The article suggests using the category of the contact zone adopted from postcolonial studies in research on borderland, which - in turn - allows researchers to describe the phenomenon of the frontier. According to Pratt, contact zone may be understood as the space of cooperation and competition, coexistence and antagonism, contact and conflict of groups. The aim of the article is to analyse the representations of borderland in Polish-Jewish prose of the 1930s (including the novels published in the mass-circulation press). We shall focus on the motives that stand behind the conflictive communication. It is worth noting that in the literary renditions, interactions between Poles and Jews easily transform into conflicts. Conflictive communication appears in various places (e.g. school, street, neighbourhood), forms (nicknames, arguments, pogrom cries) and functions (from initiating and escalating tensions to riots and murders). As a result, the contact zone transforms into a conflict zone.

This article suggests using the category of contact zone taken from the postcolonial studies in the research on borderland, which allows to describe frontier phenomena and processes in their complexity, multi-dimensionality and ambiguity. Following M. L. Pratt contact zone is understood as the space of cooperation and competition, coexistence and antagonism, contact and conflict of groups. The subject of analysis are the representations of borderland in Polish-Jewish in the prose of 1930s (including the serialized novels published in mass-circulation press). In the centre of interest there is the motive of conflict communication. In the literary renditions interactions between Poles and Jews easily transform into conflict communication and focus on indicating group differences and borders, defining collective identities and their positioning. Conflictive communication appears in various places (school, street, neighbourhood), in various forms (nick-names, arguments, pogrom cries) and functions (from initiating and escalating tensions to inspiring riots and murders), adding to the transformation of a contact zone into a conflict zone.

Istotną rolę w procesie tworzenia specyficznej struktury warstwy wierzchniej w obróbce nagniataniem elektromechanicznym odgrywa rezystancja strefy kontaktu. W pracy zaprezentowano model strefy kontaktu oraz schemat poglądowy, umożliwiający opis zjawisk zachodzących w tej strefie, podano również widok strefy rzeczywistego kontaktu narzędzia z przedmiotem. Przedstawiono poglądowy przebieg zmian rezystancji strefy kontaktu, naciski i temperaturę w zależności od pola strefy kontaktu. Podano krzywe teoretyczne zmian rezystancji pola kontaktu, które mają istotny wpływ na właściwości użytkowe warstwy wierzchniej nagniatanej elektromechanicznie.
The study describes and attempts to explain the thermomechanical phenomena occurring in the upper layer of steel subjected to electromechanical burnishing. In the process considered, mechanical and thermal actions resulting from plastic deformations occurring during the pressure of the burnishing elements as it moves over the heated surface are utilized at the same time. As a result of simultaneous pressure and heating of internal upper-layer zones, surface irregularities deform and the upper layer obtains specific service properties. An important role in the process of formation of a specific upper layer structure during surface treatment by electromechanical burnishing is played by the resistance of the contact zone. A model of the contact zone and a visual schema allowing the description of phenomena occurring in this zone are presented in the paper. The view of the zone of actual contact between the tool with the workpiece is also shown. The variation of contact zone resistance, pressures and temperature, as dependent on the contact zone area are outlined. Theoretical curves representing variations in contact area resistance, which substantially affect the service properties of the upper layer as burnished electromechanically are provided.

During the exploitation of the Bełchatów lignite deposit at the point of contact between the Mesozoic substrate and Neogene deposits, the rocks of different petrographic composition were found. The group of rocks with transitional features between carbonate and silica rocks were called opoka-rock. This article presents the current state of knowledge on the geological conditions pertaining to the occurrence of the Bełchatów opoka-rock, and on its petrographic and chemical characteristics. An analysis was also carried out to determine the physical, mechanical as well as raw-material properties, as well as the related issue of potential utilisation.

Opis:
Significant differences in the physical and mechanical properties exist between the rock masses on two sides of an ore-rock contact zone, which the production tunnels of an underground mine must pass through. Compared with a single rock mass, the mechanical behavior of the contact zone composite rock comprising two types of rock is more complex. In order to predict the overall strength of the composite rock with different contact angles, iron ore-marble composite rock sample uniaxial compression tests were conducted. The results showed that composite rock samples with different contact angles failed in two different modes under compression. The strengths of the composite rock samples were lower than those of both the pure iron ore samples and pure marble samples, and were also related to the contact angle. According to the stress-strain relationship of the contact surface in the composite rock sample, there were constraint stresses on the contact surface between the two types of rock medium in the composite rock samples. This stress state could reveal the effect of the constraint stress in the composite rock samples with different contact angles on their strengths. Based on the Mohr-Coulomb criterion, a strength model of the composite rock considering the constraint stress on the contact surface was constructed, which could provide a theoretical basis for stability researches and designs of contact zone tunnels.

The Bulgarian-Romanian language boundary: anthroponymical dataThe topic is Balkan anthroponymy. The area is the Lower Danube – the Bulgarian-Romanian language boundary. In this contact zone there is a distribution of family names, formed from urbonyms. They signal a specific regional belonging, and they show the link with the common area: the Danube river. We are referring to family names of the type: Vidinliev, Kalafatov, Beketov, Svishtovliev, Ruschukliev, Kalarashev, Tutrakanov, (meaning ‘from Vidin’, ‘from Calafat’, ‘from Bechet’, ‘from Svishtov’, ‘from Ruse’, ‘from Calarashi’, ‘from Tutrakan’). This phenomenon is widespread on both banks of the river. Bułgarsko-rumuńska granica językowa. Dane antroponimiczneArtykuł dotyczy bałkańskiej antroponimii w regionie dolnego Dunaju, stanowiącego bułgarsko-rumuńską granicę i jednocześnie strefę kontaktu. W tym regionie częste są nazwiska derywowane od nazw miejscowości. Sygnalizują one pochodzenie, wskazując jednocześnie na rodowód miejscowy, tj. z regionu naddunajskiego. Są to nazwiska takie jak: Vidinliev, Kalafatov, Beketov, Svištovliev, Rusčukliev, Kalarašev, Tutrakanov (oznaczające: 'z Vidinu, z Kalafatu, z Svištova, z Ruse, z Kalaraši, z Tutrakanu'). In the freezing seas, offshore fixed platforms are at high loads at the ice contact zone, presented a variation of the design of jacket active protection from ice loads, and compared with the existing design of the platform, studied stress strain behavior of models in the software complex Lira. This comparison is the first to determine the optimum contact interaction, in which the design ice load will be minimal and will not lead to its destruction, and the opposition of the load will be possible to destroy the ice.

The slewing bearings are applied in heavy working machines and operated in extreme conditions. A characteristic feature of these bearings are a high load which determining a large deflection of a contact zone rolling element - raceway. This phenomenon combined with the effects of a bearing clearance causes a significant increase in a contact angle of the bearing. This in turn causes displacement of the contact zone to an undesirable position. In the construction of slewing bearing is applied of a large value of the osculation ratio. This leads to occur of large sizes of the contact zone identified in a radial cross-section. The sizes are comparable to values of the radius of the ball. The contact zone is type of quasi-linear. Effects of changes the position of the contact zone in the double-row ball slewing bearing has been presented in the paper. The raceway profile for such bearing consists of the arc section changing in the radial section. When the contact zone includes a change point of curvature of the raceway profile it comes to a concentration of a contact stress, and this is unfavourable for operation of the bearing. In order to eliminate this phenomenon to the profile introduced a transition curve. For this purpose was selected a clothoid. The curve ensures a gradual change of curvature from the arc section of the profile to the zero curvature of the straight profile section. The raceway profile becomes the smooth curve of the second rank. In the article are presented a numerical model of the contact zone for the double-row ball slewing bearing and the distributions of a pressure in the contact zone for the ordinary and modified raceway profiles. The calculation results have been presented as graphs of the distributions of the pressure along the contact zone. It has been shown that the introduction modification of the raceway profile eliminates the concentration of the pressure along the contact zone profile. The results obtained can be used during design of the raceway profiles of the double-row ball slewing bearing.

Іх аналіз уяўляецца перспектыўным пры вызначэнні прычын, якія паўплывалі на сучасны арэальны падзел славянскіх моўных тэрыторый. У артыкуле аналізуюцца гістарычныя ўмовы, у якіх зараджаліся і развіваліся беларуска-польскія кантакты ў прасторы і часе, а таксама ўстанаўліваецца статус, роля і функцыі беларускай мовы ў гісторыі беларуска-польскіх узаемадачыненняў. Вялікае значэнне пры выяўленні характару беларуска-польскіх арэальных узаемасувязей мае выкарыстанне такіх метадаў, як арэальна-тыпалагічны, супастаўляльны, параўнальна-гістарычны, апісальна-аналітычны.
Formowanie się białorusko-polskiej wspólnoty językowej, do wyłonienia której doszło poprzez krzyżowanie się systemów obu języków, odbywało się w niesprzyjających warunkach socjolingwistycznych. W dziedzinie kontaktów międzyjęzykowych najbardziej potrzebne na obecnym etapie badań — jak się zdaje — jest zweryfikowanie dotychczasowych poglądów i w miarę obiektywne określenie przyczyn, jakie odegrały niebagatelny wpływ na współczesny kształt i zasięg terytorialny języków pokrewnych, jakimi są polszczyzna i białoruszczyzna. W niniejszym artykule wnikliwiej analizie (w aspekcie czasowo-przestrzennym) poddano warunki historyczne, w jakich zrodziły się i rozwijały białorusko-polskie kontakty językowe. Największy nacisk położono na próbę określenia statusu, roli i funkcji języka białoruskiego w historii wzajemnych kontaktów i wpływów obu języków. Przy opisie cech białorusko-polskich zależności na badanym obszarze wykorzystano — niezwykle istotnych dla tego typu badań lingwistycznych — kilka metod: arealno-typologiczną, konfrontatywną, porównawczo-historyczną oraz opisowo-analityczną
The formation of the communicative space of the Belarusian-Polish contact zone that was formed as a result of contacting of language systems took place in contradictory sociolinguistic conditions. The analysis of the conditions is perspective in case of identifying the factors that influenced on the modern areal division of Slavic language territories. The article analyzes the historical conditions in which the Belarusian-Polish language contacts originated and developed in space and time, and also defines the status, role and functions of the Belarusian language in the history of the Belarusian-Polish interrelations.

The printing literature provides different values of pressure between cylinders in the printing unit and between rollers in the ink unit of the offset printing machine. Very often there is no information on whether a given value of pressure is maximum or average. Another frequent problem referred to in the printing literature is that authors do not reveal the source of theorems, equations or other important information. This article includes a set of values collected for pressure, line pressure, press clamping and the contact zone width that have been presented by other authors in their specific articles and books. It also includes definitions of pressure, line pressure, press clamping, indentation of blanket and metric clamping. In addition, the article briefly presents findings of the experimental research related to the contact zone between cylinders and rollers was carried out in the printing unit and in the ink unit until present. This article also gives publication references which provide for different equations concerned with the clamping force of cylinders, their compression or indentation, the contact zone width and the impact the specific stress-strain has on blankets.

In the article some forms of damage to raceway of slewing bearings for single-row ball bearing slewing ring with four-point contact and their causes were shown. Changes of the contact angle and its influence on the geometry for contact zone of the rolling elements raceway were analyzed. An identification of changes for contact angle of individual balls for different parameters of the contact was received. It was showed that contact angles of some rolling elements were increasing. It can cause damage to the raceway by spalling or rolling out of edge of the bearing ring. Ways of avoiding too early damage to the raceway at the stage of the design and the selection of coronary bearings were suggested.

The aim of the article is to discuss the problem of hybrid identity, as it is presented in Jakob Ejersbo’s “Africa-trilogy” (2009). As the methodological framework for the analysis serve some of the main notions borrowed from postcolonial studies (as hybridity and contact zone), as well as Zygmunt Bauman’s diagnoses on “the liquid modernity” (among others his understanding of identity and his tourist and vagabond metaphors). The latter ones indicate the universal dimension of Ejersbo’s prose, which until now has been read mainly from the postcolonial critique’s position and as a polemical comment on the Scandinavian self-understanding as a region, which has never been included in the colonial project and which sets an example on providing humanitarian aid.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę korekcji cięciwowo-łukowej stosowanej w wałeczkach łożysk tocznych wieńcowych. Analizę przeprowadzono wykorzystując metodę elementów skończonych. Przedstawiono model obliczeniowy strefy styku. Wykonano obliczenia rozkładu nacisków wzdłuż tworzącej wałeczka dla różnych wartości parametrów analizowanej korekcji w sprężystym i sprężysto-plastycznym stanie materiałów bieżni i wałeczka. Przedstawiona metoda pozwala na dobór poprawnych parametrów korekcji dla specyfiki łożysk wieńcowych.
In the paper the analysis of cylindrical crowned correction applied for rollers in slewing bearings has been presented. The analysis has been executed with the help a finite element method. Numerical model of contact zone has been presented. Computations of the normal traction across the contact line of the roller with bearing race for different correction parameters at elastic and elastic-plastic state of materials of rollers and bearing rings has been performed. Analysis method presented in paper allows for selection of correct parameters of rollers correction for specific to slewing bearings.

W pracy omówiono sposób wyznaczania charakterystyki zastępczej kulek w łożysku wieńcowym kulkowym jednorzędowym. Wykorzystano w tym celu model strefy styku kulki z bieżnią łożyska oraz segment modelu numerycznego pierścienia łożyska z tzw. superelementem. Przedstawiono założenia budowy modelu i przykładowe wyniki obliczeń numerycznych. Obliczenia wykonano przy założeniu sprężysto-plastycznego stanu materiału z uwzględnieniem tarcia na powierzchniach styku.
Equivalent characteristics of rolling elements enable their modelling with help of truss elements in finite element method based numerical models of slewing bearings [2, 3, 4]. A new method for determination of equivalent characteristics of balls in a single-row ball slewing bearing (Fig. 1) is presented in the paper. At the first stage of calculations the numerical model of the ball contact zone with the bearing raceway was developed (Fig. 2). The model is divided into sections. In the 2 and 3 contact sections There was used a material in elastic-plastic state with bilinear characteristic (Fig. 3) in 2 and 3 contact sections, while in 1 and 4 sections - an elastic one. At the second stage the numerical model of a bearing ring segment (Fig 4.) with a super-element (Fig. 5) was developed. The super-element consists of two pairs of rigid beam elements (2) and an elastic truss element (1) with nonlinear characteristic ??-?. The model was loaded with a force calculated by formula (2) with the material hardness coefficient according to [9]. Numerical calculations were carried out with ADINA software [7]. Table 1 and Fig. 6. present the equivalent characteristic of the ball. The calculations results were approximated by power function (4). The new method for calculation of the bearing ball equivalent characteristic allows for accurate simulation of the bearing contact zone. It can be applied to all types of ball slewing bearings. Accurate estimation of the ball equivalent characteristic will have positive influence on accuracy of calculating the bearing capacity.

Materials presented in this article are the result of two seasons of excavations. At the outset, it is worth noting that the location of the settlement in Deszczno, in the so-called contact zone, makes it interesting from a sources aspect and from a ‘Pomeranian perspective.’ The site 11/13 in Deszczno belongs to the open settlement type. All features recorded there were below ground ones. Amongst them pits of unrecognized function (118) and postholes (70) dominate. Furthermore, 65 oval and circular pits, rectangular or trapezoidal in section were recorded, which hypothetically are the remains of cellars or proper storage pits. Hearths occurred in the settlement in question only rarely. Despite excavating a large area of the settlement its spatial organization is not clear. Unfortunately, the poor state of the features’ preservation does not allow for a more detailed interpretation of their functions. Remains of probable dwellings, which are one of basic elements in distinguishing hypothetical farms’ boundaries, were recorded occasionally. It can be assumed that large, irregular features are only the sunken parts of larger overground buildings. Unfortunately, it was impossible to find any evident remains of this type of construction linked with dwellings. It is also difficult to perceive a division of space into separate zones, such as residential and agricultural or production and agricultural ones. Production and agricultural features were scattered within the entire excavated area. Numerous and chronologically diverse materials discovered on the site indicate the long-term use of the place, at least from the late Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. The settlement in question, related to communities of the Lusatian culture, was present here as early as from period IV of the Bronze Age. This is indicated by infrequent but evident elements of the Uradz style of pottery decoration. Its small number on the site seems to match the general trend in the occurrence of this type of pottery in Greater Poland and the Lubusz Land region. According to M. Kaczmarek, it may indicate that the phenomenon of the Uradz style was of slightly shorter duration than was assumed and covered only a part of period IV of the Bronze Age. Perceptible settlement activity occurred on the site during the next stage dated to the turn of period V of the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. This period also marks the beginning of phenomena associated with the development of settlement of the Górzycka group of the Lusatian culture encompassing areas on both sides of the lower Warta and Noteć River basins as well as the middle and lower Odra River. The increased activity of this group in the aforementioned zone is confirmed by discoveries of numerous sites.
