    The article is an interpretation of the traditional figure of the hermeneutic circle made from the perspective of John D. Caputo’s radical hermeneutics. It begins with a recapitulation of the most important modern positions on the hermeneutic circle, which postmodern hermeneutics radicalizes, noting the impossibility of its closure or fulfillment. Movement in the postmodern hermeneutic circle takes place not between the parts and the whole, but only between the different parts. Thus, one might say that this circle is twisted, and this has a dual meaning. It evokes Jacques Derrida’s interpretation of a phrase from Hamlet, “time is out of joint”, but it also plays with the meaning of the twist, which can be understood as a Verwindung: the impossibility of the transgression beyond modern hermeneutics.

    Artykuł omawia podejście do tekstu i procesu interpretacji, z jakim mamy do czynienia na gruncie hermeneutyki ponowoczesnej (radykalnej). Rozpoczyna go omówienie pojęcia tekstu wypracowanego przez Hansa-Georga Gadamera, które następnie zderzone zostaje z krytyką, jaką poddał hermeneutyce Jacques Derrida. Po rekapitulacji obu stanowisk zauważone zostaje jednak pewne niespodziewane podobieństwo pomiędzy Gadamerowskimi a Derridiańskimi przeświadczeniami na temat „ontologii” dzieła literackiego i „natury” procesu interpretacji. Hermeneutyka ponowoczesna z jednej strony podobieństwo to dostrzega, z drugiej zaś – stara się potraktować „lekcję dekonstrukcji” serio, zwracając baczniejszą uwagę na tekstualność tekstu, jego śladowość, nieskończoną grę znaczeń, która uniemożliwia zakończenie, scałościowanie, spełnienie jakichkolwiek zabiegów hermeneutycznych. Trzymanie się blisko tekstu na gruncie hermeneutyki ponowoczesnej polega więc na swoistym „śledzeniu śladów” – podążaniu za znaczeniorodną grą tekstu i dopisywaniu do niej twórczej kontrsygnatury czytelniczej. W zakończeniu artykułu zaproponowana zostaje metafora „dotkliwości” jako pojęcia trafnie oddającego radykalnohermeneutyczną relację z tekstem.
    The article discusses the approach to the text and the process of interpretation which we encounter in postmodern (radical) hermeneutics. It begins with a discussion ofthe concept of the text developed by Hans-Georg Gadamer, which is then confronted with the critique applied to hermeneutics by Jacques Derrida. After the recapitulation of both positions, an unexpected similarity is observed between the Gadamerian and Derridean teachings on the theme of the “ontology” of the literary work and the “nature” of the process of interpretation. Postmodern hermeneutics, on the one hand, perceives this similarity, while, on the other, it attempts to treat the “lesson of deconstruction” seriously, turning more watchful attention to the text’s textuality, its trace aspect, the infinite play of meanings that renders impossible the conclusion, completion, unification or fulfilment of any hermeneutic procedures. Keeping close to the text based on postmodern hermeneutics thus involves a kind of “tracing the traces” – a pursuit of the meaning-generating play of the text and additional inscription in it of the reader’s creative counter-signature. At the end of the article, the metaphor of “painfulness” or arduousness is proposed as a concept that aptly conveys the relations of radical hermeneutics with the text.

    Tekst jest odpowiedzią na polemiczny szkic Grzegorza Pertka Prepozycje. Metafizyka „bliskości”. Stara się on odeprzeć zarzut metafizycznego obciążenia postulatu „bliskości”, wskazując na osłabiającą i „dynamizującą” ów postulat kategorię „dotkliwości”. Autor artykułu wyjaśnia również, że nie zależało mu na odwróceniu relacji między hermeneutyką a dekonstrukcją, ale na jej przemieszczeniu, wynikającym z dostrzeżenia zasadniczego pokrewieństwa obu dyskursów.
    This text is a response to Grzegorz Pertek’s polemical essay Prepositions: The Metaphysics of “Closeness.” In this text, I offer a rebuttal to allegations against the metaphysical gravity of the postulate “closeness” by pointing out the category of “acuteness,” which “softens” this postulate and makes it “dynamic.” I also clarify that I am not concerned with inverting the relationship between hermeneutics and deconstruction, but in displacing them by asserting the fundamental kinship between the two discourses.

    The starting point for consideration is to put the Emmanuel Levinas’s philosophy into question whether the status of “absolute Otherness” may also belong to the Other other than man. On the basis of the thought of Levinas it receives a negative responseand it is because of his involvement in the so-called anthropological machine (which he shares with Martin Heidegger and some other critics of metaphysics). But it is, however, possible to open the (broadly defined) phenomenological ethical thought drew on the achievements of Levinas to the question of the animal. This attempt might be centered around the proposals of Jacques Derrida, the author of the essay The Animal That Therefore I Am (More To Follow), where he spoke about the singularity of each animal, the problematic status of border between man and animal,and the being-with animals as a full-fledged modality of being. This is a provocative thought which asks us about our attitude to such issues as “responsibility” and “responsiveness”, “carno-phallogocentrism”, or the status of non-human animals. Derrida’s thought is here very close to some kind of phenomenological language, but it is rather the phenomenology of the otherness than the phenomenology of intentional subject. The same phenomenology that we find in Bernhard Waldenfels’s or John D. Caputo’s writing.
