IBV strains variability
Opis:
Poultry industry is dynamically developing worldwide, and the threat from infectious viral diseases also increases. One of them is an acute, highly contagious avian infectious bronchitis (IB), caused by infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), the coronavirus of the fowl. IBV is characterized by extensive variations in the surface spike protein gene. Those genetic variations lead to rapid changes in IBV serotypes that need to be constantly monitored to assess the epidemiological situation in the field. The aim of this article was to present current knowledge and recent epidemiology, based on IBV field strains circulation. Several serotypes can be simultaneously present in a region and as they cross-protect poorly, broiler chickens can be infected more than once within their short period of life. Careful, constant monitoring is necessary to respond fast in case of new genetic IBV variants development. Some of these strains have global range, while the prevalence of others is limited to some geographical areas. Thus, the understanding the IB epidemiology, virus spread and the occurrence of individual strains allows to use the optimal vaccination schedule to limit the disease and improve the poultry production. Finally, a good recognition of the IB problem in Central and Eastern Europe on the example of Poland as the largest European poultry producer, can be a key factor in the quickest response to emerging new IBV variants. Some practical solutions may help to introduce the similar and effective procedures also in other regions of the world with high intensity of poultry production.

Opis:
Newcastle disease (ND), caused by avian paramyxovirus type 1 (APMV‑1), is among the most important diseases in poultry and other bird species, Affected birds can present clinical signs, which range from a mild, almost unnoticed respiratory distress to severe or even highly fatal disease forms. There is no treatment for Newcastle disease – it’s occurrence in commercial poultry is reportable to the World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE), and it impacts international trade in poultry business. Prevention relies on biosecurity procedures and vaccinations. Many countries introduced eradication policies with compulsory slaughter of infected flocks. Due to all these facts, Newcastle disease remains the serious threat to commercial poultry production throughout the world. Currently, there are classification systems of Newcastle disease viruses (NDV), which are mainly related to the clinical signs of the disease. The progress in the development of new vaccines against ND in recent years, may present some difficulties in selecting the best vaccination program. The main aim of this article is to present the current classification and to review the different approaches to ND vaccination methods, with description of all, available worldwide, vaccine types. This knowledge can help the poultry vet to make the best choice for vaccination schedule, accordingly to the local conditions and administrative requirements.

Opis:
Poultry industry is dynamically developing worldwide and as a result, the threat from infectious viral diseases also increases. Among them avian pneumovirus (APV) infections known as swollen head syndrome (SHS) and turkey rhinotracheitis (TRT) are of growing importance. Recently, quite rapid increase of field outbreaks allows to perceive the disease in chickens as the raising problem of epidemiology in many regions. Therefore, the basic aim of this article is to present the current scientific knowledge and recent epizootic status, based on the APV field strains detection, identification, and circulation within chicken flocks, which can help us to find the best solution and quick response in face of disease outbreak. Some of these virus strains have global range, while the prevalence of others can be limited to local geographical areas. Thus, the understanding the APV epidemiology, virus spreads and other co-infections allows to design optimal vaccination schedules to limit the disease prevalence and improve the poultry production standards. Finally, a good recognition of the APV problem at the chicken farm and efficient differential diagnosis of respiratory diseases can be a key factor for the best solutions and the quickest responses to emerging disease. Some practical solutions may help to introduce the similar and effective procedures in other regions of the world with high intensity of poultry production.
