Opis:
The analysed permanent magnet disc motor (PMDM) is used for direct wheel drive in an electric vehicle. Therefore there are several objectives that could be tackled in the design procedure, such as an increased efficiency, reduced iron weight, reduced copper weight or reduced weight of the permanent magnets (reduced rotor weight). In this paper the optimal design of PMDM using a multi-objective genetic algorithm optimisation procedure is performed. A comparative analysis of the optimal motor solution and its parameters in relation to the prototype is presented.

Opis:
The project aims mainly to propose new and to develop existing methods, tools and software capable of supporting intelligent modelling and decision support systems, in controlling and optimising the safety and reliability of complex real industrial systems and processes, with their primarily applications in the maritime transportation sectors. Its main focus is on the use of new safety and reliability analysis techniques to improve and optimise safety and reliability of complex real industrial systems related to their operation processes. It will look into the design of industrial systems and development of new methods and the employment of new theoretical results that are applicable to designing and safety and reliability evaluations as well as the improvements of real complex industrial systems and processes.

Opis:
In 2011, Germany conducted the first census after the reunification. In contrast to a classical census, a register-assisted census was implemented using population register data and an additional sample. This paper provides an overview of how the sampling design recommendations were set up in order to fulfil legal requirements and to guarantee an optimal but still flexible source of information. The aim was to develop a design that fosters an accurate estimation of the main objective of the census, the total population counts. Further, the design should also adequately support the application of small area estimation methods. Some empirical results are given to provide an assessment of selected methods. The research was conducted within the German Census Sampling and Estimation research project, financially supported by the German Federal Statistical Office.

Opis:
The paper proposes a design procedure for the creation of a robust and effective hybrid algorithm, tailored to and capable of carrying out a given design optimisation task. In the course of algorithm creation, a small set of simple optimisation methods is chosen, out of which those performing best will constitute the hybrid algorithm. The simplicity of the method allows implementing ad-hoc modifications if unexpected adverse features of the optimisation problem are found. It is postulated to model a system that is smaller but conceptually equivalent, whose model is much simpler than the original one and can be used freely during algorithm construction. Successful operation of the proposed approach is presented in two case studies (power plant set-point optimisation and waveguide bend shape optimisation). The proposed methodology is intended to be used by those not having much knowledge of the system or modelling technology, but having the basic practice in optimisation. It is designed as a compromise between brute force optimisation and design optimisation preceded by a refined study of the underlying problem. Special attention is paid to cases where simulation failures (regardless of their nature) form big obstacles in the course of the optimisation process.

Opis:
Results of an extensive experimental study conducted in eighties at the former Leningrad Polytechnic Institute are revised and analysed in context of some further research. The optimum length of straight outlet tubes with diffuser of circular cross-section and the outlet/inlet crosssectional area ratio are established. The optimum geometrical features of cranked type outlet tubes and the outlet tubes with diffuser cross-section transition from circular to square and rectangular ones are determined. Finally, the influence of the outlet conjunction channel slope on the pumping station efficiency is studied in detail.
