Opis:
Open, broken, and improperly closed manholes can pose problems for autonomous vehicles and thus need to be included in obstacle avoidance and lane-changing algorithms. In this work, we propose and compare multiple approaches for manhole localization and classification like classical computer vision, convolutional neural networks like YOLOv3 and YOLOv3-Tiny, and vision transformers like YOLOS and ViT. These are analyzed for speed, computational complexity, and accuracy in order to determine the model that can be used with autonomous vehicles. In addition, we propose a size detection pipeline using classical computer vision to determine the size of the hole in an improperly closed manhole with respect to the manhole itself. The evaluation of the data showed that convolutional neural networks are currently better for this task, but vision transformers seem promising.

Opis:
In this paper we consider the problem of modeling curves in R n via interpolation with out apriori specified interpolation knots. We discuss two approaches to estimate missing knots{ti}mi=0 for non-parametric data(i.e.collection of points {qi}mi=0, where qiRn). The first approach (uniforme valuation) is based on blind guess in which knots {ˆti}mi=0 are chosen uniformly. The second approach (cumulative chord parameterization), incorporates the geometry of the distribution of data points.More precisely the difference ˆti+1−ˆti is equal to the Euclidean distance between data points qi+1 and qi. The second method partially compensates for the loss of the information carried by the reduced data. We also present the application of the above schemes for fitting non-parametric data in computer graphics (light-source motion rendering),in computer vision (image segmentation)and in physics (high velocity particles trajectory modeling).Though experiments are conducted for points in R2 and R3 the entire method is equally applicable in Rn.

Image quality assessment is a crucial task in various fields such as digital photography, online content creation, and automated quality control, as it ensures an optimal visual experience and aids in maintaining consistent standards. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for training image quality assessment models on the KonIQ-10ĸ dataset. Our novel approach utilizes a dual-Xception architecture that analyzes both the image content and additional image parameters, outperforming traditional single convolutional models. We introduce cross-sampling methods with random draw sampling of instances from majority classes, effectively enhancing prediction quality in the Mean Opinion Score(MOS) ranges that are underrepresented in the database. This methodology allows us to achieve near state-of-the-art results with limited computing costs and resources. Most importantly, our predictions across the entire spectrum of MOS values maintain consistent quality. Because of using a novel and highly effective method for image sampling, we achieved these results with much lower computational cost, making our approach the most effective way of MOS estimation on the KonIQ-10ĸ database.

Opis:
Target tracking is one of the most common research themes in Computer vision. Ideally, a tracking algorithm will only once receive information about the target to be tracked and will be fast enough to identify the target in the remaining frames, including when its location changes substantially from one frame to another. In addition, if the target disappears from the area of interest, the algorithm should be able to re-identify the desired target. Target tracking was done using a drone with a Jetson TX2 computer onboard. The program runs at the drone level without the need for data processing on another device. Cameras were attached to the drones using a gimbal that maintains a fixed shooting angle. Target tracking was accomplished by placing it in the centre of the image with the drone constantly adjusting to keep the target properly framed. To start tracking, a human operator must fit the target he wishes to follow in a frame. The functionality of this system is excellent for remote monitoring of targets.

The capacity to navigate effectively in complex environments is a crucial prerequisite for mobile robots. In this study, the YOLOv5 model is utilized to identify objects to aid the mobile robot in determining movement conditions. However, the limitation of deep learning models being trained on insufficient data, leading to inaccurate recognition in unforeseen scenarios, is addressed by introducing an innovative computer vision technology that detects lanes in real-time. Combining the deep learning model with computer vision technology, the robot can identify different types of objects, allowing it to estimate distance and adjust speed accordingly. Additionally, the paper investigates the recognition reliability in varying light intensities. When the light illumination increases from 300 lux to 1000 lux, the reliability of the recognition model on different objects also improves, from about 75% to 98%, respectively. The findings of this study offer promising directions for future breakthroughs in mobile robot navigation.

Recently gathered image datasets and new capabilities of high performance computing systems allowed developing new artificial neural network models and training algorithms. Using the new machine learning models, computer vision tasks can be accomplished based on the raw values of image pixels, instead of specific features. The principle of operation of deep artificial neural networks is more and more resembling of what we believe to be happening in the human visual cortex. In this paper we build up an understanding of convolutional neural networks through investigating supervised machine learning methods suchas K-Nearest Neighbors, linear classifiers and fully connected neural networks. We provide examples and accuracy results based on our implementation aimed for the problem of hand pose recognition.

The article presents an original optical system to measure displacements across joints or cracks in building structures. It describes the concept of system operation, algorithms to be followed and results of practical tests that have been performed. The proposed solution is based on digital photos taken with a non-metric digital camera, modified by defining its internal orientation elements and correction of lens distortion during calibration, constituting the measurement instrument registering the pictures of markers. QR (Quick Response) codes are proposed to be the markers. Being digitally processed, a set of registered images allow visualising the measured size of occurred displacements. Owing to this solution, it is possible to obtain data on a mutual position of two or more QR codes in the form of translation elements in 3D space and appropriate three orientation angles. Appointed elements are unequivocal in spatial interpretation and not limited by dimension. As the tests performed by the authors show, the results are more than satisfactory. The proposed measurement technology is an objective system of data acquisition, suitable for automating the whole monitoring process of displacements of building structure elements concerning joints and cracks.

This paper presents a hardware implementation of the Hough technique applied to the tasks of irregular colour and grey-level pattern recognition. The presented method is based on the Hough Transform with a parameter space defined by translation, rotation and scaling operations. An essential element of this method is the generalisation of the Hough Transform for grey level and colour images. The technique simplifies the application of the Hough Transform to irregular patterns recognition tasks. The hardware implementation accelerates the calculations considerably and may be used in computer vision systems, for example, in a robotic system.
