    The effect of rejecting the correspondence concept of truth, adopted in classical metaphysics, is the crisis of modern culture, which is ultimately the crisis of man himself. An important element of it is the belief in the gap between faith and reason. John Paul II claims that stopping this crisis can only happen through the spiritual revival of man, whose condition and foundation is the rediscovery of the universal truth about himself and his ultimate destiny. The Pope is convinced that in the context of contemporary liberal and technical-consumer cultural trends, only thanks to objective truth can a man preserve his identity and the unity of his culture.

    David Graeber wrote about debt, jobs and the negative effects of globalization. He was an American anthropologist, anarchist activist, and was an author known for his books Debt: The First 5000 Years, The Utopia of Rules and Bullshit Jobs: A Theory. A professor of anthropology at the London School of Economics, he passed away 2 September 2020, at age 59.

    The subject of the work is an attempt to analyse the notion of dignity in legal sciences, especially in legal theory and philosophy of law. The author distinguishes autonomous and heteronomous version of the notion in question. The first way of conceiving human dignity, assumes that dignity, i.e. the worth of human life, is fully independent of social conditions in which people live their lives. This way of conceiving dignity epitomises Kant’s philosophy of moral autonomy as immanent trait of every human being. The second way of conceiving human dignity assumes that the worth of human life is fully dependent of social conditions in which people live their lives. Consequently, it is taken for granted that there are social conditions in which people can lose dignity as contingent trait of human being. In this case, in order to get back lost dignity, people ought to change social conditions by way of social revolution. This way of conceiving dignity epitomises Marxist philosophy of alienation. The author tends to point out, that a different way of conceiving dignity is followed by serious legal consequences.

    Przedmiotem pracy jest analiza pojęcia godności w naukach prawnych, w szczególności w teorii i filozofii prawa. Autor rozróżnia autonomiczną i heteronomiczną wersję pojęcia godności. Pierwszy sposób pojmowania godności zakłada, że godność, tzn. wartość ludzkiego życia, jest całkowicie niezależna od warunków społecznych, w których ludzie wiodą swoje życie. Taki sposób pojmowania godności występuje w Kantowskiej filozofii moralnej autonomii jako immanentnej cechy każdej osoby ludzkiej. Drugi sposób pojmowania godności zakłada, że wartość ludzkiego życia jest zależna od warunków społecznych, w których ludzie wiodą swoje życie. W konsekwencji przyjmuje się, że istnieją warunki społeczne w których ludzie tracą swoją godność jako przypadkową cechę istoty ludzkiej. W takim przypadku, w celu odzyskania utraconej godności ludzie powinni zmienić warunki społeczne w drodze rewolucji społecznej. Taki sposób pojmowania godności występuje w Marksowskiej filozofii alienacji. Autor zmierza do wykazania, że różny sposób pojmowania godności pociąga za sobą doniosłe konsekwencje prawne.
