Opis:
The notion of a seasonal pattern of cruise ships has been used frequently, but very few authors have analysed all the features of this pattern. This article adds some new insights on this topic by analysing cruise ship activity in the three largest ports on the east coast of Adriatic Sea in 2017 and 2018. The article presents an analysis of cruise ship arrivals at the ports and compares the analysis to the established pattern in the Mediterranean, revealing the nature of the seasonal pattern for the ports analysed. In addition, two further analyses were carried out, firstly the analysis of ship size, which determines new characteristics of the seasonal pattern. The second additional analysis considered the duration of ship visit during different times of the year and determined another pattern characteristic.

Opis:
For a decade, giant cruise ships have been introduced to the market. Nowadays, the largest cruise ships have the length of over 360 meters, draught up to 10 meters and capacity of 225 000 GT. This type of vessels can only be handled in seaports with appropriate depth of waterways and proper length of berths, large manoeuvring basin and facilities on seacoasts ready to serve thousands of passengers at the same time. The aim of this article is to identify cruise shipowners’ requirements regarding seaport infrastructure and analysis of challenges facing port authorities in terms of adapting ports to new trends in the cruise shipping market. In the article, a few research methods were applied: exploration method of data, desk research method and comparative analysis.

Opis:
Climate change provides for improved conditions for maritime navigation and results in increased activity in the Arctic. Those increased activities influence the safety at sea and risk of accidents. A disaster as the Costa Concordia incident would have far more serious consequences in Greenlandic waters than it had in Italy, therefore the question of prevention and disaster-preparedness is crucial. One approach to avoid risks is to create specific legislation. The legal system guiding safe navigation of cruise ships in/around Greenlandic waters is complex: the legal regime for navigation is set in different general and specific international, regional and national legal acts, partly non-binding, therefore issues of effectiveness arise. Safety is also influenced by practical issues, e.g. the lack of sufficient nautical charts for Greenlandic waters and “preparedness” at land to handle potential disasters, such as the SAR-system and preparedness of different actors, for example hospitals.

Opis:
How long the cruise ship is staying in port? Does that value change during the year? Is the period linked to the number of passengers and the size of the ship? What influences overall period of the stay in port? These questions are just a sample of questions appeared before the research team which tried to establish rules of the Cruise ships seasonal pattern on the East Coast of the Adriatic Sea several questions appeared. Answers to cited questions are presented in this article, obtained by analysing the behaviour of cruise vessels in three biggest ports on the East Coast of the Adriatic Sea during the period of two years.
