    Opis:
    Prużana (now the Republic of Belarus) dates back to the early sixteenth century. For over four centuries the parish was part of several dioceses. First it was in the Diocese of Lutsk. In 1798, as a result of the Tsarist Russian legislation it was moved to the Diocese of Vilnius. When in 1925 the Diocese of Pinsk came into existence under the edict of Pope Pius XI Vixdum Poloniae unitas , the parish Kiwatycze became part of it. The inventory of the church in Kiwatycze, made due to the fact that the parish was taken over by Rev. Tomasz Lenczewski, after the death of Rev. Mikołaj Bogdanowicz, illustrates the history of the parish church, its interior décor, sacred vessels and vestments, registry books, the state of the parish library, parish presbytery and farm buildings, a landed estate and the population residing in the parish. The facts included in the inventory were consistent with the actual state of the parish, which was confirmed by the signature and stamp of Rev. Witalis Gąsiewski – the Dean of Prużana.

    Die katholische Kirche als Ganzes war immer ein westlicher christlicher Kultur-träger, auch in Wolhynien. Für diese höchsten Werte bezahlte sie mit totaler Liquidierung der Geistlichkeit, der Gläubigen, der Kirchen und der Friedhöfe. Mit außer-gewöhnlichem Vorbedacht wurde alles zerstört, was den Katholiken heilig war. Aber in unseren Tagen, im Verlauf der letzten Jahre, beobachten wir mit Freude und Hoffnung, wie diese Kirche zu neuem Leben erwacht. Sie ist gewissermaßen vom Tode auferstanden. Der Verfasser der Arbeit Die katholischen Kirchen in Wolhynien hat festgestellt, daß die Verluste der römisch-katholischen Kirche in den Jahren 1939-1996 138 Kirchen (86,2%) und 159 Kapellen (96,4%) betrugen. Ein Teil der Sakralobjekte wurde umgebaut oder verwüstet bzw. wird gegenwärtig von der orthodoxen Kirche und anderen, nichtreligiösen Einrichtungen genutzt. Gegenüber den 370 000 Gläubigen der Diözese Luck im Jahre 1939 bilden die römisch-katholischen Christen heute nicht einmal 10% dieser Zahl.

    Artykuł stanowi głos w sporze historiograficznym na temat przynależności metropolitalnej diecezji łuckiej w okresie nowożytnym. Odwołując się do świadectw źródłowych z późnego średniowiecza oraz okresu nowożytnego, wskazuje na korzenie złożonej sytuacji formalno-prawnej diecezji łuckiej. Za rozstrzygające uznaje różne źródła uprawnień arcybiskupów gnieźnieńskich względem diecezji łuckiej. Od XV wieku, kiedy ukształtował się urząd prymasa, arcybiskupi gnieźnieńscy uzyskali jurysdykcję także nad metropolią lwowską. Od tego momentu dość trudno określić, jakie uprawnienia względem sufraganii lwowskich wykonywał arcybiskup gnieźnieński z racji pełnienia urzędu prymasa, a które mogły wynikać ze zwierzchności metropolitalnej. To zespolenie kompetencji obrazuje dobrze uznanie synodów prowincjonalnych gnieźnieńskich za synody prymasowskie i krajowe, których dekrety obowiązywały w obu metropoliach: gnieźnieńskiej i lwowskiej. Także procedury sądowe od początku XVI wieku dawały prymasowi prawo wysłuchiwania spraw sufraganów diecezji w pierwszej instancji. Autor w konkluzji stwierdza, że wobec braku dokumentu papieskiego, który przenosi diecezję łucką do metropolii gnieźnieńskiej, przez cały okres nowożytny pozostawała ona sufraganią lwowską.
    The article is a voice in a discussion among historians on the issue of the administrative affiliation of the Diocese of Łuck in the Modern Era. Drawing on the primary sources from the late Middle Ages and the modern period, we can find the roots of the complex formal-legal situation of the Lutsk diocese. Equally crucial are the various sources on the authority of the archbishops of Gniezno over the diocese of Lutsk. Since the 15th c. when the office of a Primate was established, the archbishops of Gniezno had also ruled over the Lviv ecclesiastical province (Pol. Metropolia) and since then it had been difficult to clearly state what powers the archbishop of Gniezno held over Lviv suffragan dioceses, particularly, which rights stemmed from the role of a Primate and which from the affiliation to the ecclesiastical province. Combining the two legal roles is best illustrated by the fact that the Gniezno Provincial Synods were tantamount with Primate and Country Synods, the decrees of which were implemented in both Gniezno and Lviv ecclesiastical provinces. Also, the court procedures since the beginning of the 16th c., granted the Primate a right to rule over the suffragan dioceses in the first instance. The author stands on a position that due to lack of Papal document granting the jurisdiction over Łuck diocese to Gniezno ecclesiastical province, it remained a Lviv’s suffragan diocese throughout the entire Modern Era.

    The article presents the state of research and research postulates concerning the repression of religious orders and congregations of the Latin Rite of the Metropolis of Lviv in the years 1939-1950. It was written on the basis of a catalogue of repression which highlights personal and institutional repressions, not excluding the fact that in some cases they could appear together. In his research postulates the author notes that it is impossible to describe the history of the Church in isolation from the history of the Poles living in Borderlands. The research taking advantage, to a greater extent, of church archives - both diocesan as well as belonging to particular male and female religious orders-would be especially helpful for that purpose. Having access to archives produced by the Soviet secret service is crucial to the development of research on the history of Borderlands, the functioning of the Roman Catholic Church and repression committed against it.
