Opis:
Dynamically developing drilling industry is connected with some environmental impact. Considerable amounts of contaminated drilling waste is produced, regardless the applied prevention measures. The generated drilling waste is diversified both chemically and physico-mechanical. These properties ma ke utilization or managing of drilling waste difficult. In article presented results laboratory research stabilization of drilling waste mud from Polish commercial drilling waste dump. Samples were taken from an old lot which is not currently under operation and was provided to be subjected to reclamation. Investigated waste drilling mud stored in waste dump contains h igh amounts of unbound ions, which can be leached out of the sample. It cause the method of utilization to fulfill two goals: first it should allow to solidify the material in order to obtain material easy to transport and process and second the method should allow to decrease the amount of ions which can be leached out of the final material.

Opis:
This investigations were carried out on different spent water-based muds, collected in drillings in various parts of Po land. The combined study methods included structural and phase investigations (X-ray diffractometry, infrared FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy) and instrumental chemical determinations. The results characterize mineral and phase composition of the samples, their microstructure and chemical composition. The authors focused on the specific nature of polymer-clay complexes, which in drilling mud systems have the form of delaminated or ex foliated organic-clay polymer nanocomposites that control prope rties of such waste materials. Detailed recognition of properties chemistry, mineral and phase composition, microstucture of spent drilling muds have a fundamental meaning for studies on the management of these materials in the natural environmental.

Opis:
One of the main problems related to environmental protection in the search for hydrocarbon deposits are drilling waste. In these article the authors presented their research results on the toxicity of drilling muds and suggested the possibility of their utilization. Research material represents drilling waste collected during prospecting for both conventional and unconventional deposits of oil and gas in the Polish Lowlands, Pomerania, the Carpathians and the Carpathian Foredeep.

Opis:
Being aware of the problems affecting our environment, novel technological solutions have been dealt with to improve its quality. Mining is a sector generating substantial volume of waste and it also refers to drilling operations. On the basis of laboratory investigations and the analyses of legal regulations, three categories of drilling waste have been distinguished depending on the environmental impact of the waste and on the potential technologies of their treating and successful utilizing. The essentials of the solutions proposed have been presented and for each of the categories a processing flow chart has been prepared. At the ends of the processing lines, the flow charts specify the possibilities of utilization of the final products.

Opis:
The exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits is associated with the generation of drilling waste, which is classified as extractive waste. Extractive waste management is subject to the requirements contained in legal regulations at both EU and national level. In accordance with the provisions of applicable legal acts, it is recommended to prevent the production of extractive waste, to limit its generated amount and the impact on the environment. The next step in the management of extractive waste is its recovery, and the last is disposal in appropriate landfills. This article discusses applicable legal, national and EU regulations regarding the possibilities of waste management arising from the activity of oil and gas mining. The number of applicable legal acts in the area is relatively large, and the most important regulations include the Extractive Waste Act of July 10, 2008 (Ustawa z dnia 10 lipca 2008 r.), Waste Act of December 14, 2012 (Ustawa z dnia 14 grudnia 2012 r.) and the Act of June 9, 2011 – Geological and Mining Law (Ustawa z dnia 9 czerwca 2011 r.). The review has clearly shown that efforts should be made to reduce the amount of the extractive waste generated and to reuse it. In the light of applicable legal regulations, several of the waste disposal methods recommended in the Annex to the Act (Ustawa z dnia 14 grudnia 2012 r.) can be applied to drilling waste, i.e. D1 processes (storage in the ground or on the soil surface), D2 (processing in the soil and on the ground), D3 (deep injection), D5 (storage in landfills in a deliberately designed way), D7 (discharge to seas and oceans) and D9 (physico-chemical treatment). Storage of such waste in landfills is the last resort. Extractive waste, including drilling waste, may be stored in an underground waste disposal facility or in an extractive waste disposal facility in accordance with applicable legal regulations. However, despite the relatively large number of legal acts regarding the possible management of extractive waste at the national level, there are still no regulations exhausting the entire subject of managing this type of waste. In addition, Polish law is often inconsistent in this respect.
