with riding a motorcycle. The aim of this study was the assessment of occurrence and intensity of spinal pain in motorcyclists depending on motorcycle type. Material and methods: The study group consisted of 2,124 motorcyclists aged 19-79 yrs., using motorcycle with an engine size bigger than 50 ccm and participating in minimum 1 riding season. An original, on-line available questionnaire composed of questions regarding riding a motorcycle and ailments of all parts of the spine was used. The results underwent statistical analysis using the Statistica 10.0. Results: The results showed that 58.4% respondents experienced pain of at least one part of spine during riding the motorcycle. The biggest percentage (51.1%) of persons with spinal pain in general was found out in cross/enduro type users. Neck pain was significantly connected with riding the sport motorcycle (p=0.001). Conclusions: Spinal pain in motorcyclists depends on the motorcycle type.

Opis:
Despite the considerable amount of research on the behaviour of drivers in road traffic the problem of defying psychological and physical features of a good driver is still exactly unsolved. Apart from physical features, which limit or preclude from operating a car, there are psychological traits, which influence drivers’ behaviour. Taking into account three basic aspects of proficiency in driving: physical fitness (determined during the medical examination), mental attitude (determined during the psychological examinations testing of mental predisposition for driving a vehicle), knowledge, skill and attitude of a driver. The mental traits seem to be even more important than physical fitness, knowledge or divers’ skills. This article presents, in particular, reasons for and predictors of risky behaviours in road traffic with a focus on variables of personality features, which potentially are the reason for hazardous behaviour. The results showed the existence of statistically significant differences in temperament and type of psychological gender between drivers demonstrating a tendency to risky behaviour on the road and those who do not have such tendencies. Also the analyses of the researches had given numerous interesting conclusions on relations between personality differences of drivers who like to take risk and the ones who do not have such inclinations. Additionally, the differences of character in the aspect of evaluating behaviours as risky were presented.

Opis:
Drivers suffering from epilepsy are commonly regarded as a threat to road safety. However, inability to use their own means of transport very often implies specific professional effects and lowers the quality of life. The aim of this study was to analyze the driving status of patients with epilepsy in Poland.Material and MethodsThe prospective study was performed using an independent questionnaire developed by the authors, consisting of 4 parts: 1) socio-demographic information, 2) clinical information, 3) driving information, and 4) opinions about patients with epilepsy as drivers. The study was conducted in November 2018–September 2019. A total of 188 patients completed this study.ResultsMore than one-quarter of the patients have a driving license. Among them, 35 individuals (accounting for 18.62% of the whole study group) said that they had received their driving license after the diagnosis of epilepsy. In 10 cases (5.32%), seizures occurred while the patients were driving and in 72 cases (38.30%) while they were traveling as passengers. Among all socio-clinical factors, having a driving license was conditioned by the marital status (p = 0.008) and education (p = 0.007). Other factors did not affect having a driving license or the time of obtaining the license (p > 0.05 for all cases). A relationship was observed between the occurrence of side effects of antiepileptic drugs and the occurrence of seizures while traveling as a car passenger (p = 0.001). Other factors did not affect the occurrence of epileptic seizures while traveling by car, either as a driver or a passenger (p > 0.05).ConclusionsA significant proportion of the respondents were of the opinion that patients with epilepsy should not be allowed to obtain a driving license, which is probably related to concerns about the occurrence of epileptic seizures while driving. It is necessary to conduct a nationwide educational and information campaign on epilepsy in various aspects.

WstępZjawisko choroby symulatorowej jest mierzalne pod względem objawów fizjologicznych. Artykuł prezentuje praktyczne wykorzystanie Kwestionariusza choroby symulatorowej (Simulator Sickness Questionnaire – SSQ) w badaniach poekspozycyjnych wraz z oceną samego narzędzia przez osoby badane.Materiał i metodyBadania przeprowadzono na symulatorze szkoleniowym pojazdów ciężarowych i autobusów AutoSim AS 1600. Przebadano 130 kierowców uczestniczących w kursach kwalifikacji wstępnej i okresowej dla kierowców w transporcie drogowym. Do badań wykorzystano kwestionariusz SSQ autorstwa Kennedy’ego i wsp. w polskim tłumaczeniu Biernackiego i wsp. (symptomy: mdłości, dezorientacji, zaburzeń okulomotorycznych i wynik ogólny) oraz ankietę oceniającą kwestionariusz SSQ (zrozumiałość i czasochłonność na skali 1–6).WynikiW grupie badanej (N = 130) stwierdzono istotne statystycznie różnice w wynikach SSQ. Wśród kierowców młodszych (<29,5 roku) zarejestrowano zwiększone nasilenie symptomów choroby symulatorowej po symulacji (objawy mdłości oraz wynik ogólny), u kierowców starszych (>29,5 roku) − objawów dezorientacji po symulacji. Długość snu i ocena jakości wykonania zadania były istotnie wyższe w grupach bezobjawowych.
BackgroundA phenomenon of simulator sickness is measurable in terms of physiological symptoms. The article presents the practical use of the Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) in post-exposure research, together with feedback given by the examined drivers.Material and MethodsThe study was conducted on the AutoSim AS 1600 simulator, and involved 130 drivers attending preliminary and periodic qualification courses in road transportation. The following tools were used throughout the research: the SSQ by Kennedy et al., translated into Polish by Biernacki et al. (with symptoms including nausea, oculomotor disturbances & disorientation symptoms, and the SSQ total), and a tool evaluating the SSQ (comprehensibility and time consumption on a 1–6 scale).ResultsIn the study group (N = 130), some statistically significant differences in the SSQ results were observed. Among younger drivers (<29.5 years old) an increased intensity of the simulator sickness symptoms after simulation was recorded (nausea and the SSQ total), and among older drivers (>29.5 years old) – the disorientation symptoms after simulation. The length of sleep and the quality assessment of the conducted task were higher in the asymptomatic groups. Also, the results indicate a positive reception of the tool by the examined individuals (N = 113), with time consumption marked as low (M = 2.44 on a 1–6 scale) and comprehensibility as high (M = 5.62 on a 1–6 scale).ConclusionsThe research indicates the occurrence of simulator sickness symptoms even in simulators, which accurately reflect vehicle movements. The feedback given by the examined individuals, together with the level of involvement in the SSQ use, indicates a positive reception of the tool.

Value management is a process whereby the project is evaluated and scrutinised to obtain maximum value for money by following a prescribed methodology. It focuses on the value, rather than cost, in relation to the function of the element of the project. However, value relates to what an element does. The key benefit of VM is the financial benefits to the client; other benefits include a clearer brief, improved communication, use of local materials etc. However, there are barriers to its application such as inadequate training and education, the unwillingness to entertain new ideas, lack of regulatory framework etc. Also, the following drivers of VM approach were identified: establishment of a regulatory framework, client’s awareness, establishment of a group support system on VM etc. This paper considers value management from a functional value perspective and argues for greater recognition for it to form an integral part of projects.

Mobile shopping (m-shopping) has become extremely signifi cant for both marketing and retail selling. Despite the fact that m-shopping has evolved into a popular alternative approach for purchasing products and services worldwide, the research regarding the extent of its adoption is still on a mediocre level and in certain countries, such as Greece, is rather limited. It is highly important to analyze and fully comprehend several factors that infl uence the acceptance of mobile technologies by consumers in order to motivate and support sellers’ mobile strategy. The objective of this research is to approach the factors that affect m-shopping with the analysis of two categories of mobile users, those who have already been involved in m-shopping and those who have not. Specifi cally, this work aims to explore and explain, in an introductory way, the critical factors that tend to infl uence m-shopping acceptance in order to predict both the consumers’ attitude towards m-shopping and their purchasing behavior via mobile devices, based on literature review and empirical survey.

Objectives: Studies involving simulators are increasingly popular. We examined to what extent exposure to a variety of test conditions on the simulator affects the level of mood and severity of simulator sickness. In addition, we were interested in finding out to what degree the changes in mood are associated with the severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness. Material and Methods: Twelve men (aged M: 29.8, SD: 4.26) participated in the study, performing two 30-minute tasks in a driving simulator truck (fixed-base and mobile platform). For measuring mood, the UMACL questionnaire was used, and to assess the severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness, the SSQ questionnaire was used. Mood and the severity of simulator sickness symptoms were measured 3 times during the study (pretest, 2 min and 0.5 h after the test). Results: Symptoms of nausea and disorientation occurred after the tests on both simulators. In the case of the mobile platform, exacerbation of the symptoms associated with oculomotor disturbances was observed. These symptoms were particularly severe 2 min after completion of the test on the simulator, and they persisted for at least 0.5 h after the end of the test. The correlations between simulator sickness and mood explained from 35% to 65% of the variance of these variables. In particular, a strong association was observed between the oculomotor disturbances and a decrease in energetic arousal. This refers both to the effect level and the duration of these symptoms. Conclusions: Simulator sickness is a major problem in the use of simulators in both the research and the training of operators. In the conditions involving the mobile platform, not only was a higher severity of the symptoms of simulator sickness observed, but also a decrease in energetic arousal. Therefore, the implementation of the mobile platform can provide an additional source of conflict at the level of incoming stimuli and changes in mood may increase this effect. Thus, it seems important to consider the tasks performed on the simulator in the context of utility and the purpose for which we use them.
